Diamond's delayed until tomorrow, but Midtown is up.

For me:
52 Week 6 (maybe we'll find out why the PRC superhero is wearing a Tibetan symbol)
Can't Get No (Rick Veitch thing, I'm curious)
Ex Machina Special #2 (normally I'd wait for the trade, but I enjoyed the first one here)
Superman #653 (even though it's now VERY clear where this is going)
Mage Vol. 2 TP (only read the first couple, but I want to read the whole story at once)
Civil War #2 (this damn well better be as shocking as they're saying)
Tales of Woodsman Pete (actually I bought this already this weekend at MoCCA)

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 12 June 2006 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

Hmmm. I may wait and buy some of this next week, but intend to get:

52, Civil War, Superman, Ex Machina Special, Ultimate X-Men.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 12 June 2006 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

Hey Douglas, what was that one thing you showed me with the character dying horribly on every page? (Not Infinite Crisis.)

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 12 June 2006 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

If the Civil Shocker's connected to what happened in the latest surprisingly enjoyable issue of Amazing Spidey-Angst, then HOWDY PETER PARKER.

xpost: Bloodstrike?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 12 June 2006 16:59 (nineteen years ago)

Matthew--that was Mister I, by Lewis Trondheim, which NBM is publishing later this year. It's a sequel to Mister O--actually Mister O was way funnier...

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

52 Week #6 - SuperSinoSquad!
Green Arrow #63 - Ask not at whom THE FINGER points, for THE FINGER POINTS at thee!
Green Lantern Corps #1 - COMES WITH FREE POWER RING (and Patrick Gleason art!)
Superman #653 - Yup.
Superman Returns Lex Luthor Bust - Upon which I will rest the curly red toupé I stole from Gene Hackman's house last summer.
Rocketo Journey To The Hidden Sea #9 - FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH TWELVE MINNITS AGO: "rock-etto, like it's Italian"
Civil War #2 - Um, more oily eyes, please!
Marvel Westerns Two-Gun Kid - Dan Slott + Eduardo Barretto people!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

Fables (double size!!)
Two-Gun Kid

Maybe I'll check for the Rocketo trade since it's a light week.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

52
Supes
GL Corps
Cant Get No
ROCKETTOOO
Civil War
Flaming Carrot TPB

¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ (chaki), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

Superman #653: Quite boring now -- shame.
52 #6: Looks fun, but I'm still not sure about the "Boy, those sinister Chinese like to procreate" aspect. Maybe it will be... tasteful.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

...Seven Soldiers #1 next week!

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

ARE YOU POSTING FROM THE DISTANT FUTURE, CHUCK?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

Rocketo

civil war

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Monday, 12 June 2006 18:39 (nineteen years ago)

B...b...but DC's website says SS#1 is out on June 21... It must be true!

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 12 June 2006 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

JH WILLIAMS SEZ:
"hey all, just wanted to pipe in here and give my two cents for what it's worth. i apologize that seven soldiers has gotten so screwed up. the script wasn't fully ready until recently and i needed to have some work so i did a single issue for detective. i know that DC has solicited the following issue of detective as me doing that as well. however that is wrong info. i had to finish the 821 issue of detective while waiting on script for seven soldiers. that came in while working on detective so now i am fully working on seven soldiers fulltime. but one of the other reasons it will take so long is that it will be a monster of a task. the issue is loaded with all kinds of stuff that is taking some serious care from the drawing side of things. hopefully you will all see what i mean when the issue does make it to your book shelf. i will be returning to batman stuff when seven soldiers finally wraps"

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 12 June 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

ergo SEPTEMBER

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 12 June 2006 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

Cripes.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Monday, 12 June 2006 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

Jesus wept, that's a long time to wait.

I guess I'm just getting 52 this week. I really really really really want to get Can't Get No, but I'm way too broke to justify it. I've been waiting so long for it to come out though. Solo Veitch! His first since, what, the end of Rare Bit Fiends?

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 12 June 2006 22:37 (nineteen years ago)

52 Week #6
Ex Machina Special #2
Fables #50
Green Arrow #63
Four #30
Ultimate X-Men #71

HOORAY SAYS MY WALLET. I may have to order another couple of volumes of Spirit Archive to keep it in practice.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 07:05 (nineteen years ago)

Erm... What Rocketo trade?

And wasn't #9 out last week?..That's when I bought it.

Stone Monkey (Stone Monkey), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

yay new she-hulk graphs novs

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

Ward OTM

Solo Veitch! His first since, what, the end of Rare Bit Fiends?

Didn't he do the second Heroica linking one-shot after RBF? Most of the Greyshirt mini was written and drawn by him, though ok coloured and lettered by others. Guest artists don't count because Rare Bit Fiends had them too!

(DC have probably forced a letterer on him for Can't Get No anyway.)

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 11:55 (nineteen years ago)

rocketo 9 did not appear at my shop this past week, sadly. midtown sez this week?

Image did a trade that reprints the first six rocketo issues!

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

IT'S A FACT: Speakeasy Comics only published FOUR issues of Rocketo before imploding; you'll have to buy the TPB to read #5 and #6!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:20 (nineteen years ago)

Pronunciation: Rockette-O, Rocket-O, or Rockeet-O?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH TWELVE MINNITS AGO: "rock-etto, like it's Italian"

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

Huk is leveraging his publishing empire to get serious facetime w/ superstars!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

I hates transcribing interviews. I need to learn shorthand.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, thanks Huk.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

I'd totally forgotten that the Greyshirt mini was (practically) all Veitch. Which makes sense, as that's the last thing he did that I really liked (although, to be fair, I totally missed out on the Question mini).

Also: Didn't he do the second Heroica linking one-shot after RBF?

Whaaaaaa??? Those things actually came out? I just thought they were announced forever ago and never actually produced. If they exist...ohhh, man. I need that shit.

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

I thiiiiink he announced plans for four and actually put out two. but it might have just been one. long time ago now.

I skipped the Question too (doing Aquaman [for THOSE SWAMPY-HATING BASTARDS DC] after Cy-Gor broke me of following him), if they collect it to cash in on the UPCOMING MASSIVE SALES of Can't Get No I'll check it out.

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

Cy-Gor?!?!?!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha. Yeah. Veitch wrote the extremely short run of Cy-Gor. Which, if you weren't aware, is short for Cybernetic Gorilla. He was a supporting character in Spawn. I think it's safe to say that it was the weakest thing Veitch ever did. But I still bought it, like a chump.

I still haven't finished reading his Aquaman run, but what I've read has been mostly underwhelming. I still give him the benefit of the doubt, though, because he's still probably one of my top five comics people on the basis of his past work.

Deric W. Haircare (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, there was something else for McFarlane about the same time as Cy-Gor, I think, about a cobbled-together-from-bits soldier or some such. Ran one issue, then the first eight pages of the second appeared as a back-up to some other rubbish WHICH I ALSO BOUGHT LIKE A CHUMP, then it vanished. Someone tell me if I'm imagining this! At first I thought it might have been for Liefeld, but then I remembered the pompous introduction from McFarlane talking about how the story had an antecedent in this thigns called Frankenstein but he reckoned kids today -tchoh!- wouldn't even remember the original Frankenstein story, which was a black and white movie, check it out on cable folks.

Anyway point is yeah, Rick had squandered a lot of goodwill by the time of Aquaman.

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

I HAVE A CYGOR DOLL HANGING FROM MY WINDOW AT HOME

¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ (chaki), Tuesday, 13 June 2006 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

no wait maybe that Frankenstein intro was for Cy-Gor and Rick did do... something else for Rob. WHY BRAIN NO REMEMBER BAD COMICS?

this has made me think though, has Veitch ever drawn anything for another writer apart from Alan Moore? the collabo stuff with Bissette was usually all mixed up duties-wise so write that off. everything else I can think of he's drawn was either written by himself, or by Moore: Swamp Thing, Marvelman, the AIDS thing in Epic Illustrated, 1963, Supreme, Greyshirt in Tomorrow Stories.

1941 falls under Bissette exception, they hijacked writing to some degree as well.

Lettering for Cerebus doesn't count.

kit brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 01:59 (nineteen years ago)

As a side-track to the Diamond/Midtown list, the new SuperF*ckers turned up this morning.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 11:34 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, good grief. (Major Civil War SPOILAGE

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

CHARLIE BROWN IS THE NEW SPEEDBALL???

THE SCOOP

Warlock Magazine (Warlock Magazine), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

I AM A IDIOT.

I just went, and I bought 52, rocketo, civil war, two gun kid & superman and then PROMPTLY LOST THE BAG. I thought I left it at the store, but Erica says no. Maybe I left it at Finyl Vinyl, but I keep calling and the line is busy.

I WANNA READ STUPORMAN BUT NOW I CAN'T!!!!!

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

YE GAD!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

That's the saddest thing I've ever heard.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

She is going to check Finyl Vinyl when she gets out of work, assuming they don't get back to me. Failing that? Back to the comic shop tomorrow morning to RE-BUY. Sad addiction.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

Also, they did not have the Spidey/Torch digest. I will seek that out elsewhere.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

52, Ex Machina Special, Fables, Superman, Civil War and Ultimate X-Men for me. Not bad.

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

My comic shop was SOLD OUT of Civil War! As if! But they had a big table of bargain-priced comics, and I got the Morrison/Quitely New X-Men for $10 and two Corto Maltese books for $4/each.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

Today's pick up was 52 and SUPERMARKET

INITAL THOUGHTS

52 - Excellent. And one of the initial plots makes significant progress! Barbelith's gonna have a field day interfpreting the double page spread on 18 and 19. Plus more T. O. Morrow and Magnus!

SUPERMARKET - More fun w/ upper middle class guilt in an overstimulating environment. The billboard which advertised "underage J-POP!" w/ said teeny-bopper in a provocative position was laffs galore.

Richard Baez (Johnny Logic), Wednesday, 14 June 2006 22:48 (nineteen years ago)

I went to the comic shop at lunch and they actually had stuff I wanted!

Super Fuckers #277 HOORAY
Apocalypse Nerd #3 GOOD THING I RE-READ THE OTHERS RECENTLY, IS THIS A YEAR LATE YET?
That Superhero Thing For Boom By Giffen & DeMatteis, Now In Ongoing Form #1 ARGH THE MINISERIES SUCKED BUT I STILL CAN'T HELP MYSELF AND ALSO I AM STILL SAD THAT I DO NOT HAVE PLANETARY BRIGADE #2 EVEN THOUGH I CAN'T EVEN REMEMBER READING #1 hmm maybe I didn't, that could explain it
Some Two-Gun Kid Thing by Slott and also Giffen #1 I HOPE THIS IS A ONE-SHOT, I DON'T WANT TO GET SUCKED IN, I JUST SAW THE WORD "SLOTT" ON THE SHELF UH-OH
She-Hulk TPB #3 SO I DON'T HAVE TO BOTHER LOOKING FOR IT AT THE BOOKSHOP

They even had Fun Home, which was a surprise, but that I willlook for at the bookshop. And then probably wait for paperback because the book design was a bit underwhelming. Can't Get No will also be cheaper at bookshop, and I just wanted to read fun stuff today anyway. It does indeed have a letterer though, I checked!

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 15 June 2006 03:11 (nineteen years ago)

Two-Gun Kid is a one-shot, though just from glancing at the first page, it seems to spoil upcoming issues of She-Hulk!
But it also seems to have a back-up by Giffen & Fleming (aka AMBUSH BUG TEAM!!!) and drawn by ALLRED (OH BOY OH BOY).

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 June 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Fables #50 was pretty good! Although the Israel thing was oddly uncomfortable/mouthpiece-ish.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 15 June 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

I highly recommend READING Bullets Over Bludway for XTREME BAD COMICS ACTION.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 June 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

Umm... how come I got Showcase Superman Vol 2 and nobody else did?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 15 June 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

!!!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 June 2006 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

My shop had 3 other copies besides the one in my pull file.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 15 June 2006 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I'm still wading through the back of the Jimmy Olsen Showcase, so I don't feel too slighted.
HOWEV, I DIDN'T GET A GREEN LANTERN RING!!!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 June 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

I only finished the Haunted Tank one on Monday, and two new Spirit Archives volumes turned up yesterday.

You'd think this might teach me a lesson.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 15 June 2006 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think I'll ever finish Haunted Tank.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 June 2006 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

SUPERNATURAL LAW #1 WITH A BULLET MUTHAFUKKAS!

J (Jay), Thursday, 15 June 2006 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

Allred's just inking Giffen on the Two-Gun back-up.

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 15 June 2006 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

I BOUGHT TOM STRONG #1. MARK LIKE.

almost got shulkie 3 but hesitated due to financials. is it good like 1 & 2?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 16 June 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

It's got (mostly) the same artist as 1, and wacky timetravel she(hulk)nannigans.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 16 June 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

bobillo? he's definitely the bestest.

ps tom strong is rad so far. this stuff is like catnip to me.

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 16 June 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

I started reading the new Shulkie and it's way worse than the first one, it assumes you've read and care about a whole bunch of Marvel shit that came out between the two series, and have emotional investment in the fact that some character is currently dead, and know that She-Hulk has some kind of connection to him, and blah blah blah.

kit brash (kit brash), Saturday, 17 June 2006 04:15 (nineteen years ago)

ok i might skip that one.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 17 June 2006 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

Not to tell tales out of school, but a lot of stuff that's gonna come up in the next trade is set up in Vol. 3.
