Memorial Day Holiday notes:

U.S. will receive their comics on Thursday, June 1st
UK will also have a 24 hr. delay to Friday, June 2nd.

No delays for Canadian, or International shipments.

Here's the ungainly Midtown version. The Diamond list doesn't seem to be up yet, but when it is, it should be here.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 29 May 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

the thing
inevitable iron man
black gas #3

another big-ish week for me.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Monday, 29 May 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

Superfunstuffonly, thanks!

52 Week #4 - More Donna Troy cosmic ass shots, pls.
Crisis Aftermath The Spectre #1 - Oh, Pembleton, put a shirt on!
JLA Classified #21 - Ho, ho, comic nerds in "hypothetical woman" shocka!
Seven Soldiers Of Victory Vol 3 TP - who's the fool, now?
Showcase Presents Haunted Tank Vol 1 TP - oh yeah

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 29 May 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

for me:

52 #4--thrill-powah!
Action Comics #839--although it's now fairly clear where the story's going
Seven Soldiers Vol. 3 TPB--you'd think they'd wait until SS#1 is done, but noooo
Age of Bronze #23--I STILL wonder why this isn't a giganto hit
Queen & Country #30--oh, that's still being published...?

I am officially giving up on Apocalypse Nerd, and cannot bring myself to be interested in Crisis Aftermath: The Spectre.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 29 May 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

Lucifer (penultimate issue, yes?)
Thong
Runaways

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 29 May 2006 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

52 and Action Comics and I'll wait for the collected of Age of Bronze. 52 better not have peaked already...

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 29 May 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

I think there will be many peaks and valleys along Highway 52.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 29 May 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

oh, action comics for me too.. missed that in the list.

queen & country is published so irregularly that i find it easier to follow in trades.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Monday, 29 May 2006 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

Same here, likewise w/Age of Bronze.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 29 May 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

Queen & Country reads better in trades, too! Rucka doesn't even bother trying to recap stuff in previous issues.

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 29 May 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

Douglas NOO! Apocalypse Nerd is worth it just for Founding Fathers Funnies.

Just that for me.

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 29 May 2006 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

and to address something from upthread:
Douglas, I think it oughtta be pretty obvious why Age of Bronze isn't a giganto hit? Comics in being disinterested into highbrow historical fiction non-shockah. I like reading the issues, though. That way there's a letters column.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Monday, 29 May 2006 21:37 (nineteen years ago)

52, Action Comics, Runaways, and Scott Pilgrim vol 2 and 3.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 29 May 2006 21:37 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah yeah I know--I guess Age of Bronze doesn't grab people on a casual browse, & it takes some time to sit down and read--but the writing and the art are SO good, and it's SO edge-of-seat exciting... despite the endless wait between issues...

This reminds me, also: Chaki, if you're reading this, did you end up picking up the first Scott Pilgrim? What'd you think, if you did?

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 29 May 2006 22:42 (nineteen years ago)

52 Week #4
Action Comics #839
Lucifer #74
Godland #11
Books of Doom #6
Runaways Vol 2 #16
Thing #7
Ultimate Extinction #5 - Holy crap!
Warren Ellis Black Gas #3 Wraparound Cvr

With three ending and two one issue away, I feel much better slightly less bad about the fact that I have 11 titles to add to my pull list.

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 02:11 (nineteen years ago)

OMG I love the smell of new Showcase Presents!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 June 2006 01:05 (nineteen years ago)

CANADA SUCKSADA

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 1 June 2006 01:29 (nineteen years ago)

Spectre Begins #1: Not so bad. Tasty Cliff Chiang art, a perfectly forgivable OYL/52 inconsistency (forgivable since this seems to be ITS OWN story, whew), and a very smooth transition from Gotham Central to GOD Central. Biggest disappointment: Didn't borrow the Kay Howard line that I'm 98% sure popped in Gotham Central at one point, "Homicide: We work for God." B+
JLA: Classified #21: Wasn't really sure who was narrating until nearly the end--kinda thought it was the Flash based on the colour scheme, but didn't seem likely given the context--and the art sure crapped out by the end, even though the writing paid off at last (which had been a worry over the last few issues). C
Superman/Batman #26: Not nearly as mawkishly sentimental as I'd feared. Some really, really fantastic art in some place, some L!3fe1d art in others. Way too many scripters who couldn't resist loading each page with banter. Which was sorta the point, but they made it early and should have eased up. B
52 #4: Another issue, another Donna Troy cosmic ass shot. B+

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 June 2006 01:42 (nineteen years ago)

I also bought my first longbox in 15 yrs.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 June 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

Action Comics #839: Uh oh, Lex Luthor's seen Superman II. And Superman RETURNS (what a strange and unexpected convergence!)! The art is NOT by Pete Woods, but it's still really, really good. Great, terrific fun! A

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 June 2006 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

I also bought my first longbox in 15 yrs.

Dude, you must have had a LOT of comics lying around.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 1 June 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

My original longbox had been emptied out, so not as many as you'd think--and I didn't buy ANY comics between 1991 and 2003, but also, yeah. I got some organizing to do.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

Do IKEA do longboxes?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

Yes. It is called Gorto.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 1 June 2006 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

hey i got scott pilgrims but havent read them yet! Huk is right about Action Comics this issue was fuckin rad!

chaki (chaki), Friday, 2 June 2006 04:25 (nineteen years ago)

i'm still in two minds abt the Haunted Tank Showcase - really wish it was a U.S.S. Stevens collection instead

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Friday, 2 June 2006 06:40 (nineteen years ago)

Was this week's Superman/Batman the "Jeph Loeb's son" issue? What did they do with that, exactly? And are the proceeds going somewhere other than DiDio's pocket?

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 2 June 2006 07:16 (nineteen years ago)

Gonna hit the store in a few hours, and should be getting these:

52 #4
Action Comics #839
Ion #2
Amazing Spider-Man #532
The Thing #7

and if'n I weren't flat broke probably a trade or two.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Friday, 2 June 2006 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

Do IKEA do longboxes?
-- Chuck_Tatum (pj.isaac...), June 1st, 2006. (later)

Yes. It is called Gorto.
-- Pete (pb1...), June 1st, 2006. (later)

And if you don't add "klaatu barada nikto", it comes to life and emits laser beams.

scamperingalpaca (Chris Hill), Friday, 2 June 2006 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

Bareman, I expect a report on ION post haste!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

i thought the endings to both inevitable iron man and JLA classified were both a bit weak. though this is probably going to be the kind of thing where i re-read the arc/series in quick succession and re-evaluate that.

i really liked Thing; big fan of both Puppetmaster and Hercules.

planet hulk continues to blow my mind.

enjoyed action comics; it's got a very good sort of perpetual forward motion to it that keeps me engaged. very much looking forward to the superman-luthor confrontration/climax of next issue.

black gas had a great ending. i like how the story is really nothing more than "two twenty-somethings trying to fool around in a cabin in the woods getting attacked by zombies." warren ellis clearly enjoys writing something so simplistic. see also: Wolfskin!

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

A percentage of proceeds from the Superman/Batman all-star jam go to a scholarship fund for Loeb's kid's high school.

Ion was okay. I'm glad I'm not buying, but I don't feel resentful about the time I've lost reading.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

Showcase Presents the Haunted Tank: OKAY WE GET IT, IT'S AN M-3 WITH A .37 CALIBRE GUN, what are you writing for kids or something?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 2 June 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

So the tank's haunted by JEB Stuart, right? That mean it's all racist and shit? Would he have a problem with the Tuskeegee Airmen?

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Friday, 2 June 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Thing was great, although the "getting the girl" part was kinda random. I feel bad for the non-Thing dude.

Lucifer was good, but I think it was drawing on a lot of earlier references that I don't get (having only read, you know, the last thirty or forty issues).

Runaways was Runaways (i.e. pretty great).

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 2 June 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, did Thing get the girl? I thought it was a Casablanca-type situation. I also thought it was incredibly light, and while I respect Dan Slott for trying something in a register that you don't see any more, I'm not surprised it's tanking.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 2 June 2006 14:21 (nineteen years ago)

from wiki: In the comic, the ghost of General Stuart didn't initially care for his assignment at first, but became reconciled to it when the tank commander, Sergeant Jeb Stuart, honored him by placing a flag of the Confederacy on the tank

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 2 June 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

JEB lucked out. Stonewall Jackson's stuck haunting a bumper car.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Friday, 2 June 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

Indigent no more! Now that I'm a working stiff, I promptly splurged on So7diers v.2 in addition to picking up Runaways!

c(''c) (Leee), Friday, 2 June 2006 23:27 (nineteen years ago)

i splurged OUT this week cuz i hadn't bought comix in a long time + stressful week deserves rewards!!

(nothing particularly new tho)
