Critique ME too!

Anyone wanna critique my outtakes?

I've done a two-page story for the FutureQuake offshoot, Something Wicked. (Uh, hi Al!) Now, actually, I think it's a lot of shit. I'm pretty hard on myself. I've started to think my first effort was better, but I only finished the first page and then abandoned it. So...

This is the abandoned page. Why didn't I finish it? Someone tell me it's shit and I'll feel a bit better about it...

(Yeah, I've been online a lot today. I just got Broadband. And I'm a bit stressed and need some distraction so I've been surfing around in desperation...)

It looks fine to me. Are there meant to be words on it, or is it a silent piece?

It's meant to be silent. The last panel on page two would've had some copy. But I decided I hated it and would do something 'better'... also, they were a bit worried about this being A4, so I did something A3 instead... so, I ended up hating version two and thinking THIS was actually rather nice. C'est la vie.

Sounds like a tragically familiar story... have you got a deadline yet?

Vic F (Vic Fluro), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 00:14 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, yeah, I sent the second version in late last week (in spite of having the flu). I added computer lettering & tones myself too. Then... I started to HATE it! And make Ed's life a misery by telling him this at great length. ;-)

(In fact -- my bad -- I think they were pretty much waiting for ME with the deadline, while I cogitated and mucked around endlessly.)

Once something's gone into the e-mail I try not to think about it... that way lies madness...

Vic F (Vic Fluro), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 00:19 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, I've spent much time gazing at it. I really shouldn't. Then I showed it to someone and they said, 'Well, I've seen worse...' That was IT! Alex Toth was right!

Still, too late now. So I demand that people shower me with praise at Bristol, even if it's a lie. Just to make me feel better. ;-)

Fair enough.

Is it a story about the anguish of the blank page? All of those are shit, you were quite right to abandon it.

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 14 March 2006 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

No, it's not. In fact, on the second page I get a scrawl that, in a Rorschach kind of way, looks like Jesus, while in the parallel narrative, a lot of zombie-like figures approach ominously... who turn out to be churchgoers.

Guaranteed to offend loads of people, but that's something I try not to worry about...
