This could be a loooooooong thread, between MF DOOM, Del, Cannibal Ox, blahblahblah.

But just for grins: The Last Emperor's "Secret Wars" posits an earth shattering battle between his favorite emcees and a bunch of marvel duders.

Yeah, I know. Ghostface himself is a page and a half (aka Tony Starks). Maybe A Catalogue of SURPRISING comic book references?

I've been trying to think of an MF DOOM track without a comix ref in it (not including his name.)

No dice yet.

"...I fought fear with the hammer Thor lent me."

-from Edan's "Promised Land" (which is very much a superhero song). Admittedly, there's enough leeway here that one could argue that the reference could be a direct take from Norse mythology rather than Stan and Jack, but I like to think otherwise.

To get out the most obvious ones:

Well, I was walking home late one afternoon
A reporter stopped me for an interview
She said she's heard stories and she's heard fables
That I'm vicious on the mic and the turntable
This young reporter I did adore,
So I rocked some vicious rhymes like I never did before
She said, "Damn, fly guy, I'm in love with you
The Casanova legend must have been true"
I said, "By the way, baby, what's your name?"
Said, "I go by name of Lois Lane
And you could be my boyfriend, you surely can,
Just let me quit my boyfriend called Superman."
I said, "He's a fairy, I do suppose
Flyin' through the air in pantyhose
He may be very sexy, or even cute,
But he looks like a sucker in a blue and red suit,"
I said, "You need a man man who's got finesse
And his whole name across his chest
He may be able to fly all through the night,
But can he rock a party 'til the early light?
He can't satisfy you with his little worm,
But I can bust you out with my super sperm!"

Sugarhill Gang: "Rapper's Delight"

Terrorize the jam like troops in Pakistan
Swingin through your town like your neighborhood Spiderman.

Wu-Tang Clan: "Protect ya neck"

The Finnish rap duo Fintelligens has a song called "Ryhmä F", which refers to the Finnish name of the X-Men, "Ryhmä X". In it they imagine themselves as discriminated rap mutants, fighting against haters and people who pirate their music.

three weeks pass...
Ghostface DEFINITELY mentions his TIME BUBBLE (though maybe he's just a Rip Hunter fan).

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

can anyone think of other DC references in Wu-stuff ever? he could just be sci-fi rambling.

Admittedly, there's enough leeway here that one could argue that the reference could be a direct take from Norse mythology rather than Stan and Jack, but I like to think otherwise.

The same applies for "The Battle for Asgard" by Cannibal Ox.

'Molecule Man, now all of you stand' (I think that's what it is) also in that Del & Dinosaur Jr song

Eyemelt (Eyemelt), Saturday, 1 July 2006 09:51 (nineteen years ago)

Pharoah Moench has, 'no shit Sherlocke/you can't see me, like Matt Murdoch' on his new song. I thought that was cute.
