Seems to be up here.

For me:
DETECTIVE COMICS #818--perhaps something will actually, you know, happen this time
EX MACHINA VOL. 3: FACT VS. FICTION GN--I'm really enjoying this series in trades
INFINITE CRISIS #6--perhaps something will actually, you know, make sense this time
OMAC PROJECT INFINITE CRISIS SPECIAL--see Infinite Crisis
ESSENTIAL X-MEN VOL. 7 TPB--picking up right about where I gave up reading the series originally
ED THE HAPPY CLOWN #6--Chester Brown's liner notes are pretty illuminating
GHOST OF HOPPERS HC--okay fine so I reviewed this one like two months ago in Salon, but really, it IS unbelievably good
JUDGE DREDD COMPLETE CASE FILES VOL. 2 TPB--Goddammit, I still need to find Vol. 1, and nobody has it in stock

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 3 April 2006 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

Batman And The Monster Men #6 - SMURSH! (when does the next MW Batmini start?)
Detective Comics #818 - SMERSH!
Infinite Crisis #6 Perez Cvr - SMEESH!
OMAC Project Infinite Crisis Special - SMELSH!
Teen Titans #34 Reg Cover - FUCK.
Winter Men #4 - What's the point?
Marvel Zombies #5 - is this 5 of 5 or 5 of 6?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 3 April 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

PS, Hi Douglas, I bought yr LATA book the other. It's next in the queue after I finish Showcase Preznits Jimmy Olsen

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 3 April 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

jeeze, there really ain't much for me this week. MAYBE moon knight, if it looks good. i have fond memories of him. maybe marvel zombies, but i was gonna wait for the trade, and ed the happy clown.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

Damn, this is an expensive week for me.

Ex Machina tpb
Essential X-Men tpb
Infinite Crisis
Ultimate X-Men

Where Essential X-Men picks up where Douglas gave up, it's more or less the period that pulled me into the series, so it's going to be a "relive comics that you read when you were eight years old" thing for me.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

Batman & the Monster Men (it seems like this comes out every two weeks, which is great!)
Planetary (take what I said above and reverse it!)
Y
Marvel Zombies

Maybe Ex Machina, though I've kind of lost the plot. I'll take a look at the trade to see if I've read the arc or not.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you! That makes, I think, five people who've actually bought the thing.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

What thing is this?

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

explain me batman and the monster men?

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:21 (nineteen years ago)

Re: Douglas + 5 - it's this thing.

On the comic front, this looks to be a light week (cough):

Annihilation Silver Surfer #1: IT BEGINS
Aquaman Sword Of Atlantis #41 Reg Cvr
Batman And The Monster Men #6
Batman Secrets #2
Battle Pope Color #6: it's stupid & awesome!
Ed The Happy Clown #6
Ex Machina #19
Infinite Crisis #6 Perez Cvr
Marvel Team-Up #19: One more chance...
Marvel Zombies #5
Moon Knight #1 Reg Cover
OMAC Project Infinite Crisis Special
Planetary #25
Strangetown #1: I cannae deny baby seals
Ultimate X-Men #69
Winter Men #4
Y The Last Man #44
Young Avengers #11

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:24 (nineteen years ago)

Slocki: think Year 1 1/2, pulpy old-school Batman story with great art (+ mad scientists and monster men).

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, cool (re: Doug's thing). I should read that because even though I'm a huge JB fan, I've never gotten into LatA (Love Power Peace is my shit, along with In the Jungle Groove, all the funk singles, etc.).

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

Further to Batman & the Monster Mash, it's all based on the first year of Batman's comic adventures, er, Batman's adventures in comics, so the Batman Chronicles Vol. 1. is an excellent companion piece.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

Aquaman Sword Of Atlantis #41 Reg Cvr
Ex Machina #19
Infinite Crisis #6 Perez Cvr
JSA #84 - I have got to drop this.
OMAC Project Infinite Crisis Special
Planetary #25 - Sputtering to a close. Still, I love this series.
Y The Last Man #44 - Big fan of these BKV-centric weeks.

Marvel Zombies #5 - Pretty sure it's 5 of 5, but I was wrong about Books of Doom.
Ultimate X-Men #69

I have fond memories of the Essential vol. 7 era of X-Men too, as I started reading regularly at about issue 200. But I just unearthed my copies of the issues, so I won't be buying the Essentials.

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

Just Infinite Crisis, in-store reading and NO FRANKENSTEIN for me. I've yet to catch up on Ex Machina Vol. 2, let alone Vol. 3. Was All-New-Aquaman any good?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and on the recommendation of EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD EXCEPT ME, I finally picked up Showcase Superman, and it is just as good as billed, thanks!

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

Re: Nu-Aquaman - what Tom said.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 3 April 2006 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

ALEX ROSS GREEN GOBLIN HEAD BUST $45.00

Aw right!

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 3 April 2006 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

Does anyone know a good alternative to zcu*t and a*ureu*? They're crapping out on me all the time now.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:38 (nineteen years ago)

a*ureu* = the BT client, yes? A lot of trackers now ban it because it doesn't update the ratio properly or something. ut0rr3nt is the way to go now as far as BT, though I exclusively borrow from dee cee plus plus for comics.

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 3 April 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

4zureus + dcp (from zcu1t) generally does me fine.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 3 April 2006 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

Great, thanks for the tip. I'm confused about how to use DC++, but I guess that's what temporary unemployment is for.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 3 April 2006 23:09 (nineteen years ago)

(I can't seem to get tr8nsfers to go about 10KB, but it's probly my computer's fault now I think about it.)

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 3 April 2006 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

There's a section in the FAQ about good settings to get the most out of 4zureus, it worked wonders for me.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 08:38 (nineteen years ago)

looking like i gonna pick up

detective #818
teen titans #34
ultimate x #69
new excalibar #6
silver surfer anihilation #1
moon knight #1

silly mistakes?

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Thursday, 6 April 2006 08:31 (nineteen years ago)

Haha

I went today for the first time in 3 weeks.

£110.

I think I may have a comics problem.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 6 April 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

moon knight kinda sucked

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 6 April 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

Batman And The Monster Men #6 - Sorta the weakest issue of the series--the rooftop beatup is a million times less cool than the earlier CAGE MATCH--BUT utterly redeems itself with the epilogue, especially the last page. OOOH. See you in July, Matt! OOOH +
Detective Comics #818 - Okay, I think I've figured this out. There are two different artists working on this storyline, but their styles are so similar (and they're both JSA refugees) that you could only tell if you cared. And maybe you should care, because the guy doing the Batman chapters is less good than the guy doing Detective. This reads like 1983 Batman, all that's missing is THE ABOMINABLE (albino) SNOWMAN and a sexy vampiress. Oh, and it's waaaaay emo, but thinks its NOIR. B-
Infinite Crisis #6 - Clusterfuck of artists, redux of OMAC Project's final issue, lotsa punchy (but no one punches the universe, except someone kinda does), some mindless fanwank, and most of the content's emotional whoomp relies on the faulty premise that anybody gives a damn about Young Justice. C+
OMAC Project Infinite Crisis Special - Some really ugly art, but you kinda get used to it within five pages. Now we know why it was delayed (it picks up immediately after the events of IC6), but, um, sets up the Checkmate series and does little else (except make Sasha less fugly again). C
Teen Titans #34 - Argh, I kinda liked this. I don't really care, but it was fun like the the Future Titans storyline was fun. And I really dig on the new Wonder Girl costume. GREAT SHADES OF GO GO DONNA TROY! But, and this is a very big BUT, Wendy & Marvin? Gimme a break. C+
Winter Men #4 - Didn't this used to be a 12 issue series? Or at least 8-issue series? Now the cover says "out of 6". Whatever. I haven't even read issue three yet, I'm waiting until I have some sort of confidence that the series will be seen through. I'm still buying it, howev.
Marvel Zombies #5 - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Every page has something awesome! Oh, how I'm going to miss you, Marvel Zombies! Oh man. MINISERIES OF THE CENTURY. A+

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 6 April 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

marvel zombies is fucking fantastic.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

i almost bought winter men, but for some reason i bought PLANETARY instead? i dunno what i was thinking. planetary made me fall asleep at 9pm last night.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 6 April 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

I liked the new Planetary. Better than the last one for sure. It definitely reads better in trades. The insane gaps between issues makes you forget what the hell is even happening. Seems like Ellis even forgot, hence all the recapping over the last two issues.

sheep sheet (serious sheet), Thursday, 6 April 2006 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

Moon Knight - nothing happens, does it? All set-up. I guess to introduce the character to "new readers". Like there will be any. But shows a little promise. Just coz its a comic about Moon Knight. Good enough for me, sadly.

Judge Dredd Casebook 3 - too much Ron Smith art. Other than that - Judge Death...

David N (David N.), Thursday, 6 April 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

This week's was my first ever Queen and Country! I didn't like it. Seemed like one of those annoying episodes of Buffy, where SMG spends too long "recovering" from whatever tragedy happened the last week and everything gets seriously boring.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 6 April 2006 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't like the new Planetary all that much (But I liked it waaay more than IC6, which I bought at the same time).I liked the Four's origin as it was. Ellis is retconning his own stuff now.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Friday, 7 April 2006 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 7 April 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

i liked the planetary cuz you actually learned stuff about the bad guys, which dude has been teasing us with for like 30 issues now. i wish this comic was better. better-structured. and stuff. cuz i think dude has some genuinely rad ideas but he can't always tell a good story with them. see also grant morrison 50% of the time.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 7 April 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

I can't get into Planetary at all, is it worth the effort?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 7 April 2006 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think it's really a retcon -- the Authority fuck around with the bleed all the time and no one human who's tagged along has ended up with weird powers. I'm not sure if it was Ellis's original intention but it makes a lot more sense than the previous story.

mike h. (mike h.), Friday, 7 April 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Chuck, grab it in trades.

mike h. (mike h.), Friday, 7 April 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

I hate zombies but love awesome things. Should I read Marvel Zombies anyway?

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 7 April 2006 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

http://img473.imageshack.us/img473/764/marvzomcapfin6cc.gif

Cap sez yes.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 7 April 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

do you hate zombie CULTURE or do you hate zombies themselves? for being evil?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 7 April 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

I've tried the first Planetary trade, but I found it (and the characters) kind of annoying -- too wannabe nerd machismo. Does it get better?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 7 April 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

...sorta?

i'm totally with you on the wannabe nerd machismo thing! so lame!

and i know you're not a cassaday fan, so... i wouldn't bother

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 7 April 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

by the way chuckles i'm in TO next week if you are and want to hang.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 7 April 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

i'm back in the UK! but back in to in june...

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 7 April 2006 15:07 (nineteen years ago)

OMG Huk, that gif.

I'm interested in Matthew's a to Slocki's q.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 April 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

Me too, but in the meantime (last one):

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 7 April 2006 16:39 (nineteen years ago)

do you hate zombie CULTURE or do you hate zombies themselves? for being evil?

Zombie culture, I guess. The evil thing, you know, I can deal with that since they are meant to be villains and all.

Zombies as a concept just is kinda boring to me. It's always just this "people are sheep, man!" thing, and I hate that. But Marvel Zombies just seems kinda batshit, and that's appealing...

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 7 April 2006 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

There is AMAZINGLY ZERO subtext to Marvel Zombies. It's exactly what it says it is.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 7 April 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

it really is. matt i think you would dig it... or should i say... DIG INTO IT!!!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 7 April 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't been reading Marvel Zombies, but I admit I am deeply amused by the idea that the surviving heroes are very happy when Galactus arrives, because JUST THINK OF ALL THAT FOOD.

Douglas (Douglas), Friday, 7 April 2006 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

And the first issue works perfectly as a done-in-one story--in fact, a part of me was ready to leave it there, because, I thought, it's only gonna go downhill--but it didn't, it's really, really a thing of wonder. The last issue is just, like, every page (or every page turn--well, every second page turn) is just, OH WOW. It's thrillpower in action.

xpost--yes, part of its beauty is in its blatant facileness

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 7 April 2006 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

Well, hey, they all have the Power Cosmic by the time the Big G arrives, so it's like an all-you-can-eat buffet. From space.
