OCT050223 BATGIRL KICKING ASSASSINS TP $14.99

Groan.

OCT050258 JLA CLASSIFIED COLD STEEL #1 (OF 2) $5.99

Who's this by?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

It's Bat-Week in the House of L! (especially since I've still got last week's issue of Batman sitting in my file along with JLA: Class)

BATMAN AND THE MONSTER MEN #2 (OF 6) - I love Wagner's Prof. Strange
DETECTIVE COMICS #814 - City of Crime's pulse-pounding conclusion!
GOTHAM CENTRAL #38 - The COUNTDOWN begins!
SHOWCASE PRESENTS JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA VOL 1 TP - Everybody Loves Aqauman, starring Ray Romano as Aquaman, Doris Roberts as Superman, Patricia Heaton as Batman, Brad Garrett as Green Lantern and Peter Boyle as the Martian Manhunter!
MARVEL ZOMBIES #1 (OF 5) - This is gonna be good, right?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

Whoops, almost forgot:

GNOMES FAIRIES & SEX KITTENS (A)

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

Does the A stand for Asinine?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

ASSinine

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

The first few pages of Marvel Zombies show Magneto @ Forbidden Planet, offing chubby pre-pube fanboys clamoring for the Gold Variant of Spider-Man #1.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

(you do know that asinine REALLY ACTUALLY HONESTLY is a derivation of ass, right?)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

(figured as much)

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

(though more in the sense of asinine:donkey::ovine:sheep)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

(baaaaaaa)

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

DANGER GIRL BACK IN BLACK #2 - OK, I'm a sucker for buying cheesecake but after being convinced by the original trade I've kept up with the various minis and NONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN BAD. On the evidence of #1 this is neither the best nor the worst.
JLA CLASSIFIED COLD STEEL #1 - I'm not sure what this is, so I might not buy it.
JONAH HEX #2 - KILL THAM THUR PUPPIES MISTER! PUT THE BOY OUT OF HIS MIS'RY!
SEVEN SOLDIERS MISTER MIRACLE #2 - Gorgeous art, but needs to work to change current status from WORST SS TITLE quickly.
SHOWCASE PRESENTS JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA VOL 1 TP - Superman the lion jumps through a ring of fire to amuse Flash. Unfortunately, the Martian Manhunter gets so frightened he backs into the Watchtower console and fills Wonder Woman's quarters with lead WITH HER IN IT! OH NOES!
SWAMP THING #22 - My name is aldo and I am a swampyholic. WHY AM I BUYING THIS, MAKE IT STOP MUMMY!
Y THE LAST MAN #40 - I think there could well be more Yorick winky action this month, mark my words.
FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #3 - ONE EYED HERO SHOOTS STICKY FLUID ALL OVER BAD GUYS! WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN? (Or does thinking of children make it worse?)
MARVEL ZOMBIES #1 - I enjoyed them in UFF, let's hope the mini justifies using them again.
POWERS #15 - I remember when I used to really love Powers. It seems so long ago now.
PUNISHER #28 - It's Eastern Europeans in this arc. Sometimes I think the nationality of the baddies is all that changes in this book.
SPIDER-MAN BLACK CAT EVIL THAT MEN DO #4 - 4? 4 YEARS LATE, MORE LIKE. But thankfully with Terry Dodson b00b4g3 to make up for it. Did I mention I like cheesecake?
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #87 - more teen angst as the TV says where Peter goes to school, where he finds The Vulture hiding in his locker and The Rhino signed up for football.
ULTIMATES 2 #9 - Maybe we'll find the REAL TRAITOR this month? (my predictions are not guaranteed, your mortgage may be at risk if you choose to believe me)

GLX-mas and X-Factor 1 were originally scheduled to ship this week too, and I still have to pick up last week's haul. LIFE IS GOOD.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

Who is Chris Moeller, & why does he get to do fully painted JLA minis?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

His other one was dreadfully dull.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

NIGHT MARY #4 (OF 5)

And, maybe KEVIN SMITH'S SPIDER-MAN / BLACK CAT: I'M TO BLAME FOR MILLAR'S 12-PART SPIDEY ARC #4.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 21:35 (nineteen years ago)

Mister Miracle #2: The worst 7S debut issue 'last time round, but... monster cars! Remaining suspicious but hope it'll imporove.
Gotham Central #38: I don't like this at all without Brubaker, but I'll buy it anyway because I'm stupid and bored.
Ultimates 2 #9 Nice! I'd almost forgotten about this existed. Presumably we'll get the real traitor this time, instead of the red herring. Or maybe we'll just another red herring. Or maybe it'll be Loki, in which case Mark Millar goes back to sucking again.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

GOTHAM CENTRAL #38 Despite the fact that it's just going to be wrapping up the Spectre subplot.
SEVEN SOLDIERS MISTER MIRACLE #2 (OF 4) Yay Seven Soldiers.
SHOWCASE PRESENTS JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA VOL 1 TP Yay old superhero team stuff!
AGE OF BRONZE #22 This is seriously one of the best comics being published right now. Why are you not reading it?
ULTIMATES 2 #9
LOVE & ROCKETS VOL 2 #15

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 6 December 2005 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not reading Age of Bronze. What is it?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 00:30 (nineteen years ago)

Oh fudge - forgot about Age of Bronze!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 04:41 (nineteen years ago)

Age of Bronze is about the Trojan War. More specifically, it's a grand master narrative combining or at least alluding to EVERY story about the Trojan War--from the Iliad to "Troilus & Cressida" to Troy etc.--and set during the Bronze Age, with historically accurate clothing, weaponry, etc. And it's incredibly affecting and BEAUTIFULLY drawn. Two collections so far.

Douglas (Douglas), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

I kinda think that the Spectre stuff in Gotham Central is going to be very background until the last issue. I think we're going to see Jim Corrigan, fils perpetuate an attack on Crispus Allen, maiming him in a way that by the end of the series we'll think he's dead, but then when Chuck Dixon takes his rightful place as the ONLY BATMAN WRITER, Allen'll re-emerge as Batman's new worst enemy, sort of broken-mirror image of the Dark Knight, only with lots of guns and wild tattoos. Meanwhile Montoya will further descend into her holy lesbo rage, dumping a mortally-wounded Corrigan in Gotham Harbor, and maybe we'll see a faint green glow surround his corpse-to-be in the last panel, but the Spectre thread will then be picked up over in Day of Vengeance Special #1, meanwhile Montoya's guilt over having "crossed the line" will further spiral her down, and she'll kill Commissioner Akins, and Jim Gordon will have to find the last Lazarus Pit of Ra's Al Ghul (which Batman had actuallyl been saving for himself), and rejuvenate himself so that he can return in the Chuck Dixon-penned BLOCKBUSTER miniseries Waiting for Gordon, where Gordon will discover latent nanobot tech in his renal system that will make him THE MOST POWERFUL POLICE COMMISSIONER THIS SIDE OF THANAGAR!!!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

I am a big Age of Bronze fan.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

You have convinced me. I'll get the first two trades after Christmas.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

I just read Ultimates 2 #9 on the way to work - pretty great! I called the traitor early on, but I didn't quite anticipate where this story was going. Can't wait for the next issue.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

i've never heard of this age of bronze!! it looks right up my alley though. exciting!

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:52 (nineteen years ago)

Age of Bronze is one of the best books out there right now. There was a slowdown between the last arc and this one, but Eric seems like he's working pretty steadily to keep the books coming. As much as I like the book, I'm torn on whether or not to buy the monthlies, because this one really works better in the larger collections.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

Gotham Central: HOLY SHIT!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:24 (nineteen years ago)

Marvel Zombies #1: If this was a one-shot, it would be perfect. Damn, I loves me some Sean Phillips art of Captain American holding his own brains.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:28 (nineteen years ago)

Cuss you Huk! And whoever bumped the Y thread! I'm trying to wait for Saturday before heading to my shop on account I don't like the guy who works weekdays there!

Keep the juices flowing by jangling around gentleee as you move (Leee), Thursday, 8 December 2005 02:08 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, Marvel Zombies was fun in all the ways Walking Dead has not been. Maddie was legitimately disturbed by, uh, a certain someone being eaten!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 8 December 2005 04:02 (nineteen years ago)

Detective Comics: Oh, I'm sad this is over. Wish the art had been just a little better, but it wasn't that bad, and it had some personality. And hell, the backgrounds were always fan-frigging-tastic, so, like, whatevs. The ending's a little too, um, mature detective story a la Mystic River x Scooby Doo, but that's okay, because it was a great ride. Reminded me a lot of the old (not the new) Englehart/Rogers Batman stuff, with the grand vision of Gotham it's rotten core and worse politics and such (hey, has Rupert Thorne ever figured into the post-Miller Bat-Mythos?). I could read a lot more Lapham Batman.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

I got Optic Nerve #11 as well. I like it, even though I don't like emo assholes. Go figure.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 8 December 2005 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

This month's Punisher is basically an entire issue devoted to setting up a horribly gory last panel.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Saturday, 10 December 2005 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

You say that like it's a bad thing.
