A couple of incidences:

My local comic shop has a website that I sometimes (rarely) do reviews for and every year they have a get-together of contributors and the like over the holidays. I kept making references to ILC memes and talking about like Thrill Power and the Super Sons, and then these two dudes started doing (what I assume was) line-for-line dialogue/thought bubbles from ASB&RTBW, and I was like, OMG I'm surrounded by NERDS!!!

Then, just now I posted "Who cares? It's a girl!" on the Jeff Geohns board.

At a convention once there was a friend of an editor who tagged along when the 2000AD lot went for a meal and kept screaming "Do you think the A stands for FRANCE??" at me. Later many privately admitted they thought he was a cock.

I stopped in at a comic book shop once on new comics day years ago and encountered what was apparently a regular discussion group devoted to the events of Aquaman's life as portrayed in his monthly comic. It was almost literally an "Aquaman, you cannot marry a woman who does not possess gills" moment.

I remember at least 15 years ago being at a comic convention here in London.
Friend1: There are a lot more cool people at this than there ever used to be.

That said, the quoting thing isn't symptomatic of comics. You'll find it much more with film and tv geeks - "I shall ingratiate myself with a flawless rendition of the Spanish Inquisition sketch, doing all the voices exactly".

I will hold up my hand and admit that I have quoted that line. However I did not scream it in Vic Fluro's ear. I've quoted it to sum up the Millar Ultimates approach, though, and I have not said it in an attempted 'kewl' voice. Ahem.
