Voila. As usual, nothing for me, though:

SEVEN SOLDIERS OF VICTORY VOL 1 TP

Would that be a good place to get caught up with the first part of the So7diers story?

c(''c) (Leee), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 02:25 (twenty years ago)

yeah sorta, it's weird that you don't even get a complete run of any of the series in it but reading them in tpb has to make picking up on the connex better.

looks like just fables for me.

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 02:31 (twenty years ago)

SHE-HULK 2 #4

I thought the third issue of this just came out? I think I'm giving up on it anyway, just as Huk has finally made his peace with it (and thus the cosmic balance is maintained).

MODESTY BLAISE VOL 1 GABRIEL SET UP SC (DEC032663) $16.95

Is this the newish Titan Books thing? I should probably make my Jim Holdaway Blaise love legal someday, but I refuse to buy any of their atrociously printed crap (I remember picking up one reprint book and looking through some pages that had night sequences with a lot of heavy blacks-- they had been reprinted in a such a poor manner that it rendered them illegible). Are there any good reprints of the early Modesty Blaise out there? (Surely my CBRs weren't scanned from the originally published strips?)

Chris F. (servoret), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:53 (twenty years ago)

DESOLATION JONES #5
FABLES #45
JLA #124

GHOST RIDER #5 (OF 6)
SHE-HULK 2 #4
ULTIMATE EXTINCTION #1 (OF 5)
ULTIMATE X-MEN #66

Of these, I'm thoroughly meh on JLA and Ghost Rider, but at least they're both done in two issues. But the Ultimate titles should be good, what with Gah Lak Tus starting in one and Kirkman in the other.

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 06:08 (twenty years ago)

i don't think there's actually anything for me this week... sad!

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 07:10 (twenty years ago)

What a weak week! Except for ED THE HAPPY CLOWN!!

And yeah, I plan to dig the Seven Soldiers again in TPB.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 08:00 (twenty years ago)

douglas do you read fables?

j blount (papa la bas), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 08:14 (twenty years ago)

DANGER GIRL BACK IN BLACK #3 (I WANT MY CHEESECAKE, DAMMIT!)
DESOLATION JONES #5 (HURRAH FOR HITLER PORN!)
FABLES #45 (Is this the final Arabian Nights issue? Feels like it should be)
GREEN ARROW #58 (Not as eagerly anticipated as Showcase Presents GA - curiously little FINGER action)
GHOST RIDER #5 (Meh, but pretty)
SHE-HULK 2 #4 (Didn't #3 only ship last week?)
ULTIMATE EXTINCTION #1 (Yay Galactus!)
ULTIMATE X-MEN #66 (Umm. Habit.)

Wow, that's kind of a quiet week.

Oh, and my shop informs me Winter Men was cancelled after #2 - was I the only one reading it?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 10:18 (twenty years ago)

is it ed three? please don't tell me it's ed four and i missed ed three, that would make me sad

tom west (thomp), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 12:48 (twenty years ago)

It's awfully kind for the comics industry to keep from putting out stuff that I want while I'm broke and waiting for my next paycheck. But it's also nice for them to throw me a bone and give me one comic to buy to keep the habit going in the meantime: X-Men: The 198 #1

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 13:01 (twenty years ago)

GREEN ARROW #58 - Worlds will live, worlds will die! Merlyn promises to knock that silly cap off GA's head FOREVER!
JLA #124 - Worlds will live, worlds will die! Batman promises to knock that silly cap off GA's head FOREVER!
SHE-HULK #4 - I guess maybe the art team used their semi-break last issue to get a head start on this one?

I might get the SevSolds trade as well.

I have Winter Men #3, so your comic shop isn't 100% accurate. I think #4 was solicited to come out in March, but OH FUCK HOW DARE THEY! This ain't no Sonic Disruptors!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 14:28 (twenty years ago)

I wll probably catch up with Fables via the trades. I find I have a mild allergy to Bill Willingham's stuff.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Just Fables and She-Hulk for me. For Maddie:

DESOLATION JONES #5
DMZ #3
SON OF M #2
ULTIMATE EXTINCTION #1
ULTIMATE X-MEN #66
X-MEN THE 198 #1

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 15:57 (twenty years ago)

Yr girlfriend gets more comics than you do. Heh. Heh heh.

Beavis-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 15:59 (twenty years ago)

I get girlier comics too.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 16:00 (twenty years ago)

(really, I'm just jealous)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 16:03 (twenty years ago)

Is x-men the 198 like that misfits song???

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 16:40 (twenty years ago)

The X-Men haven't been a punk band since Storm grew out her mohawk.

Madolan, Tuesday, 10 January 2006 17:04 (twenty years ago)

I swear that if I ever get to write the X-Men in my life, I'd make Storm a punk again.

Anyway, The 198 is another mini-series spinning off from Decimation. I read about its contents earlier, and now I think I'm going to skip it since it seems to not have any actual X-Men in it.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 17:23 (twenty years ago)

decimation? is that what they're calling the house of m fall-out these days?

i like brubaker's "deadly genesis."

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Decimation is the name for it.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 17:41 (twenty years ago)

Yep, it's Decimation - X-Factor is the only REALLY GOOD thing that's come of it so far (tho I like Deadly Genesis just fine) (and I haven't read New Excalibur, because, um, I don't wanna).

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 18:24 (twenty years ago)

So does the seven soldiers trade skip anything?

kenchen, Tuesday, 10 January 2006 19:37 (twenty years ago)

It skips JLA: Classified #1-3, and otherwise (according to DC's website): This first volume reprints (in original release order): SEVEN SOLDIERS OF VICTORY #0, SEVEN SOLDIERS: SHINING KNIGHT #1-2, SEVEN SOLDIERS: THE GUARDIAN #1-2, SEVEN SOLDIERS: ZATANNA #1-2 and SEVEN SOLDIERS: KLARION #1

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 19:41 (twenty years ago)

furthermore, it will be a four-volume series of trades.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)

who is writing x-factor and what is the team composition? i don't give most x-books much of a chance though. more whedon in february!

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Peter David's writing it. The team's kinda similar to the folks he had around during his intial X-Factor run from back in The Day (circa The X-Ecutioner's Song) - Madrox, Strong Guy, & Wolfsbane are the old guard, & they're joined by Siryn, M (from Generation X), & a depowered Rictor, & that Layla Miller girl from House of M (she "knows stuff"). It's actually an extension of the much-loved, not-much-bought Madrox mini from last year, where Madrox & Strong Guy & Wolfsbane were doing some PI work. It's nice, esp. w/ Ryan Sook on (most of) the art.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 21:07 (twenty years ago)

i was never a real fan of any of those heroes :(

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 22:44 (twenty years ago)

Thanks HUK.

>i was never a real fan of any of those heroes :(

No one was a fan of those characters! David's X-Factor is sort of like the Giffen/DeMatteis JLA: a novel, fun, sitcom that was more inventive and creative than a lot of what it was riffing on. It's not perfect and David himself sort of swerves between really novel moments and sophomoric bad jokes and fight scenes. My impression is that it's more thrillpowery than his Hulk run, but because of that it, has more obnoxious mistakes. I think he likes to gravitate towards team books (even turning Hulk into a team book) so he can have characters say snappy presumptuous things to each other. In this way, his sense of humor is just like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Has anyone read his Star Trek novels? I don't think I ever thought I'd confess reading them, but I remember them being pretty great.) Anyways, Madrox was really good--I wish they'd followed it up with a regular series. He has the quirkiest power in the X-franchise and the book does some interesting takes on this. For example, he sends his duplicates out in the world to pick up learnable skills, so (while he's usually written as oaf x 200, as in GMo's incredible train scene in New X-Men), here he ends up being sort of a comically highly-skilled person, able to meditate, pick locks, do detective work, etc.

kenchen, Tuesday, 10 January 2006 23:13 (twenty years ago)

Wait, WINTER MEN has been cancelled? WTF?

Lemme dig around a bit and see if I can turn over any rocks with my local retailer.

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Madrox in PD's hands is great - the first two issues revolve around one of his dupes tricking him. And Ken's OTM about the lack of fan love for the folks in PD's X-Factor - his first X-F team had Quicksilver, Havok, & Polaris, for the luvva! - but he does wonders w/ what he's got. I think ILC's already sounded off his first X-go-around; once I get some "burritos" in me, I'll dredge up some linkage.

His first run lasted from #71-91, I think - they're probably in zee bargain bin, & definitely worth a few quarters!

Also, I doubt Winter Man has been cancelled, given it's a mini, and it was supposed to come out about 20 years ago - can it really be selling worse than Plastic Man was (or some shitass Vertigo skidmark)?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 23:55 (twenty years ago)

David's X-Factor is sort of like the Giffen/DeMatteis JLA... his sense of humor is just like Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I've read something where Joss Whedon talked up JLI as an early influence -- does this mean Giffen and DeMatteis (accidentally) invented modern-TV-teen-speak?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 00:06 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit - Buffy is totally ONE PUNCH! That's awesome.

So, anyway, instead of trying to divine what I'll be getting this week by half-remembering my pull list, I went to my dealer's website & found out what's coming to me from this week. Take a look!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 02:39 (twenty years ago)

Green Arrow #58: WTF, new writer, new penciller? I think that the new writer is just Judd Winnick anyway. Apparently, this is a new storyline as well. But really, it's just a continuation of the chase scene that started about five issues ago. Ho hum. C-
JLA #124: Hey look, it's one of the Seven Sins that were all captured in Katana's katana back in Outsiders two months and captured back into the Rock of Eternity in last week's Dept. of (Motor) Vehicles Infinite Special last week. ART BY AL JAFFEE, EVERYPAGE FOLDS IN TO REVEAL SECRET INFINITE MEANING! C
She-Hulk #4: Oh, Scott Kolins. GREAT. Secret behind birth of the Hulk revealed! B-

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 13 January 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

You don't like Kolins? PLEBE!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 13 January 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

I liked that She-Hulk issue, silly and sappy as it may be.

Althouh I thought the "*see Avengers: Search for She-Hulk TPB!" editor's note was a joke. :(

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 13 January 2006 15:56 (twenty years ago)

I was hoping for more Pulido! Kolins is okay with the right inker, like whoever he had on the Flash. But I read some Avengers thing he did that was AWGLY.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 13 January 2006 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Kolins is good at some things - weird action sequences, vistas of destroyed cities, rabid psionic apes etc - and v bad at some things - like faces and facial expressions.

Mark C (Markco), Friday, 13 January 2006 16:03 (twenty years ago)

I would probably like him a lot more if Doug Mahnke filled in lips on his faces.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 13 January 2006 16:05 (twenty years ago)

Pulido left She-Hulk again? I'm glad I dropped it.

Nobody else cares about Modesty Blaise?

Chris F. (servoret), Friday, 13 January 2006 22:29 (twenty years ago)

OMG you guys!

Brian Pulido = Creator of Lady Death!
Juan Bobillo = Shulkie hottness!

Also, JB only took one issue off, for the luvva! Also also, you don't need to see Geoff Johns' Avengers Search For She-Hulk Like Blind Men Looking For Dust Mites, because it was over-extended doodiestink that involved crappy HULK SMASH IN UNSTABLE-MOLECULE BRA & PANTIES shenanigans.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 13 January 2006 23:45 (twenty years ago)

Brian Pulido = Creator of Lady Death!

Oh. I think I actually met this guy at a con once. He seemed sorta nonplussed that I had no idea what "Lady Death" was at the time and that I expressed no interest in it. Or the dude in question might have just been an artist for Lady Death. I don't remember. Anyway, I think I probably have better things to do with my time and money than read She-Hulk whether JB's coming back or not.

Chris F. (servoret), Saturday, 14 January 2006 02:33 (twenty years ago)

No you don't!

:p

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 14 January 2006 05:58 (twenty years ago)

MY BAD!

Who drew the Shulkie Victoria's Secret Rampage of the Soul? This is key & urgent as to whether or not is worth looking at, er, reading.
