Whats So Civil About War Anyway?

Why no thread yet about this latest OMG EVENT from the House of Ideas? CAN IT BE that we have 'event fatigue'?!!??

Paul O'Brien had some apposite things to say in this week's X-Axis about how Marvel basically love the idea of doing an 'event' and having a 'direction' and then are completely dreadful at even the most basic co-ordination when actually publishing the books. In a sense I really don't mind this as continuity doesn't bother me hugely, but I thought he was OTM.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

And it would be nice, speaking as someone that's curious about the MU as a whole, to ease off the OMG EVENT pedal for more than 2 weeks. DECIMATION, ANNIHILATION, CIVIL WAR - whatever. I'm waiting for MARVEL SIESTA.

As long as none of this interferes with Captain America, She-Hulk, and Marvel Zombies (and maybe Thing), WHO CARES?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

Civil War is going to interfere with Cap like a deranged paeaedophile!

Vic Fluro (Vic Fluro), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

To discourage googlism.

Hey! Making superheroes register w/ the government! That's never been done before ever at all!

As said elsewhere: "It turns out that in the Marvel Universe, the A does stand for France"..

My Conspiracy Theory - may be quite a common speculation, I don't know.

Groke, Thursday, 22 February 2007 11:48 (eighteen years ago)

It does involve Marvel knowing how many hands it has, let alone what the left and right ones are doing.

markco, Thursday, 22 February 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

OK that REALLY was an x-post from me, folks, seriously...

David R., Thursday, 22 February 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

You're probably right about Marvel, but I think DC's multiverse is more a combination of Geoff Johns wanting to bring back his childhood and Grant's mad schemes to create a sentient universe rather than the MMORPG factor (the DC universe has always felt much more crowded with superheroes, whereas Marvel feels a bit like it's about New York most of the time).

carson dial, Thursday, 22 February 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, the 52 servers thing is more than a bit of a reach, but I think the whole weekly anchor to an event-driven continuity will be - or could be - a pivot to a game continuity too.

(Sad old RPG heads may remember the game TORG which was intended to work this way (and now I think of it included a quite good conception of a multiverse, too))

David R., Friday, 23 February 2007 01:31 (eighteen years ago)

Just to be clear here, um, Daredevil in this whole mess is still Iron Fist, right? And then Iron Fist become Captain America in Omega Flight? And then Iron Fist becomes She-Hulk, and eventually Punisher: War Journal? I just want to know if the only Marvel mags I read have all been Iron Fist all along.

ALSO, HOLY CRAP, the ISB 30-second Infinite Crisis CALLED 52! Or at least Ion.

Dr. Superman, Friday, 23 February 2007 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

I hate Iron Man!

I just read the wikipedia entry. I might get the main TPBs when they come out.
