My fiancee really likes that book, I think.

YO MADDY! Emerge from the nethersmoke of Lurkerdom and hold court on this Alaskan vampire stuff!

Oh, fine then.

30 Days of Night chronicles a sort of vampire convention, thrown by hungry ghouls in a remote Alaskan town where the sun won't return for a month. Much carnage ensues. It's a good setup made absolutely extraordinary through Ben Templesmith's terrifying painted artwork.

Niles also wrote an interesting zombie miniseries called Remains, drawn by Kieron Dwyer, in which barely-intelligent Las Veagas zombies slowly relearn the use of tools and speech as well as revert to monarchy.

one year passes...
First, has anyone seen "Frostbite", the Swedish film that takes on the same "30 days 'til dawn" premise? Sounds fun.

And second, the three 30DoN books are worth a buy: 30 Days of Night, Dark Days, Return to Barrow. Templesmith's art leaps out, the characters are well drawn, plots are interesting with some nice surprises in the last book.
