Anyway, Batman Outsider Maze Agency WHAT?

I need to check comics.org because I'm bound to mix him up with Mike W. Baron Bedlam.

Oh fuck, Mike W. Barr did the awesome 1983 Green Arrow miniseries that was supposed to launch GA into his first-ever solo title!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 16 February 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

I remember nothing about Batman and the Outsiders except that it had one of the obligatory-in-the-80s This Character Was Molested As A Child issue (around the same time Dreadstar did!)

Camelot 3000 was a huge deal, but I never read it.

Didn't he write some Green Arrow? ... or I'm confusing him with Mike Grell, who definitely did.

xpost; there we go!

Looks like he wrote Swamp Thing between Wein & Moore.
He sure wrote A LOT of Outsiders comics. (though was Outsiders reprinted in the same way that New Teen Titans and Legion of SH was in the 80s?) Which means he created Duke of Oil!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 16 February 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

He also wrote the pretty good Tales of the Green Lantern Corps miniseries around the same time as the GA mini. (Plot: the GLC vs. Space Zombies)

Barr's an Ellery Queen fetishist, which is okay because so am I--he really likes the "I have now given you all the clues to this mystery!" thing. And yes, he gets extra points for Camelot 3K.

The pre-Moore Swamp Things (or at least immediately pre-Moore) were by Martin Pasko, though.

Douglas (Douglas), Thursday, 16 February 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

he also created "the Nuclear family" and "the force of july," similarly goofy villains like the Duke of Oil, in the Outsiders.

he's grate!

Barr also created Agent Orange (a disgruntled Vietnam veteran who wore an orange gasmask) and Madame Ovary, who I think cloned Adolf Hitler. I stil, can't decide if those names are great or awful.

David Simpson (David Simpson), Friday, 17 February 2006 13:09 (nineteen years ago)

Agent Orange: awful (though forgivable for its obviousness); Madame Ovary: great (obvious, sure, but Hitler? COME ON!)

two weeks pass...
Bazump!

I think Barr's work in Swamp Thing was on the back-up stories (Phantom Stranger, mostly, IIRC) in those Pasko issues.
