I've gotta find a copy of that "TRAPPED BY THE JUSTICE LEAGUE" issue.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 1 May 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

"for uh... research purposes"

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 1 May 2006 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

its looks like Superman is talking to Liza minelli in the 2nd panel…

veronica moser (veronica moser), Monday, 1 May 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

Oh man, Lois Lane #111 is the bestest thing ever!!! I can't wait for Showcase Presents Superman Family to get to that stuff! It's from 1971 and it's a tie-in with Kirby's Forever People and Jimmy Olsen (though Kirby's got nothing to do with this story). And the ads are just MINDBLOWING: Aurora A/FX model cars; an inhouse for SOMETHING NEW IN COMICS, the HOUSE OF FORBIDDEN LOVE!; and $2 (plus 25c postage) HANDSOME REPRODUCTION T-SHIRTS of Action Comics #1! All this AND Rose & the Thorn!!!

ian @ laura's (laurah), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 00:00 (nineteen years ago)

How menacing and EVIL is that panel?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 00:51 (nineteen years ago)

OH MY GOD. That's....incredible.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 01:59 (nineteen years ago)

I like how it's Black Canary taking the iniative there. One imagines the next panel pulling out to reveal an enormous strap on.

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

Perhaps Suedey could draw a picture of ensuing events.

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 11:28 (nineteen years ago)

I was a Marvel Zombie growing up, so I don't know -- but I'm getting the picture that DC, for a few years there, was a big cauldron of badly repressed kink. (discus)

pixel farmer (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 12:00 (nineteen years ago)

If by "badly" you mean "hardly," then yes.

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

frederic wertham was right

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

I think Wertham was actually writing for DC by that time.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

Also, Werner Roth, who was drawing Lois Lane in the 70s, is amazing.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 3 May 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

This must be a SuperDickery Hall of Famer, but it's worth another look.

Wow, quite fancy Wonder Woman in that pic.

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, in the late 60s/early 70s, she lost her powers and dressed totally foxy.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:40 (nineteen years ago)

Hopefully that's what the new series will be like.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

Word to the million about Wonder Foxy.

c(''c) (Leee), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

I just love the way Superman is hanging back. In a Superman comic, he'd be all, "Ladies, please...there's no reason to resort to fisticuffs, I will simply devise a bizarre series of contests involving bad science and lame disguises by which neither of you will actually win, but you'll both learn a valuable lesson about working together." But this is a Lois Lane comic, where Superman is looked up far less sympathetically (check out the letters pages of old LL comics for heaps of Superscorn!), so he just grimaces.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, he really looks like he'd much rather be in the Fortress of Solitude watching the footie.

chap who would dare to be a nerd, not a geek (chap), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

Huk, can you show us some old LL letter columns?

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

What, you think I have nothing else going in my love that all I do is just watch Superfriends DVDs and scan Lois Lane comics?

Huk (the secret origin of Warlock Magazine Magazine)-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 19:43 (nineteen years ago)

This isn't about love, Huk.

I'm sure Green Arrow could think of a new way to do it, like dressing up as a native american and shouting at a man with enormous sideburns. On a yacht filled with 'fat cats' out for a 'good time' at the expense of the eco-warriors of the slums.

Vic F (Vic Fluro), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

So yeah, "the way she schemed to marry Jor-El and Bruce Wayne" can be taken in various ways, no?

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sure Green Arrow could think of a new way to do it, like dressing up as a native american and shouting at a man with enormous sideburns.

God, I loved that. Possibly the weirdest moment of the first Green Arrow/Green Lantern Travel Through America TPB, if it weren't for...

"I want to ask the ring-slinger a question, Mr.Green Arrow...I been readin' about you...how you work for the blue skins...and how on a planet somewhere you helped out the orange skins...and you done considerable for the purple skins! Only there's skins you never bothered with...the black skins! I want to know...how come?! Answer me THAT, Mr. Green Lantern!"

(crestfallen) "I...can't..."

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:02 (nineteen years ago)

I am now the proud owner of a CLASSIC SILVER AGE SUPERMAN SERIES LOIS LANE action figure. She's got that spicy little green dress/yellow cape ensemble one. hot shit.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Monday, 29 May 2006 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

See, now that's the whole thing that drove me crazy about Crisis/Infinite Crisis (not the whole thing, but a big thing). Their sainted Lois was SOOOO sexless in her purple frock. Disgusting! Lois is sooo sexy. "Golden Age" Lois especially. Stupid Johns and his fear of sexy grannies.
