JIM BALENT: His Work And Life

Let's get the work out of the way first -

...voluptuous Witch... 3 Little Kittens... Vampfire... half demon and half vampire... School Bites... cross between an Anne Rice novel and Harry Potter... sexuality and nudity... strong female characters... not ashamed to be who they are.

Some people thought his Catwoman was "too sexy". Jim wants to know, what's wrong with being sexy?

Now on to THE LIFE:

On October 16th, Holly and I had a secret Wiccan Star Wars wedding at the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando. Holly dressed in her Slave Leia bikini and I wore the Vader armor. 12 Stormtroopers, volunteers from the 501st, were our guests. Boba Fett gave Holly away and there was a working R2D2 that was the ring bearer.

Jim Balent, people.

> Holly dressed in her Slave Leia bikini and I wore the Vader armor.

For the honeymoon, we switched costumes.

How could she be 100% sure who she was marrying. IU want to see the whites of their eyes.

He draws a good Hulk. Or at least the tits aren't out of proportion.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 1 December 2005 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

I want to mock him, but it's just so obvious that this guy is having a pretty happy life, even if it's very cringe-inducing.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

I'm wondering if they ever gave much thought to the creepy incestuous implications of Darth Vader marrying Princess Leia.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

Do you know what sucks about being Jim Balent, Matthew?

Flyboy (Flyboy), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

NOT ONE DAMN THING.

Flyboy (Flyboy), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

Is that fair?

What the hell am I doing all wrong? Perhaps I should write Jim Balent for advice.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

Perhaps we all should.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I guess the obvious answer is that Jim Balent is utterly unafraid of appearing ridiculous, and I'm an uptight fuddy duddy. It's a joycore vs. borecore thing, and I'm falling on the borecore side.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

Do you own a sword with a pentagram on the hilt?

Flyboy (Flyboy), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

Not yet.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

In Balent: The Movie, he will be played by the guy who was Tim in The L Word.

Flyboy (Flyboy), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

Where's the drama in a movie about Balant?

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

Or Balent, rather.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

It's less of a drama, and more a source of inspiration.

Oh wait - the drama comes from when Jim gets harassed by a bunch of fun-haters who think he made Catwoman too sexy!

Flyboy (Flyboy), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

I suppose there will some adversity in trying to sell enough bottles of that Jim Balent fragrance to make a profit.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

He's like Frank Miller, Matthew, and thus also like Larry Flynt. Caught between the Christian right and the PC liberals!

Flyboy (Flyboy), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

When did he draw Green Lantern?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha ha, I think my respect for him is growing.

NRAMA: Are you doing as well financially as an independent publisher as you were on Catwoman?

JB: I am always amazed that people would ask me that question. I find it puzzling and somewhat rude.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

I like the first "From the Darkness" series he did. Not bad as far as vampire tittay comics go.

one thing that artist websites don't have enough:

circa '96 gif-animations

kingfish hobo juckie (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 2 December 2005 04:02 (nineteen years ago)

I like the first "From the Darkness" series he did.

I bought that back when I was luving his work on Catwoman, & he was Thee Hott Artist (because of, y'know, boobies) (which is why I liked Balent's artwork, duh).

We should all be so lucky to carve out a lucrative niche doing what we enjoy most. Lucky Vader fucker.
