Motherfucker.
My stoopid comic shop doesn't stock AP, and they never order the crap I ask for.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Sunday, 4 June 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

Wednesday is the 7th!

c(''c) (Leee), Sunday, 4 June 2006 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

That's what I typed, if you'll notice!

;)

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 4 June 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

It's one of those time-traveling paradoxes!

c(''c) (Leee), Sunday, 4 June 2006 18:02 (nineteen years ago)

Is the thread title some sort of reference to it being a loooong night, but it'll be aaaall right, on the night ship?

Jack K, he was a friend of mine etc

Vic F (Vic Fluro), Sunday, 4 June 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

YES TO ACTION PHILOSOPHERS!!!! GREAT COMIC!!

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Sunday, 4 June 2006 22:08 (nineteen years ago)

The list is up: http://www.diamondcomics.com/shipping/shipping_060706.txt

For me:

52 Week 5 (actually read it already! it's fun!)
Hard Time Season Two #7 (final issue; #6 was pretty insane, and this one supposedly happens 49 years later)
Civil War Front Line #1 (actually just because it sounds SO dodgy I'm wondering if there's something secretly fun about it)
Action Philosophers Vol. 1 (okay, y'all convinced me)
Luba's Comics and Stories #8 (Hernandez = BUY)

And if I make it to the comics store before I have to take my plane flight, I might get one of those mega-huge Superman books just to have something substantial to read.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 5 June 2006 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, bologna. All Star Chin is pushed back to the 21st.

c(''c) (Leee), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

52 WEEK #5 - Giant-sized Hawk-Thing!
DETECTIVE COMICS #820 - Is this thing ENDING soon?
ROCKETO JOURNEY TO THE HIDDEN SEA #9 - OH YEAH (you're not reading this, Douglas?) This is like, the third issue in like 2 months. OH YEAH!
CIVIL WAR FRONT LINE #1 (OF 10) - I suck.
WIZARD BEST OF BASIC TRAINING STORYTELLING - OHYEAHOHYEAHOHYEAHOHYEAH
ACTION PHILOSOPHERS VOL 1 GIANT SIZED THING TP - In the unlikely event that my comic shop gets it in.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

the slowness:
52 #5
ROCKETO #9
ANNIHILATION: SILVER SURFER #3
CIVIL WAR FRONTLINE #1
FANTASTIC FOUR FIRST FAMILY #4

although I too have a flight on Wednesday, and will probably not be able to make it by the store.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Hard Time is pretty under-loved, I reckon, even on this board!

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

ROCKETO JOURNEY TO THE HIDDEN SEA #9 ... This is like, the third issue in like 2 months. OH YEAH!

Maybe too much Rocketo? I definitely dig the art, but the story's still slacking. And typos are still all over the place.

This is like early '90's Marvel, when Captain America and Spider-Man and all the X-books would go bi-weekly during the summer.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I need to check out the nu-Gerber shizz. I also heard that Gerber might be doing more DC work in the future! Hott!

Why are all you plebes buying FRONTLINE? For God's sake DON'T DO IT! JUST SAY NO (MORE J3NK!NS)!

As for Rocketo, I've taken to looking @ the pretty art & not paying much mind to the bad spellingtization.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

there's a story?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

(I'm not really getting FRONTLINE, right? I think I'm maybe even not getting Civil War anymore either)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

ah, I'll give the first issue a shot. Hopefully it'll at least make me laugh.

also, I didn't know it started this week, and since I have Civil War on my list and never specifically asked for Frontline to be excluded, I'm assuming they'll just throw it on in there.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

Batman: Secrets
Y
Walking Dead
Luba

Doug, I finally finished Palomar, so now I need to clean up the stuff inbetween that and The Book of Ofelia!

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

Oh man. I _think_ that's "Love & Rockets X," "Poison River," a chunk of about 40 pages at the end of "Luba Conquers the World," and "Luba in America." Also, a number of characters who have since entered Gilbert's post-Palomar continuity first showed up in his XXX-rated "Birdland."

I've got the Rocketo TPB here, and really need to read it.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

52
detective comix
batman secrets
friendly neighborhood
civil war thing
luba's

chaki (chaki), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe too much Rocketo?

I think probably Espinosa got ahead (or more precisely, maintained his pace) throughout the publisher brouhaha and I don't really mind, since I read so many comics that have no value whatsoever story- or art-wise that it's nice to have something satisfying as often as possible.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 5 June 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

52, JSA and Y on my pull list. Maybe Wonder Woman, and probably F4 First Family and Luba will join them.

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Monday, 5 June 2006 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

Rocketo - I think we're all just so used to the really good stuff suffering from endless delays that its shocking when something this good actually makes it out regularly..

David N (David N.), Monday, 5 June 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

this is beyond regularly, though.
image should hire me as a proof reader, also.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Monday, 5 June 2006 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

52 - Week 5
probably a back issue or two of the recent IRON MAN: THE INEVITABLE thing done by Casey/Irving - I picked up the first two on discount last week and was pleasantly surprised.
and
SHARKNIFE, presuming my retailer FINALLY has gotten my special order in yet.

Richard Baez (Johnny Logic), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

I really like Hard Time. I'm surprised this is going to be the last issue - were sales much worse than Season 1?

Does anyone have any sense of how much input Gerber's co-writer has?

The Yellow Kid, Tuesday, 6 June 2006 02:58 (nineteen years ago)

I think they gave it a "Season 2" because people thought it had potential & got ignored because it was part of that godawful batch of DC Focus series, but as of Season 2 #5 it's selling an estimated 8,331 copies. Which is just embarrassing: the only worse-selling DC titles that month (according to http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=005196 ) are Batman Strikes! (which mostly sells on newsstands anyway), Swamp Thing (cancelled), Winter Men, Thunderbolt Jaxon (both miniseries) and a few Cartoon Network/Johnny DC titles that are also mostly for the newsstand market. Blood of the Demon, also cancelled, sold 13,091 copies, for comparison.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 03:59 (nineteen years ago)

Gerber's co-writer = mary skrenes, who also co-wrote Omega the Unknown w/SG - afaik, it's a proper writing 50-50 partnership, tho' who does what exactly has always been a bit of a mystery

i'm glad to see that Gerber is still writing but he hasn''t written a truly GREAT comic since...Void Indigo?

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 06:10 (nineteen years ago)

Whoa, this is the worst week in a quite a while. Just 52, and I think I'll just wait and get 5 and 6 next week and instead just buy something at MOCCA over the weekend instead.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't read any Winter Men since #2, I'm still buying them, but I'm waiting for, I don't know what I'm waiting for. It's really good, though.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

Huk-L - I'd say read it - any comic where the central characters manage to steal a table from a McDonald's is certainly above average.

Richard Baez (Johnny Logic), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, I'm excited to read it, I'm just hesitant because I don't want to get caught up in something when the next issue might not ever come out.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

They're coming! All eight! Keep your borscht warm!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

Don't fuck me in my warm spot!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

What I got:

52 #4: Lotsa Newbile Teen Titan flesh; a new artist, who seems to be adhering to Giffen's style a bit; look out, I've got yr nose! and eyes!; Maggie Sawyer has a superpower! B
Detective Comics #720: Wow, this is some really sweet, if sub-Bollandish, art. James Robinson needs to right a big fat Roy Thomas-sized essay in the letters col about why I should give ONE shit about Jason Bard. B
Action Philosophers Giant Size Thing #1: Awesome. A

No Rocketo? (did anybody else get theirs?) But I did get Essential Hulk Vol. 1. I wanted to get EssFF, but they only had from 2 up. In fact, the only other vol 1 Essential they had was Godzilla. And maybe Avengers or Defenders or both.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 8 June 2006 00:56 (nineteen years ago)

no rocketo here either; it's not on the midtown list either.

i thought 52 was "just alright." it pains me so much to see the gotham central characters portrayed this way, it really does. still don't care much abt steel, and when do we get more Ralph Dibny in Wonderland?

If I drop this after two months if it doesn't improve, will it make me a sucker?

Thought Wonder Woman was decent. Will buy again.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Thursday, 8 June 2006 05:00 (nineteen years ago)

I can't wait to see Ralph's diary this week! I wonder what kind of sub he was eating.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 8 June 2006 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

Why did you compel me start buying Rocketo? Have you any idea how hard it is to get back issues? I hope you're proud of yourselves...

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Friday, 9 June 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

THERE ARE NO BACK ISSUES, get the trade.
Seriously, there is no Rocketo #6 (and maybe no #5?).

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 9 June 2006 13:54 (nineteen years ago)

I managed to get hold of 2 and 4 and have given up hope of seeing anything else below 7. You're a big buncha bastards for recommending this thus giving me something else to obssess about.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Friday, 9 June 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think I can overstate how amazed I am that I really enjoyed Wonder Woman #1. It's the first time I've ever enjoyed reading a comic featuring the character in over 20 years of reading comics! I'm looking forward to the next issue. DC, wtf are you doing to me???

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

Damn - I'll have to look into that now.

I was quite surprised by how much I was entertained by this week's 52 - Ellen's resolve, Booster snarking at Skeets in his one panel appearance, and the amusing awkwardness of the Steel/Mid-nite/Alan Scott hospital scene. Plus this line, which left me extremely amused:

BUDDY: You know, what if my wife and kids think I'm dead and throw out all my stuff?

Richard Baez (Johnny Logic), Friday, 9 June 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

Action Philoz has at least as many typos as Rocketo!
