never really dug outland that much - kinda static and stocky - also, totally boring premise ('high noon' in outer space, wowsa) - not a patch on steranko's classic marvel work, which seemed to have more energy - i put it down to closer kirby proximity

steranko's 'innovations' - introducing pop art/advertising design and dali-derived surrealism into superhero comic bks - now look psych-groovy-dated, and jimbo def. favoured style o/er storytelling substance/clarity (see also n. adams) - but oh what style - i esp. love his ultra spooky horror story from this golden period - steranko was also lucky to have gd inkers (joe sinnott, tom palmer, frank giacoia) on his v. best work

It is one of the most amazing things I've seen in that space, that's for sure.

He's now describing the time he told Jack Kirby all about being an escape artist. It can only end in Mister Miracle's creation.

And it did.

You called it!

That elusive North American wood-ape (Capitaine Jay Vee), Saturday, 13 July 2013 03:08 (twelve years ago)

It was far, far too easy.

Steranko is the glue that holds history together.
