"To be honest I have this scary suspicion that most of ILX's brainpower is currently wasting itself on I Love Comics." - nabisco

BRING IT ON!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 12 December 2005 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

FYI: I am not in any way trying to start a FITE; I am just bored out of my fucknig pantaloons & wanted to start a new thread.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 12 December 2005 20:45 (nineteen years ago)

I think you mean the kind of compliment that's spelled with I, thus disproving Nabisco's statement. Or not. Or MORE BLACK LOIS FOR EVERYONE!!!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 12 December 2005 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

What, should we be spending more of our time writing about Pazz & Jop and blowjobs? I'm not sure why comics would necessarily be a lesser area of interest compared to the lion's share of ILE and ILM threads.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 12 December 2005 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

NO FITING!

There's a joke to be made about current spandex writers writing about blowjobs, but I'm not the one to make it.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 12 December 2005 21:22 (nineteen years ago)

At one of my gigs the other night, Maddie was lamenting the fact music geekery is more socially acceptable than comic book geekery, though it is in fact just as geeky.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 12 December 2005 21:35 (nineteen years ago)

There are hierachies, you know? Comic book geekery is more socially acceptable than Warcraft geekery of what have you, but less than video game geekery. Music geekery is one of the rare forms of geekery that can make you more attractive to a lot of people, though it hasn't really worked for me, I'm sad to say.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 12 December 2005 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

It's like the clown strata in "Shakes the Clown". "MIMES!"

scamperingalpaca (Chris Hill), Monday, 12 December 2005 22:13 (nineteen years ago)

I think music geekery is only transciently cool, as the cool people decided to take part in music sometime in the mid-late 90s. things will change...

kingfish trampycakes (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 12 December 2005 23:37 (nineteen years ago)

i think in athens you're more likely to score quim being spotted reading optic nerve or eightball or an old issue of hate, etc. (THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME) than bloaning on about bright eyes or whatever. BUT if you are a musician yes it probably scores more choice, but i think it's more the 'fame' (HA) thing than culture stratum/strategem.

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 12 December 2005 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

Charismatic performer gets more womens than sedentary behind-the-scenes creator. Who'd a thunk?

M. V. (M.V.), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 00:24 (nineteen years ago)

(THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME)

story time! blount, tell us the story!

kingfish trampycakes (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 00:51 (nineteen years ago)

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 00:59 (nineteen years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 07:41 (nineteen years ago)

I wanted to punch every smug whiny fuck in the last Optic Nerve until they died. It was good, tho.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

Have the full issues been collected yet? I only have the minicomic TPB...

kingfish trampycakes (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

Doesn't that Summer Blonde collection have issues #5-8?

Chris F. (servoret), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, and there's another collection of #1-4, but I haven't seen it.

When I was in Minneapolis over the weekend I picked up #9 (having already read #10) and a cheap copy of the minicomics. For some reason I find the ON letter columns hilarious.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

this thread has blown my mind. wow, what incredible brainpower.

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

_Sleepwalk and other Stories_ List of his books here. I *thought* there'd been a long gap before # 10, but didn't realise # 9 came out Jan '04. Ouch.

scamperingalpaca (Chris Hill), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

keep dreaming

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

Yes things will NOT change for we music nerds will be cool FOREVER.

Obsessing over the unobtainable and nonexistent. (Leee), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

We comic nerds on the other hand...

Obsessing over the unobtainable and nonexistent. (Leee), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

I love the idea of cool being debated here.

Lars and Jagger (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

We're probably the best ones to debate Cool, having no personal stake in it.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

I think there are more comic geek girls than music geek girls here in Finland, percentually speaking that is. All my comic geek friends are girls.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, maybe that's not an indicator of anything, since almost all my friends are girls anyway. But if you go to a Finnish comic convention, about 30-40% of the people there are girls.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

since almost all my friends are girls anyway

I was going to say...

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

In what star system is this "Finland"?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

scandinavia's nothing but toothy white chix daver, you want no part of that. i like the latest optic nerve arc a good bit - the protagonist is a douchebag but there's more going on, it's alot more than just standard emo comic, and it's making me rethink some of his earlier stuff. i like that he's toned down the narration (completely in latest i believe), someone in the hilarious on letters section pointed out that he's very very good at getting specific facial expressions - this is true, there's always more humor in his comix than he gets credit for, i really liked that he ended with the big CLIFFHANGER (omg what could it be???)(is his ex dating a whiteboy?), too bad the next issue probably ain't hitting til 2008.

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 13 December 2005 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

I was wasting my brainpower on LiveJournal actually!

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

scandinavia's nothing but toothy white chix daver, you want no part of that.

I thought you knew me, blount!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

One of my mates was once attempting to smooth-talk a girl and she asked him why she should go home with him, to which he replied "Because I'm the coolest guy in the place, and you know it."

He would never have said that if he liked comics.

David N (David N.), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

six months pass...
