I don't think it'll be any of the characters listed in that article. But Arsenal seems like a strong candidate.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Meltzer kind of sounds like a dick, but that's the peril of soundbites.

My dollar goes to the Gay Ghost. Or did Robinson revamp him in Starman and make him all cool or something?

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It would be kind of cool if there was a big superhero crossover written by Dick Meltzer.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Richard Belzer!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Jane Austen instead of Chuck Austen!

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Or any other former Real World cast member besides Judd Winnick! Especially Tammy!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

HAHAHAHAHA!

Identity Crisis Part 3:

Writer - Tammy LA
Penciller - Rachel SF
Inker - Joe Miami
Colorist - Alton LV
Sub-Editor - Puck LA
Editor - CT Paris

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

is it just me, or was that incredibly unpleasant to read?

Vic Fluro, Friday, 21 May 2004 07:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Only if you have investment in the characters Vic.

Stuff happening which may hint it is the return of Hal Joran as Green Lantern (so what do they do with Rayner. Stuff him in a fridge like his girlfriend was), and the current female Robin which will not last (however killing Robin's seems to be a BAD IDEA).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 21 May 2004 10:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't you investment me. No, I didn't like it because it was just doing the usual boring 'One WILL die' death-as-gimmick crapola. It was just oozing a smugness and self-satisfaction over snuffing Elongated Man or whoever. Set my teeth on edge.

Vic Fluro, Friday, 21 May 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Doiby Dickles!

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 21 May 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

For ages we'll think it's Captain Atom, but it'll turn out to be Hawk.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:05 (twenty-one years ago)

...eye.

That's the big secret: he's actually going to kill a Marvel character!

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

BEST CROSSOVER EVER!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I think, in Marvel's _Identity Disc_, they kill Todd McFarlane.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

So PAD's writing it, then?

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm grumpy and cranky today through lack of sleep, so why stop at half measures? Kill them all! For the next month we will give the writers the challenge of writing a story where the only movement is the blowing of tumbleweeds across the streets full of corpses.

We can call it 'Nuff Dead Month!

Vic Fluro, Friday, 21 May 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Tim Truman can draw the tumbleweeds, and Alex Ross can draw the roadrunner and coyote. (Have fun finding the models, Mr Ross!)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

The corpses will be done by Fred Hembeck, of course, and will be a pile of swirly elbows and x's for eyes.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope it's the new Supergirl. She's such a bitch.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

And she has abnormally flat abs. For eff's sake, Turner, feed that girl some soul food!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Marvel should just announce that the _Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe_ special is official continuity and be done w/ it.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, before I go back to goofing off on ILM - IDENTITY DISC IS THE WORST NAME FOR ANYTHING EVER. I only hope the sequel will be named "Initialization File", or "Employee Database".

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Or "The Cosmic Spreadsheet"

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to say this all the time on rac, and I think I believe it less now: but there was a time when I really thought the best thing for Marvel would be a Crisis of their own; not a half-assed one like DC's, but you end the whole damn place in September, wait three months (to allow for the inevitable scheduling fuckups) during which you only release non-continuity stuff like Ultimates, Epic, movie adaps, whatever, and then launch the new damn place -- not only post-Crisis style, but Silver Age style, i.e. Jay Garrick -> Flash, red costume + magic lantern -> Green Lantern Corps, and so on. Get rid of the nonsense that's accumulated underfoot and tempts too many writers towards terrible "reinventions" or retcons instead of forcing them to move forward.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Tep, see the last 20 years of Legion of Superheroes.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure I can bear to (one of the few Big Two long-running superhero titles I've never read). That's different, though, that's one title!

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The Keith Giffen/Tom & Mary Bierbaum revamp was pretty cool. I bought the first year or so of that. It was very unspandex and blade runnerish. The Legion were all their 30s and screwed up. Next time I checked they were flippin' teenagers again.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 21 May 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I think their universe was reborn three times in the first five or six issues. It was very cool.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 21 May 2004 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Way cool.

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is that, anyway? (I might know the name, I might not; I know some stuff about the Legion, just not from the title itself...)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Valor!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

He looks so ... grim! At least I know who Valor is, though, mostly. I should have taken better notice of those shoulder circle things, but I think of Valor as being pretty babyfaced.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

You try fighting the Time Trapper & see if you can keep your pores clean.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I will use Rebecca Gayheart as a shield and sidekick!

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 May 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I seem to remember an issue of Starman with Valor and Manga Khan in...

Chuck Tatum (Chuck Tatum), Saturday, 22 May 2004 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

THAT was actually Mon-El, and repurcussions of him beating down the Time Trapper there led to him being recast as Valor. And he WAS old by then, having recently overcome some sort of bad-ass lead-poisoning.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Thursday, 27 May 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

beware, above link contains MAJOR SPOILAGE!!! (maybe)

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Thursday, 27 May 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Is the spoilage that Hawkman is an S&M leather freak? Because I think we've known that for years.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 27 May 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

So, it's Mrs. Elongated Man. She's dead.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I smell angst.

Vic Fluro, Wednesday, 9 June 2004 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I would love to see a full-page splash of the Elongated Man doing the old cliche'd "NOOOOO!" only, y'know, all stretchy-like!

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

What, like spelling out NOOOOOOOOO! with his body? That would be cool, actually...

David N (David N.), Wednesday, 9 June 2004 22:32 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a really good issue. I'm hooked. I kinda didn't want to be, but it's pretty cool. And I don't think Batman appears onscreen, which is interesting. Though I'm going to go back over the funeral scene, because I'm sure he's there.
Green Arrow looks to have a big role in this which is awesome!

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Thursday, 10 June 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Huckle OTM re: goodness. That shamelessly manipulative exposition device introduced in the beginning actually worked! I was skeptical about it (of, of COURSE the bystander-type character's gonna die, blah blah), but then w/ all the "Oh my god"ing from other JLers and EM telling the story about him & his wife, and Ms. EM prepping for the suprise party, I got all tense & anxious as the climax approached. Bastard Meltzer.

Anyone here gonna give Marvel's "answer" to this series (Identity Disc) a shot? I read that it's totally biting _The Usual Suspects_. Wooooo.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 10 June 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Did you notice how small the DC hero community has become?
Compare the funeral two-page splash in IC to the "Death of Supergirl" Crisis cover (of course they were dealing with the Multiverse there).

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Thursday, 10 June 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn those corporations and their downsizing!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 10 June 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Have they been outsourcing superhero jobs?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 11 June 2004 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't that what KnightFall & Death of Superman were all about?

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Friday, 11 June 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

So will he call himself Dark Elongated Man now? In his stretchy black leather suit with claws.

Or will it be a new name entirely, like Bloodstrykkorr or Doctor Vengeance?

Vic Fluro, Friday, 11 June 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

He's gonna be called Whiplash or Snapback, obviously.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

"I give criminals the savage floggings they deserve - using my own grieving face!"

Vic Fluro, Friday, 11 June 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

THWAP!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, it's spelt 'Whypplashh'. For extra darkness.

Vic Fluro, Friday, 11 June 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I had some extended scenario involving Whypplassh leaving the JL for Codename: Strykeforce or Cyberforce and getting jiggy w/ Cyblade, but your "savage floggings" post came up first and saved us all from that.

Maybe he could take over for that whip-happy dude/dude-ette that's part of Darkseid's troupe.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Why doesn't Darkseid fight crime? He'd, like, just kill the joker, which would be, like, uh, realistic and stuff, and he'd have a 'tude and wouldn't take no shit.

Vic Fluro, Friday, 11 June 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ralph Dibny, Elongated Menace

xpost, Darkseid is above crime. He's all about the Anti-Life Equation, and occassionally making a booty call to Granny Goodness.

Huk-El (Horace Mann), Friday, 11 June 2004 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Fun fact: the voice of Granny Goodness in the new Cartoon Network JLA show is being provided by ED ASNER.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 11 June 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

THERE ACTUALLY IS A CHARACTER IN THE DC UNIVERSE CALLED GRANNY GOODNESS??????

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Welcome to the Kirbyverse, Dang. Would you like a side of Beautiful Dreamer to go with your Granny Goodness?

Not to be confused w/ the Red Skier, of course.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 11 June 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

My God. No wonder people like DC so much. It's like all of the po-faced absurdity that you can shake a stick it.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 June 2004 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Gorilla Grodd looks completely normal and reasonable next to Granny Goodness.

That might make me actually read IC.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

Identity Crisis didn't suck!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Teh aftermath, tho ... um ... well ...

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

I don't think Identity Crisis sucked either, but Archer's Quest was really good.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Yep! And getting that free w/ the purchase of TINY FOOTPRINTS is nice!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 17:38 (twenty years ago)

I didn't assume it sucked, but I was more interested in reading ABOUT it than actually reading it for some reason.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

I'd blame / thank Huk for that.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

I'm not even sure that means.
