Da fug! & some questions:

1) Does it mean anything that the Director's Cut of Nextwave #1 costs the same as the Original Cut?
1a) Why the hell is the inclusion of Ellis' semi-censored script from a book I already bought actually tempting me?
1b) Because I need to get out more?
2) Annihilation Prologue Dellotto Sketch Variant = FIFTY DOLLARS!??!!
3) Just in time for Spring (& the Fathom Needs A Sandwich charity drive) - the Aspen Swimsuit Special?
4) Elvis Presley Jailhouse Rock Super Stage Figure?

Comics I won't get until next week (unless I stop at the comic shop on my way to the airport on Wednesday--and don't think I'm not trying to figure out how I can make that work!):

Batman Year One Hundred #2 - Hrm, bean juice on my cape.
Birds Of Prey #92 - MAYBE
Green Arrow #60 - FUCK OFF
Infinite Crisis Secret Files 2006 - "Help me, Superboy! I just fell into the icy waters of the North Pacific. Quick! Take my clothes off!"
JLA Classified #18 - Okay.
Nightwing #118 - Cocaine is a hell of a drug
Showcase Presents Superman Family Vol 1 TP - I might actually pass on this. I don't know.
Superman #650 - Douglas's report on this has got me intrigued.
Teen Titans Annual #1 - "Help me, Wonder Girl! I just fell into the icy waters of the the North Pacific. Quick! Take my clothes off!"
Essential Godzilla TP - ILC has made me want this.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 March 2006 15:29 (twenty years ago)

MADDIE BUYS THINGS:

DMZ #5 - Haven't read 1-4 yet, but I'm sure once I get around to it I'll be very happy. Or so I'm told.
Walking Dead #26 - Like an undead hand bursting from the cemetery dirt, last month seemed to imply a return to form. Less soap opera! More zombies!
Runaways Vol 2 #14 - kids say the darnedest things
Ultimate Extinction #3
Ultimate X-Men #68 - Kirkman's love of soap operas works well here, but I hope they fight someone soon. "Who kisses who" isn't all that compelling.
Living With Zombies #6

Madolan, Monday, 13 March 2006 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Add SS: Bulleteer to that list and I'm set.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 13 March 2006 15:34 (twenty years ago)

Body Bags!! :D

theyre still doing glitzy variant covers?

Yawn (Wintermute), Monday, 13 March 2006 15:38 (twenty years ago)

The Maddy/Jordan hivemind's faith in potential Walking Dead zombie fun is much stronger than mine. I know the minute I cut bait, tho, out comes the fun.

Re: variant covers = "they" being "every comic company!"

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 13 March 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

Bulleteer, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men. What a weak week! I'll probably just pick this stuff up next Wednesday. No big rush here.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 13 March 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

just JLA Classified here.
Maybe I will look at the ESSENTIAL GODZILLA, cuz I love Godzilla, but I will probably not buy it.

I might look into getting some of those EC/tales from the crypt collections too, this week. watching the EC doc over the weekend with Laura & our friend Mike made me really want to read a lot of that stuff.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Monday, 13 March 2006 17:36 (twenty years ago)

if you really must blow bucks on herb trimpe a/work i wld go for Essential Hulk 3 rather than Essential Godzilla, one of Marvel's v. hackiest comics ever

EC on the other hand = greatest comic company ever, tho the horror titles are best read in small doses - i wld maybe start w/ one of the Crime titles instead (esp. any that have Krigstein a/work in em)

gasp choke

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Monday, 13 March 2006 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Essential Godzilla, one of Marvel's v. hackiest comics ever
that only makes me want it more (though, um, if it's more expensive than the Showcase Presents, I'll probably take a pass)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 March 2006 17:45 (twenty years ago)

GROSS FACTOR:
DC's "Crisis Counselling" Blurb for Teen Titans Annual takes on ickiness after the spoilage from last week's TT that Superboy and Wonder Girl "made love":
After narrowly escaping death in the Crisis, will Superboy and Wonder Girl enjoy time alone in Smallville...or will it be a bloody Valentine?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 March 2006 18:08 (twenty years ago)

Besides the stuff I already mentioned reading in the other thread:

INFINITE CRISIS SECRET FILES 2006--sigh
SEVEN SOLDIERS: BULLETEER #4--like I wouldn't get this
SHOWCASE PRESENTS SUPERMAN FAMILY VOL 1--although I think this one's almost entirely '50s Jimmy Olsen--man, I'd LOVE to have a volume of the '70s Superman Family stuff
SPIDER-WOMAN: ORIGIN #4--I am oddly compelled by this miniseries
JIMBO'S INFERNO--actually I have this already too, but am very much looking forward to reading it

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 13 March 2006 18:09 (twenty years ago)

I am actually resisting the siren song of INFINITE SECRET SADFILES. I think it's because of my cold.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 13 March 2006 18:22 (twenty years ago)

So I'm guessing the ten or twelve books on my list all come out the same two weeks, as here's the second consecutive with absolutely nothing for me. Perchance I'll give that Rocketo a shot. Or maybe finally pull the trigger on that GL Showcase deal.

amply parked (Garrett Martin), Monday, 13 March 2006 18:40 (twenty years ago)

Rocketo vs. Showcase Presents GL...
That would make a good article in WARLOCK MAGAZINE.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 March 2006 18:47 (twenty years ago)

We shd get Frank Miller on that STAT.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 13 March 2006 18:51 (twenty years ago)

TOO LATE!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 March 2006 19:00 (twenty years ago)

I anticipate the artwork with painted Rocketo and b&w Silver Age Hal pitched in a time-defying battle of most epic proportion.

Wait, does Rocketo even battle people? Or just look all awesomely painted whilst out adventuring, and stuff? All I know is the art's all sorts of beautiful, and the girl at the store praised it even higher than thou disembodied spirits of the internet have.

ample parking (Garrett Martin), Monday, 13 March 2006 19:07 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's pretty much the long and short of it. There's some battlin', mostly sea creatures and mutants (though, um, maybe I just haven't read far enough yet, isn't EVERYBODY on the "new" Earth a mutant? But it's more HIGH ADVENTURE with breath-taking art.
It's like: Aquaman + Tintin + Jules Verne + Dick Tracy + Lord of the Rings + Mad Max + A LOT OF STUFF.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 March 2006 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Looking at my arithmatic, I guess you could just say that Rocketo is Boys' Lit w/ gorgeous art.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 March 2006 19:13 (twenty years ago)

omg that sounds so rad.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 13 March 2006 19:16 (twenty years ago)

Green Arrow #60 - OYL, elecyed and FITEING. And still probably not very good.
JLA Classified #18 - Hang on, Chemo is alive again?
Seven Soldiers Bulleteer #4 - Am I alone in thinking #4 has been the highlight of all the previous minis? If so, this should be a doozy.
Showcase Presents Superman Family Vol 1 - Less Jimmy, more Lois next time kthxbi.
Four #28 - I am automatically suspicious of any book which claims GREAT JUMPING ON POINT!!!
Punisher vs Bullseye #5 - So gay, so good.
Ultimate Extinction #3 - JUST EAT HIM
Ultimate X-Men #68 - I don't know why I buy this

I might also pick up INFINITELY SADFACE SECRETS and the Nick Fury book, if they get it in.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 09:30 (twenty years ago)

ultimate extinction for me!! i love this shit

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 16:16 (twenty years ago)

dude, the first issue of the new Nick Fury totally sucked donkey balls.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Peacemaker? Yeah, it was OK on the meh tip - nothing special, but I'm hoping it was just First Issue Syndrome. Definitely not as grippy as the last Ennis / Robertson collab(Punisher: Born).

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Runaways - n00b! Three distinct story arcs, all handled with typical BKV aplomb. Many LOLs. A-
Batman: Year 100 - No surprise, the store was out, so I'll be reading it when it gets traded.

c(''c) (Leee), Friday, 17 March 2006 07:07 (twenty years ago)

Was that Nick Fury, or Nick Fury and His Real Actual Howling Commandos, Howling Because They Are Monsters - That Howl - Do You See?????

Pete (Pete), Friday, 17 March 2006 12:20 (twenty years ago)

the runaways are getting less and less convincing, which is a pity, because that was really quite a good issue, other than that.

tom west (thomp), Friday, 17 March 2006 13:10 (twenty years ago)

ultimate extinction for me!! i love this shit
-- s1ocki (slytus...), March 14th, 2006. (later)

Just got Ultimate Extinction this week and it put a great big cheesy grin on my face. It reminded me of just why I totally fucking love big stupid superhero comics!

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Friday, 17 March 2006 13:50 (twenty years ago)

Because you're unbelievably sexist like the rest of us and only buying them for the BOOBAGE?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 17 March 2006 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah. I'd forgotten that part. All hail the TITTAYS!

A Brief Report (Avec Spoilers):

WALKING DEAD #26: OMG something is actually happening! A helicopter crashed! And folks are going to it! And they're fighting zombies on the way! Note to Mr. Kirkman: breaking up the talk talk w/ more gratuitous zombie carnage would've made the past 6-8 months a lot more enjoyable. Also: POLYAMORY! RATING: 3.5 BRAINS

SUPERMAN #650: AKA SUPERGIRL'S PAL CLARK KENT! OMG this is really really pretty good, as Douglas has noted elsewhere! Also, for Huk, there is a ONE PUNCH! moment @ the end of the book. RATING: 24 Superprime punches.

SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN #24: THEE ONLY Spider-book featuring Ye Olde Red-Blue Togs. Kinda suffers from Loebitis (i.e. less "witty" captions, plz), but solid. Appearances by The Lizard, Vermin, & the Black Cat, & a John Jameson that you KNOW wants to turn into the Man-wolf - whither the Grizzly? RATING: 3 eyeballs.

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #5: Notorious fill-in artist / mimic Roger Cruz! Drawing like ... Roger Cruz? Yeah, sure. As for the story - Iron Spidey wrassles w/ Santo Lite because someone killed Santo's father. Prepare to be unmasked. OK, but kinda meh. Long time fans will possibly enjoy the old-skool Flash / Parker reparte. RATING: 2.5 stabby wrist kabobs.

INVINCIBLE #29: The Greatest Super-Hero Book In The Universe has a case of the Walking Deads, except there's less soap-operatics, & more boring bloody fisticuffs IN SPACE. Bordering on BLOODSTRIKE spleen-venting territory. Come home soon, Invincible. RATING: ONE PUNCH (give or take 2).

ANNIHILATION PROLOGUE: Ha - Ariel Olivetti fans get the bone as he draws only 6 pages! Lots of Nova action. I mean LOTS of Nova action. A few pages given to the other 3 folks getting minis out of this (they being the Silver Surfer, the Super-Skrull, and RONAN). And, duh, you can figure out the villain behind all this sci-fi alien carnage if you just think about the title of the book. Helping friendly MU-type dossier pages in the back of the book explain what the actual story couldn't be bothered w/ amidst all the blowing up. Maybe not as good as I think it is, but I liked it all the same. RATING: 4 Pip cigars.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 17 March 2006 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Birds of Prey

It is One Year Later and Babs is still not cured. Black Canary is off learning ultimate kung fu powers in a remote village somewhere where she has to wear jeans and thus not use her gusset revealing two footed kick that she does EVERY ISSUE. Meanwhile Huntress and Lady Shiva amusingly pwn some batman villains to help some bloke defect form the Society of Super Villains and it looks like Gypsy is the new team member. Gasp - the Society will be shiver at the thought of facing a heroine named after a Fleetwood Mac song! Still, this is good fun...
