David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 02:29 (twenty years ago)

Thanks for the link. I respect the Two-In-One love - the Cosmic Cube/Project Pegasus arcs wrecked me back when I was a wee little thing.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 06:09 (twenty years ago)

If you haven't read She-Hulk yet, issues #5 and #8 (of the previous series) are online for free IN THEIR ENTIRETY, no downloading required!

http://www.milehighcomics.com/firstlook/marvel/shehulk5/

#8 is on the list at: http://www.marvel.com/dotcomics/index.htm

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Just read number five, and it's great! Brimming with ideas.

chap who would dare to spy on his best mate's ex (chap), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

And he got the "good" artist back for the new series, so I am currently picking it up! I read the first two trades in their entirety more than once, so I figured it was worth actually spending money on. It's nice to have a continuity laden superhero comic out there that doesn't suck!

Chris F. (servoret), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

And (SPOILER) Pug really isn't the smartest man in the world. But I love him.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 27 October 2005 00:37 (twenty years ago)

Slott's She-Hulk is awesome, like the 5th season of Angel with, you know, She-Hulk.

adam (adam), Thursday, 27 October 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)

If you like She-Hulk, you'll love Spider-Man/Human Torch: I'm With Stupid, which is available in a cutesy-wootsy digest-sized trade!
I think that's what I'll send my sister for her b'day. She liked She-Hulk. And it's probably cheap.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 27 October 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

Probably $7 US, which is, what, $3 CA?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 27 October 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

I think you got that reversed, Dave!

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

I thought he was trying to be funny.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 27 October 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

I thought I was trying to be funny.

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Thursday, 27 October 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

The first issue was very fun, and I like the interior artist, but I swear to God, I'm *this* close to tearing the cover off and throwing it away. Are they actively trying to turn away the people who would most enjoy this series with the Greg Horn covers?

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 27 October 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

They're actually trying to get desperate, lonely fanboys to buy it, what with their Vivid Girl as She-Hulk motif thing going on.

Same thing happened with the EMMA FROST book, which was all Maxim-y covers and completely unrelated styles on the insides.

But then maybe the same thing happens with ALL of his covers.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Thursday, 27 October 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

That's the one thing that's irking me about the revival - what, was Mike Mayhew's Shulkie so unseemly? Are there actually going to be fanboys that pick this book up simply because Greg Horn spooged on the cover? I mean, if this gets the book the sales to stick around, then I can live with it (and I'm sure Slott & Bobillo & co. can as well), but, man.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 27 October 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

If Liefeld does covers for The Thing, I'm cracking skulls.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 27 October 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

Wait, I wasn't trying to be funny.

Leeeeeeeeee (Leee), Friday, 28 October 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

four months pass...
spiderman/human torch is the treatiest treat i've treated myself to in a long time. what a great comic! plus ty templeton!!

i think slott is a really good writer, not just a funny one. he really knows what goes into a good story and he has a real intuitive grasp of storytelling mechanics... it provides a really good frame for the funny stuff.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

I'll trade you 1 Spidey/Torch for 2 Alias?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

only if you throw in a powers

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

I'm just glad you finally found something GOOD (I bought Spidey/Torchy in FLOPPY FORMAT and LOVED it). It's like when a friend has dated nothing but awful, abusive people for a long time, and they finally meet the beau/belle that deserves them.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

awww

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

i guess i am a little... fickle!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

You're fickle? Search: my "I HEART GEOFF JOHNS" posts of 2004.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

Being a comic fan means never having to say, "God, I can't believe I ever liked that shit."

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 March 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway, WTF is GJ doing on a SLOTT thread? Now cut that out!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 March 2006 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

And it's all about tolerance levels, too, innnit? Like, in 2004, I hadn't really been reading comics for 12/13 years, so, like just whatever felt good. Wasn't too discriminating.

xpost - sorry

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 24 March 2006 18:01 (nineteen years ago)

Back on topic: It's a testament to SLOTT that even though I kinda HATED the art on the new She-Hulk, I still kinda loved the issue. And WTF, is Starfox related to Timber Wolf of the Legion? Or were they both designed by Dave Cockrum?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 24 March 2006 18:02 (nineteen years ago)

ty templeton should do all his art!

oh, and the good she-hulk guy. the OG dude--bobillo?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 24 March 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

Bobillo. Tho Paul Smith will be sweeeeeeet.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 March 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

who is Paul Smith?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 24 March 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

http://lambiek.net/artists/s/smith_paul.htm

okay, looks GOOD

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 24 March 2006 18:32 (nineteen years ago)

just from the few things I've seen seems to be sort of a softer Giffen/Mignola sorta lines and shadows whizbang style that I like a lot.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 24 March 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Honestly, Leave It To Chance is a fun read!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 March 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

I once met Dan Slott, and told him that I was really enjoying Spider-Man/Human Torch. He told me that he was trying to convince Marvel to let him do a Captain America/Nick Fury mini-series in the same vein.

COME ON, MARVEL!

The Yellow Kid, Friday, 24 March 2006 19:33 (nineteen years ago)

oh shit yeah!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 24 March 2006 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

OH HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELL YEAH

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 24 March 2006 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

Eh, not so interested.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 24 March 2006 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

JUST KIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDING!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 24 March 2006 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

SAVE THE THING!

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 26 March 2006 23:46 (nineteen years ago)

In fairness, starting with a three(!) part story that goes nowhere and does nothing is probably not the best way to draw in the readers. #4 was good though, more like that please.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 27 March 2006 08:24 (nineteen years ago)

I can't imagine that prize going to anyone other than ILC, we've been big repping Dan Slott harder and louder (though to a smaller audience) than anyone. I think we've even probably got the highest saturation of Slott-lovers than any other message board. SO FUCK YOU SLOTT, IF YOU DON'T GIVE US YOUR TOYS.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 27 March 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I was psyched for this series but dropped it after the third issue. Three issues of Arcade? Seriously?

The Yellow Kid, Monday, 27 March 2006 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

I lasted one issue. Sorry Dan.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 27 March 2006 19:27 (nineteen years ago)

omg LAMERZ

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 27 March 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

FINE YOU WIN
I WILL NOW GO OUT AND BUY ALL THINGS

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 30 March 2006 17:43 (nineteen years ago)

Plz to note (according to Jaundiced Joey Q) that Andrea DiVito is off The Thing w/ the latest issue (to go draw Giffen-abetted space boggins), & shall be replaced by Kieron Dwyer.

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 2 April 2006 12:56 (nineteen years ago)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 3 April 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
OK, well, I just finished the first She-Hulk trade, and it was so good. Smart and fun. It's been so long since I read an actual superhero comic that was both (or even either) of those things.

James Morrison (JRSM), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 05:38 (nineteen years ago)

yeah its ok. weirdly enough it took me a long time to read. just about to start trade 2 courtesy kit b. i did kinda laugh at the "you need airbags in this bed" (her tits, in repose, larger then her head ) joke. if it was a joke.

molly (bulbs), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 05:56 (nineteen years ago)

eleven months pass...

UPDATE:

According to That News Site, Slott is:

- leaving She-Hulk in 3 months (w/ Ty Templeton co-writing his last 3 issues)
- co-writing a GLX / Deadpool Fun Spectacular w/ Fabian Nicienza (sp)
- starting a fantastically super AMAZING I HOPE new project ASAP

I have to say I'm not feeling the Slott Machine so much of late - possibly due to his involvement with / subsumption by Civil War nonsense.

I miss Juan Bobillo. & s1ocki. & Awesome Andy.

David R., Friday, 25 May 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, the fact that apparently I have to care about what's happening in Hulk has taken some of the shine off She-Hulk for me.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 25 May 2007 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

I gotta say, that little column in the latest She-Hulk trade about why she's pro-registration (and why she was anti mutant registration act) makes a pretty convincing case! Plus all the hijinks involved in actually translating that action to day-to-day superhero activity were hilarious. So A++ for Slott being able to make something fun and interesting out of such a tired concept (nb no I haven't read any other Civil War stuff, I'm a TPBer.)

Daniel_Rf, Saturday, 26 May 2007 02:18 (eighteen years ago)

She-Hulk is being she-bunked by x-over madness, though, um, WWHulk might be AWESOME. Especially if--SPOILERALERT--Hulk becomes the new Captain America as rumoured in the latest Warlock Mag.

Dr. Superman, Saturday, 26 May 2007 06:43 (eighteen years ago)

has anyone read the avengers series he's writing? i looked at it at the shop the other day. i ultimately decided against it, because of she-hulk's diminishing returns. i find his run on The Thing to be my favorite. and she-hulk's first trade (but patchy thereafter.)

ian, Sunday, 27 May 2007 04:33 (eighteen years ago)

I find it (Slott's Avengers) not bad, but bear in mind that
1) I barely read any Marvel besides She-Hulk and X-Factor, so have little knowledge of the established characters, and whether or not their normally this dickish
2) I know next to nothing about the whole Civil War bollocks
3) if I never read another issue, it wouldn't cause me that much sadness, really

James Morrison, Sunday, 27 May 2007 05:12 (eighteen years ago)

Fuck! "they're" normally this dickish!

James Morrison, Monday, 28 May 2007 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

I've read the She Hulk TPBs, and I agree with ian - the first one's great. The second & third are patchy and the fourth is downright bad for much of the time.

treefell, Monday, 28 May 2007 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

four years pass...

"Anti-Venom"? The ghost of Jean DeWolff? Dammit Slott, I used to think you were great!
