Jordan, you should buy / read Fell, even if / since your Madolan is already hooked into the EllRSS feed.

First four pages of the above WTF?? at the bottom of the 5/17 Mile High Comics First Look.

PWAAAKK

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Monday, 15 May 2006 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think that's the confirmed list yet.
Is Krazy & Ignatz hot? My friendly neighbourhood bookstore is shutting its doors (REAL LIFE SADFACE) and they've got one of the K&I collections, and things are priced to MOVE. I should buy it, shouldn't I?

Warlock Magazine (Warlock Magazine), Monday, 15 May 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

Douglas, I went to see this exhibit over the weekend -- first time I really appreciated Krazy Kat (though not as much as the Winsor McCay stuff, and of course KIRBY).

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 15 May 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

52 WEEK #2: I missed all the Crises. Did they ever show Booster grieve over Beatle anywhere?
AQUAMAN SWORD OF ATLANTIS #42: Not on my pull list, but still slightly intriguing thus far.
ANNIHILATION NOVA #2
CAPTAIN AMERICA #18
X-MEN #186: this Apocalypse story has been truly awful thus far, but might as well pick up the conclusion. Milligan's really let me down on this one.

and hells yes, buy that Krazy Kat book, Warlock.

chocolate kuegelhopf (Garrett Martin), Monday, 15 May 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

Warlock, let's put it this way: I have one tattoo, and it's the brick from Krazy Kat in flight. K&I is one of those things that is pretty labor-intensive to read, and if you just read one or two you'll probably scratch your head, but the more of them you read the better they get.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 15 May 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

the finalized list: http://www.diamondcomics.com/shipping/shipping_051706.txt

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 15 May 2006 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 15 May 2006 19:42 (nineteen years ago)

Whoa, I missed the Y The Last Man trade - I'll have to get on that too.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 15 May 2006 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

Castle Waiting.

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 01:45 (nineteen years ago)

which I won't see until next week at least

but! I did go to the comic shop at lunch yesterday and buy 2.2kg of '80s comics! all 50c, except a spare copy of the issue of A1 with the Gaiman/Kelley Jones story about Betty Page, which was $4 and I'll probably give away next week.

and! I went back today and bought another 3.9kg from the 50c boxes, including Lew Str!nger's Br!ckman on Harr!er with strips by Gibbons and O'Neill and intro by Moore, and an Elementals with awesome Adam Hughes cover of spandex chick beating up Saddam Hussein. None more jingoistic!

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

52 Week 2. And that's it.

Do you see? This is a week I could've totally skipped out on comics altogether. And now they've got me sucked in every week. Very canny, DC. I still doubt that I'll buy anything else once I'm there, though.

I stopped getting X-Men when my store stopped stocking it months ago. No, you did not misread that: my dumbass store doesn't order enough copies of one of the flagship X-titles for the shelf. Because Milligan doesn't sell. From the mouth of the owner.

I think I've decided that I'm waiting on the Krazy & Ignatz hardcovers from now on. I bought the first four softcovers as they dropped and only then discovered Fanta's HC plan. Bastards. So now I'm semi-regularly monitoring the FBI site to make sure the V2 HC doesn't go out of print before I can afford to buy it. If they're only coming out every several years, I think I can justify dropping $75 a pop on a few nice-ass hardcovers.

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going to beat Warlock to the closing down bookstore this afternoon and buy that K&I (i think it's a hardcover) out from under him. There's a bunch of other indie stuff there, but I feel woefully out of my element, even though I'm sure I'd like it, but, like HOW TO CHOOSE? Maybe I'll just ask the bookseller for a surprise bag, like you used to get at the candy store when there was still a candy store (there are no stores in my town anymore).

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

It's probably not the hardcover - that contains five paperbacks' worth of pages (literally, they printed extra and saved them) and is only available direct from Fanta.

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 22:56 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, I grinned at the BIG FUCK-OFF 6 PAGE BATCAVE SPLASH.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:35 (nineteen years ago)

So, what, has 20 minutes elapsed since the first issue?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

Yes.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 23:06 (nineteen years ago)

I thought Fell was a bit of a let down. We've already had a few issues of Detective Fell doing the whole "talk your way out of this dangerous situation involving a possibly homicidal dude" thing. I want more Mayko, and that sub plot gets only the most minute advancement this issue. Also, more grizzly improbable-but-terrifying deaths please. The backmatter in this was great, though. I wanna read the Specter a lot now.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

st. mark's was out of Captain America, so I have to wait until I see Laura to get it. If I can't wait I maybe go get it tomorrow morning.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 23:19 (nineteen years ago)

I read BIG MAX tonight. It was Slottilicious.

Also got Palomar, which looks like a good couple weeks of bedtime reading.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 May 2006 00:01 (nineteen years ago)

Milligan's last issue of X-Men was really really bad, almost entirely incoherant. That is only partially Larocca's fault.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

Who's picking up next month, Matthew?

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, PM didn't exactly go out w/ a bang (tho I'm basing this on previous issues). Not that he necessarily came in w/ one. Or did any banging in between.

xpost: MIKE CAREY! Which you might think is ungh, given he's the Lucifer guy. But if you check out his Ultimate FF (#19-20, + the UFF/UXM 2-part one-shot fiesta), you might be surprised.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

(though only if you've not read Lucifer, which is great)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

True.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

I have no idea why I actually picked up that X-Men issue. When they asked if I wanted bags and boards I was unnecessarily negative. Probably because I realized I'd want to use it as a coaster or placemat later.

mike h. (mike h.), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

It also looked like Diamond shorted the shop I went to on pretty much everything they ordered except for that all-star Batman thing. I think there were a few hundred copies that took up about a third of the new issues rack.

mike h. (mike h.), Thursday, 18 May 2006 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

52 WEEK #2 - Did anyone count how many pieces of underwear were strewn around Montoya's apt.? GET ONE (1) HAMPER, RENEE. B+
ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN THE BOY WONDER #4 - Apparantly, DC used up their panty quotient in 52. (transcends grades)
BATMAN YEAR ONE HUNDRED #4 (OF 4) - saving it for tonight.
DC NEW FRONTIER POSTER - fuck! didn't get it.
GREEN ARROW #62 - Best issue in about 2 yrs. Though, if you're going to have a splash page of two faces in profile, don't get Scott McDaniels to draw it. Or conversely, if you're going to have Scott McDaniels draw yr comic, don't make draw a splash page of two faces in profile. B-
SUPERMAN BATMAN #25 - I have no idea what just happened. God, this has been an infuriating comic. Aside from the constant shipping delays, it also has had the gall to be extreme fun and disgustingly panderish at the same time. For every Batzarro, there's been, um, 250 pages of Batman and Superman making googoo eyes at each other. B+
CAPTAIN AMERICA #18 - saving it for tonight.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 18 May 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

I think I've acclimated to ASB&RtBW's terribleness style to the point where it's just hilarious.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

I just can't believe that I'm buying ASB&RTBW and reading ASS.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

batzarro!?!?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

http://batzarro.livejournal.com/

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

that page sucks.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

You am not intrigued? You go check out, unless you not like having money spent on Batwang / Superming caption-box love hump.

Davezarro (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

Did anyone count how many pieces of underwear were strewn around Montoya's apt.?

I think just two? the (padded?) bra on the floor near the closet and the pink thongy thing that Question sniffs. aside from what the ladies were wearing, of course.

also, most ladies i know do not sleep in sexy matching lingerie sets. DC , why are you so afraid of tasteful nudity?

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

Addendum question: why are you so NOT afraid of bloody head-bursting punches?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, so the Krazy & Ignatz thing at the closing down bookstore (which is probably only closing because over the last two yrs all my reading budget has gone to funnybooks instead of funny books) was the 35-36 Sunday color comics. So far I've only made it through the intro essay by Jeet Heer. I'm agog, though.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 19 May 2006 04:51 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone glance through Ghost Rider this week? And can someone explain?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:38 (nineteen years ago)

(Sorry, I meant Moon Knight)

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 19 May 2006 08:38 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't buy it because I found the first issue so much of a pain to read. Should I have gotten it? Maybe i'll flip through it? there was... too much interior monologue. way too much. IIRC.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Friday, 19 May 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

Batman: Year 100 #4: Hey, hey. Reg'lar continuity Batman needs some falsies. Totally satisfying-qua-unsatisfying resolution. Sequel seems possible, though unnecessary. Why can't reg'lar continuity Batman be this good? A+

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 19 May 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

Should I have gotten it?

No! I was just shocked how violent it was. It really ups the ante on the old Psycho Pirate eyeball-punching. Really bleccch. I was wondering if anyone else thought that or if I'm just being atypically sensitive.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 19 May 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

OK, for anybody who's even vaguely interested, the Jack Staff that came out this week stars Alan Moore (in the comic, not as a guest writer) and has him nearly breaking into the stoning sketch from 'Life Of Brian' at one point. I read it out in his voice for extra roffles.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 20 May 2006 09:04 (nineteen years ago)

Morlan's a previously-existing JS character

kit brash (kit brash), Saturday, 20 May 2006 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

Chuck, it was ridiculously violent, especially for a Marvel spandex comic.

Spoiler (in case anyone cares) : flashback to Moon Knight fighting Bushman on a generic rooftop, lots of blood, Bushman eventually forcing him to fall off the rooftop, smashing his knees on impact with generic alley. Bushman comes to finish him off and bites off half of his mask, to which Moon Knight responds by cutting off Bushman's face with a throwing moon and waving it at the sky above Bushman's now skinless skull. Nice. All depicted with absolute relish, is the thing...

David N (David N.), Saturday, 20 May 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

Paging Dr. Wertham.

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Saturday, 20 May 2006 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

Shadowpact 1: Complete lack of characterisation, chunky unappealing art (bring back brasilian footballer sounding Justiniano pls!), generic non-introduced gang of villains like one of those rub x-man villain teams that chris claremont used to introduice every other week, complete lack of the je ne sais quoi that made Day of Vengeance quite fun, despite the ridiculous plot. Dud

Manhunter #whatever: Cancellation is now looming, there is a rubbish computer come to life villain for no apparent reason and another exceedingly rubbish brand new villain - um hello, Sweeney Todd didn't go round slashing women for being harlots! ffs! Meanwhile Dr Midnite does Kate's paternity test. I'm sure the premier doctor stroke surgeon in the entire DCU has nothing better to do than act as a LAB TECHNICIAN!!! The Dr Psycho storyline is still ok but is relegated to about 2 pages in this issue. Dud

52 #2: The plot thickens. I like the stuff with Ralph, Renee and the Question and the abducted evil genius plot might be alright, but I still am not bothered re Booster Gold and his annoying robot sidekick. "Well done, Bigtrack!" etc. Pass.
