THE FINGER: or, how I stopped worrying and learned to love Green Arrow

Possibly the first incidence of Green Arrow brandishing THE FINGER! At the very least, the first example of Green Arrow wagging THE FINGER! at Green Lantern (or is it?)

Eventually, the Emerald Archers FINGER! developed other skills, such as the skill to differentiate between sugar and SKEZAG!

If you're scanning Showcase Presnits you must scan the 'grooming' story, in which Oliver Queen grooms a new child and Speedy gets really jealous.

Is anyone watching this "The Justice League forms!" episode of Smallville tonight? I've been sort of half-eyeing the series for the past couple seasons. Not crazy about a few elements, digging others. Smallville Green Arrow is really bland.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 18 January 2007 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

I am. Just recapped Season 5 on DVD, and share your ambivalent attitude. It's almost better watching it on DVD, because my expectations are lowered, and I don't wait a week hoping for some real evolution in the series. Watching/skimming a season, it's easier to pick up the good bits in the character arcs (although Lana has more like a character metronome, re: Clark).

lumberingwoodsman (Chris Hill), Thursday, 18 January 2007 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, it's weird -- I'm tired of Lana's back-and-forthing, not really sold on Lana/Lex or Lois/Ollie, and weirded out by the fact that the writing and chemistry of the show is such that I think Clark and Chloe make the best couple; my experience of the show wars against my knowledge of the mythos. I assume that's why they made Lois Chloe's cousin, so we can be like "oh, I get it, the spark between Clark and Chloe is just because she has so much in common with his fated One True Love." But it took me a season to warm up to Lois (I really like her now).

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 18 January 2007 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't watched the show much, but I read a blog or something that posited that Chloe might be Lois or become Lois. I also watched the first five minutes of the first episode of the Legion of Cartoon Superheroes, and I liked it.

Anyway, the thing I like best about Green Arrow is the way he always looks surprised when he gets laid out, even though it happens (or used to happen, before Winnick decided GA needed to have fighting skills) all the time.

So I take it that Bruce Timm has got naught to do with this 'toon?

c('°c) (Leee), Thursday, 18 January 2007 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

Agreed on Chloe / Clark being the best couple. Chloe's not only kept his secret, but encouraged Clark's path to Supermanhood.

I like Lois, too, the more so as they move her from being a sassy, kung-fu Army brat and into more of a crusading newshound.

And another thumbs-up on the LoSH cartoon. Fun to see the Fatal Five in action.

If only Batman was so eloquent these days:

"And just because the kennel's got problems with its locks I'm supposed to let the Mad Dogs run the streets?"

Actually there is a point here about Arkham Asylum that Batman - sorry I mean Bat NAZI - should have really dealt with a LONG time ago.

And then they'd have to make new villains, right?

Imagine the sound of a thousand fans crying out in terror...and then suddenly silenced.

And fuck, could Mike Grell write comic books. Re-reading Grell's GA and have read the first four collections of O'Neill's Question run of same era. WTF happened to non-over-written DC comic books?
