52 WEEK #1 - With his supply of Gingold Juice dried up, will Ralph Dibny's sadface continue to be amusing?
SUPERMAN #652 - Ohhhh, there's going to be an angry engineer.
SHE-HULK 2 #7 - Hmmmm. Is this a Civil War monsterpiece?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 8 May 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

slowish week for me:
52 WEEK #1
SUPERMAN #652: Up Up and Away's getting progressively less exciting
ANNIHILATION SUPER SKRULL #2: They're releasing these four series in decreasing order of readability. Surfer's been good thus far, Skrull #1 was okay, Nova was thoroughly mediocre, and Ronan flat-out sucked. But I believe I'm in for good by this point.
SHE-HULK 2#7

chocolate kuegelhopf (Garrett Martin), Monday, 8 May 2006 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

52, Superman, X-Men Deadly Genesis, Uncanny X-Men

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 8 May 2006 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

I liked Ronan!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 8 May 2006 18:53 (nineteen years ago)

At this point I don't remember exactly why I disliked it, but it seemed like that first issue of Ronan was too removed from the Annihilation Day event. All the other series have been focused squarely on the Annihilation wave, whereas Ronan kinda meandered slowly towards it. Also the fact that it took place like forty-seven days later, or whatever, diffused the urgency present in the other titles.

for me

city of gyros (chaki), Monday, 8 May 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

for me: 52, Superman. And "The Fate of the Artist" is out!--though I've already read it. (Quite good.)

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 8 May 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

Damn! Hard to know which to get more excited about.

Vic F (Vic Fluro), Monday, 8 May 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

The Gold Foil cover! Duh.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 8 May 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

chaki, please be joking re: lady death

Superman
52
She-Hulk
super skrull (maybe)
and i gotta catch up on Planet Hulk, if I can find the issues around.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Monday, 8 May 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

i thought the first issue of super skrull was good at the time, but i can barely remember anything about it now. i picked it up at the suggestion of back issue dood at the comic shop.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Monday, 8 May 2006 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

The MileHighComics.com preview of SS #2 features Li'l Skrull holding a big gun.

I approve.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 8 May 2006 19:49 (nineteen years ago)

yes i joke.

city of gyros (chaki), Monday, 8 May 2006 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

I take yr point about Ronan not really fitting into the rest of annihilation, basically I liked it cos it's Simon Furman writing a solid Judge Dredd in the Cursed Earth story.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 8 May 2006 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

Batmaxx: Secrets
Ex Machina (maybe)
Fables
She-Hulk

And of course,

SCARLET WITCH BY ADAM HUGHES SIGNED FRAMED LITHO $299.99

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 8 May 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

Ex Machina (maybe)

Is there consensus that of BKV's creations, X-Machine is going through the driest patch right now?

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 8 May 2006 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

Superman and 52, although I've been Hitlering Annhilation, and it's not bad. At this point I'm quite happy for Superman to stay unexciting.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 8 May 2006 22:49 (nineteen years ago)

i don't like any BKV creations, so they're all parched to me!

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

I think Ex Machina is alright, but definitely the weakest of Vaughan's series in general.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 8 May 2006 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

i think his x-men stuff is probably his best work, to be honest.

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 01:53 (nineteen years ago)

I've said over and over that I'm not going to buy 52 because DC are greedy buttholes who couldn't be bothered to make the series somewhat more affordable...but now it's almost that time. And, dammit, I'm probably gonna start buying it. Dammit.

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 07:18 (nineteen years ago)

52 WEEK #1
ALBION #5
EX MACHINA #20
FABLES #49
JONAH HEX #7
SHE-HULK 2 #7

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 07:35 (nineteen years ago)

i going for 52, nightwing and fantastic four first family

really seems to be a quiet week for all of us

seems almost like marvel are deliberately trying to get people to try 52 whether this is a stupid/clever tactic time will tell

k

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

$130 for a years worth of a single comic is quite a bit of money.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

You're telling me...

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

But at least there'll be something YOU JUST HAVE TO READ every week (except the weeks where it's all about Ralph Dibny's Gingold Sadface).

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

...But of a comic where you get 4+ times as many issues as you ordinarily would?...

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

It's not that it's more expensive than any other book out there, but rather that my comics expenditure will be pretty much doubled every month if I start getting 52. And, until I'm no longer unemployed, that's probably not a good thing.

Of course, the smart thing to do would be to eschew comics altogether until I have a job. But fuck smart.

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

Deric, you should probably just download them online if you're broke and ambivalent.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

My feeling on 52 is that I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for a few issues, and if it grabs me, I'll go with it and if not, it's dropped.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

But really, if it weren't for the presence of Grant Morrison and Mark Waid, I wouldn't even consider it.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 17:58 (nineteen years ago)

I am hoping Giffen imposes his five-year-gap Legion 9-panel grid on all the artists.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 18:01 (nineteen years ago)

Apparently there is no 9 panel grid, but the pages are generally dense with panels.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

so is there going to be a trade every 6 weeks then?

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

official word is no trade until #53 comes out.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

its clever really cause once your a couple of months in it'll really need to go bad to make you stop buying it to make it not a waste of money...

its not got mini arcs within it has it?

secondhandnews (secondhandnews), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 21:05 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know, the way I think I'd feel like if it went bad, I'd want to cut my losses, I wouldn't really feel bad about the previous issues!

My feeling is the opposite - I think that it might get very good as the story goes on and the plot thickens, and when that happens I'd hate to hear about it and feel like I can't just jump into it.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, there's a really weird thing in the most recent issue of Legion where The Dominators are going "remember the 52," and if this 52 thing is building up to some kind of Dominator invasion of Earth, I TOTALLY WANT IN ON THAT!

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

So Grant Morrison is actually writing some of it? Any idea how much?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

The four of them write it together, so any given issue will feature bits from Morrison, Waid, Johns, and Rucka. Some issues may lean in the favor of someone or other, but the whole thing is plotted and written as a group project, not unlike a tv show.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 9 May 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe we can make a game of it, "spot the unbearably awful bit that Geoff Johns wrote by himself," etc.
