Behold.

The title and concept seem totally up my alley; does anyone know anything about this book?

Anything that collects stuff by Rory Hayes has to be worth getting (tho' calling him and HERBIE 'unknown' is stretching the def a little bit)

well, nice cover.

It's pretty brilliant. Everyone should get it. Nadel's done a great job of uncovering an alternate history of comics--unlike other books, like Comics before 1945, it reads more like a graphic novel. Additionally, unlike the usual suspects, like the Smithsonian book, the selections are incredibly, wonderfully weird. Did anyone go to Nadel's reading at Rocket in Brooklyn a few weeks ago?

Dan Nadel's blog with a link to Tom Spurgeon's review:

Great book. Nadel did a fine job.

two months pass...
This arrived today. So much of it is hard to read! But there are many delights. Charles Forbell's total rip-off of Chris Ware was startling to turn to.

I ALMOST thought you were serious.

That's the difference between I Love Comics and I Love Music. On ILM Casuistry's joke would have turned into a 2000-post random googler bonanza Chris Ware: Why is he so bad and hated?.

Charles Forbell (the only one I can find online):

Not that anyone needs the comparison, but Chris Ware (in French?):

people be inspired by stuff!

Forbell looks like someone who studied Windsor McCay a lot, and Ware's style is an obvious amalgam of McCay, Cliff Sterrett, George McManus and Frank King

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

That's the problem with only finding one (of the, what, only 11 extrant strips?) -- some of the other strips looked like Ware in other modes.

Which is sort of what my joke was getting out -- sure, you can see McCay influencing Ware, but it's not as if you'd ever look at one and be fooled into thinking you were looking at the other.
