ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN THE BOY WONDER #3 - Guest-starring Johnny Knoxville!
BATMAN #648 - Written by Johnny Knoxville!
JLA CLASSIFIED #15 - Black Lightning strikes twice...but does the Justice League have flood insurance?
SOLO #8 - Maybe I won't actually get this. I seem to much prefer the odd-numbered issues (#3: Pope; #5: Cooke; #7: Allred). I don't even know who's doing this one. Probably Marjorie Wolfman.
SUPERMAN BATMAN #23 - Guest-starring Batman Beyond!
DAREDEVIL #80 - Is this the end of an era? Will Bendis kill Foggy? Or will Foggy kill Bendis in a move that will forever change Grant Morrison's hairdo?
SHE-HULK 2 #3 - I'm still buying this, I'm just not reading it for some reason.
THING #2 - Make or break time! I liked the first half of the last issue a lot.

Written by Neil Gaiman, Steven T. Seagle and Teddy Kristiansen; Art and cover by Teddy Kristiansen

Eisner Award-winning artist Teddy Kristiansen takes over SOLO in an issue featuring a Deadman story written by New York Times best-selling author Neil Gaiman (THE SANDMAN)! Kristiansen, the award-winning co-creator behind the critically-acclaimed DC/Vertigo graphic novel IT'S A BIRD… takes the spotlight for the latest installment in the series featuring the work of some of the comic industry's best artists.

He's joined by comics visionary Neil Gaiman for a story focusing on Deadman that no Gaiman fan will want to miss! Kristiansen takes the writing reins for a handful of short stories, and is also reunited with IT'S A BIRD… writer Steven T. Seagle. Kristiansen's inimitable art style is showcased as he gives each story its own mood and feel through his mastery of a variety of media.

So, it's not really solo at all then, is it?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I guess some of it is, if I bother to read.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

SOLO refers simply to the artist, though the best stuff seems to come from the fellows (where da ladies at?) who choose their own adventures.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Clearly I have only read the Mike Allred and Darwyn Cooke ones. I've been meaning to start a Solo S/D thread anyway.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 20:14 (twenty years ago)

SOLO - S/D:

Seek, not Destroy
Darwyn Cooke (though I wish they'd included his FCBD strip)
Paul Pope (even though he basically retells OMAC #1 in one of his stories, it's still purty)
Jordi Bernet (Batman by Bernet is mouthwatering, and you get a western, too!)
Mike Allred (his Batman story was pretty unsubtle, but pretty nonetheless)

Disinterested, but not destroyed
Richard Corben (mostly good, but nothing stood out)
Howard Chaykin (tasty, but not much to hold you for a long time)

D for Unread
Tim Sale (would probably be good, but haven't seen it around)

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

Just NEW AVENGERS and DAREDEVIL for me.

Douglas (Douglas), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Why is everything coming out when I'm low on money?

X-Factor (I really liked the first issue of this, glad to see #2 out so soon!)
X-Men
Daredevil
All Star Batman and Robin (in the hopes of more over the top lunacy)

Maybe She-Hulk and Thing in a week or two. I enjoyed the first issues of both, but I'm not way into either. I might just CBR it from here on out.

I BOUGHT!

Big In Japan #3
Bulleteer #2
Solo #8
Acme Novelty Library #16

[thinks: is Acme the longest-running series I'm currently buying? could be!]

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 29 December 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

BIG IN JAPAN IS AWESOME!

READ THAT TRADE TOO! GOD DAMN IT!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 29 December 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)

(Don't mind me.)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 29 December 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

I know this is a week late, but since Kit Brash brings it up - what the fuck happened with Bulleteer #2? I really liked the first issue, and now the entire thing has gone off the rails, presumably due to the Seven Soldiers macro story. I feel very cheated - such a bait and switch!

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 29 December 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

I actually wasn't very whelmed by the first issue, so to see all the over-story bursting into this one was a plus for me.

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 30 December 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

All Star Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder #3: This may be the first time I've ever feel the need to take a hot, hot shower after reading a comic book.
Batman #648: ALL THEY DO IS WATCH US KILL!!! Heavens! What is the point of hiring Mahnke/Nguyen to draw people with no lips?
Daredevil #80: Ugliest Daredevil cover I've seen in a long time. Foggy breathes yet. It's like Bendis is trying to make us happy that he's leaving.
JLA: Classified #15: Goofy Ellis technobabble meets Morrison-style "We're the Justice League, FOOL!"
She-Hulk #3: Still haven't read #1 yet. SHUT UP.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 30 December 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

and I forgot to buy Thing #2. Which, y'know, I'm not ALL THAT torn up over.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 30 December 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

Are people really not enjoying The Murdock Papers? I think it's been great, and a very good conclusion to Bendis' longterm storyline.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 30 December 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm really enjoying The Murdock Papers a lot, but I'm wondering: 1) What's up with Natasha wearing the DD outfit under her own on the cover of #80? 2) Wasn't Echo supposed to show up in this storyline, or to have shown up a while ago?

Douglas (Douglas), Friday, 30 December 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

Who is Echo?

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 30 December 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait, that's from the thing Mack did between the first and second half of the run, right?

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 30 December 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

Also the newest member of the Avengers!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 30 December 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

I'll let Bendis eat his own foot:

Echo first appeared in the pages of "Daredevil," in a story that wowed Bendis. "This was before I was on 'Daredevil.' David Mack is one of my oldest and best friends and when him and Joe [Joe Quesada] created Echo, I was like, 'Oh it's a female Taskmaster with this great Indian mythological origin," Bendis stated. "I'm like, 'God damn that's a great character.' It's so rare that you see that and go, 'Wow that's really new.'"

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 30 December 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

Bendis' Daredevil has probably been the mainstream comic I've enjoyed most consistently over the last few years, and this storyline has been no exception.
My only quibble is how amazingly crap Maleev makes Iron Fist look.

All Star Batman & Robin : what the hell is Black Canary doing in this issue? Does anybody else get the feeling that from issue to issue Miller realises that he is already bored with the storyline and decides to start again? That apart, its rubbish.
"Chunks". "Chunks'? You what?

David N (David N.), Saturday, 31 December 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

I think he's trying to come up with something ridiculously quotable in each issue as a way of shamelessly pandering to internet people like us. The LOVE CHUNKS thing is definitely this issue's "BRUTALLY. BRUTALLY. It was BRUTAL." Either that, or he's trying to write lyrics for the next Black Eyed Peas album.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Saturday, 31 December 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

Why was the comic shop that I wandered into selling All-Star Batman and Robin #3 for $10 already? Or was this some kind of alternate cover/ parallel universe kinda thing?

ng-unit, Saturday, 31 December 2005 04:45 (twenty years ago)

Because that comic shop is pure evil. EVIL.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Saturday, 31 December 2005 04:48 (twenty years ago)

Maybe they're losing money because people are buying books irregularly, using credit cards and waiting for trades.

ng-unit, Saturday, 31 December 2005 05:07 (twenty years ago)

On second thought, I'm with you Matt.

So did Berlin #12 actually come out this week?

ng-unit, Saturday, 31 December 2005 05:08 (twenty years ago)

Well, there's that boring old Jim Lee cover, and then there's the hot-to-trot Frank Miller variant featuring Black Canary as a Sin City extra. That there latter one's probably going for the ten spot, I reckon.

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 31 December 2005 06:49 (twenty years ago)

I TOTALLY do not believe that Bendis said "Oh it's like a Female taskmaster with this great Indian mythological origin." I think Bendis actually said "Dude, you know how Daredevil is blind!! Well, imagine him fighting a chick - WHO IS DEAF!"

And if he didn't say that my respect for the man has dwindled.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 31 December 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

Midtown Comics had the variant going for $10 or so, and the regular was cover price.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Saturday, 31 December 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE #1

So cute!
