i'd be most interested in checking out more addams, gorey's most popular by far i guess (if you don't factor in tv/movie tiein's for addams) but least interesting to me, but in my heart of hearts it's gahan wilson by a mile. one thing i do like about addams is that it reminds me that at one point in time the nyer, and not merely the nyer but william shawn's nyer the land of 'tiny mummies' et. al, was one of the 2 or 3 most widely read and profitable magazines in america, to the extent that a sporadically running one panel comic in it could yield a big hit sitcom. the biggest play i can think of the nyer (comix or anything really) getting in recent tv is the whole cat-dog 'i've enjoyed reading your email' and resulting elaine-ziggy fiasco on seinfeld.

My 'real' answer here is whichever of the three I'm reading at the moment is my favorite. I was looking over "Amphigorey Also" last night right before posting this, so I guess it's him for now. I especially like the vaguely menacing melodramas he does where every panel has a different character, none of whom ever recur, each doing some mysteriously foreboding thing. Nothing really terrible happens to any of them, (unlike, say, the Gashleycrumb Tinies) but there's a tremendous pall hanging over the whole enterprise, like you could glimpse a horrible murder out of the corner of your eye that disappears when you try to look right at it.

oooh - forgot Tony Millionaire.

He seems to have gotten Gorey's crosshatching, too.

Are these all the strips where Mickey's trying to kill himself?

Yeah, but just the one with my favourite punch line. I'm not sure what went wrong trying to post the image.
