Trade paperbacks of comics you already have?

Okay, so obviously there's the debate on whether or not you should buy trades or the issues. But how about if you should buy the trade of issues you already have? I've done this a few times, usually with Grant Morrison stuff. But I feel stupid.

(This thread is a pretext for trying to get you to buy me the graphic novels of comics I already have on the west coast!)

I do this, if just so I can have everything neat on a bookshelf. If I had more money, I'd do more of it. Reading comics as periodicals is one thing, and having the stuff you really like all neat on a bookshelf is another.

I think the only thing I've ever done this for is Batman: Death in the Family. I got the first three, and then the fourth part sold out, but DC rushed a trade out (which was totally unheard of back then). I think it was $5, which was superexpensive by 1988 standards, and now sounds quaint.

I have all the Bone TPBs, then I went and got the one volume SC, sold that, then went and got the one volume HC.

I've done it for a lot of things. Some of them were back issues that have been stolen and I'll never see again (WATCHMEN, among others--wish Paul Pope would do a THB collection of some kind). Mostly they were things that I wanted to read again and didn't want to fuss with the back issues for (some of which are bagged boarded and taped). And some are just so I can keep my membership in the first church of Morrison (plus those NEW X-MEN hardbacks are so damn cheap by comparison).

Off the top of my head:
Byrne's FANTASTIC FOUR
Moore's SWAMP THING, V FOR VENDETTA (even have some of the original WARRIORs that they ran in. Glorious B/W), LEAGUE
Morrison's THE FILTH, NEW X-MEN, DOOM PATROL (sorta--I have most of the run in singles and am getting trades as they come out) as well as his recent minis.
Mignola's HELLBOY
Mckean's CAGES (should really sell the singles to collectors)
Miller's DAREDEVIL run
Gaiman's SANDMAN. In hardcover. Man, but I was a fanboy.

I like books. Singles sometimes drive me nuts. That said, I'm not sure if I'll buy the SEVEN SOLDIERS collection(s) due to the funky way they're being organized.

This is the longbox into which I file my floppies.

Marvel is publishing a trade paperback on The New Mutants in April (it includes the graphic novel, first seven issues, and an issue of Uncanny). Much to my surprise, as copies of these issues don't go for much money (even NM #1). Even though I have these already, I'm buying anyway, maybe out of nostalgia, since New Mutants was my favorite comic as a young kid. It's nice to have them in one book, anyway.
