just a heads-up that this sunday's south bank show is on japanese comics and animation 'and its influence on western pop culture'. miyasaki, otomo, koike, mizuno and jamie hewlett all mentioned in the little spiel in Guardian Guide.

Paul Gravett mentioned this to me the other day -- he was a consultant on it. I missed it, though, so if he asks me for an opinion he isn't gonna get much of a response. :-/

Oh, Paul did ask me! I think he'll probably send me the tape so I can put it onto DVD for him, as I'm told he was featured quite extensively...

suffered a bit from trying to cram several hundred years worth of artistic output into a one hour show. i always wonder why they can't just do 6 half hours or something like the one on drawing late last year, that impressionist thing on ch4 or the outsider art thing jarvis did.

Well, I'm still in the process of being sold on Manga per se (I read the first volume of Nausicaa a while ago), so I shall look forward to taking a look when the tape arrives.
