That's brilliant.

I remember a series of Garfield's from about 15 years ago, where Jim Davis (or whichever sweatshop labourer was drawing them for him that week) decided to go "serious" for a few days. There were no "jokes" in the scripts, a lot of self-help-style captions, and for some reason a close-up of Garfield's sweating eyeball that still creeps me out today.

Anyone else remember?

ha, i saw these strips a few weeks ago -- i thought it was on ilx! maybe not. anyway, they're pretty great. the strip becomes totally existential.

these are brilliant! it's funny how removing all that smug cat-commentary suddenly makes garfield actually funny.

i wonder what would happen if you did this with snoopy's dialogue in peanuts. could that strip get any MORE existential?
