Matthew, I don't think the WHO who died in Runaways actually dies, or at least, WHO isn't dead yet, because the preview in on the last page sez, "ONE OF THESE IS GONNA DIES."

supergirl got zeta beamed or whatever to the future in the same alex luthor fourfingers the universe clusterfuck that plucked green lantern1's eye, blewup hawkgirl, and sent adam strange, animal man, and starfire to whatever kirby rock they're on. not sure they've established why/how she got back or the reason she's some creepy jessica biel pedocomic geek version of a girl in one year later dcu and normal/smart/perhaps a shade flighty (yknow - SUPERGIRL) one thousand and one years later or whatever.

Matthew: Nico's such an obvious choice (what with her recent excursions into boyfriend stealing, et al.) that I doubt she's a goner. Plus, she's my favorite so I'm probably in a state of denial.

But he's a jock who likes the fat nerd girl, which makes him likeable. He's also the non-super-powered underdog.

What about alien girl? She did just get back, but she seems expendable.

Okay, so it makes some sense in the story, but this seems like a total shark-jumping move. And you know, it definitely does seem slightly irresponsible - way to go Brian, you killed off the world's only cool chubby female superhero! Have fun writing The Adventures Of Asian Suicide Girl and Sullen Blonde Jock!

i stopped buying 52 this week. so there, DC comics.

i think i liked the brubacker one better, although i have no idea who vulcan is; i haven't read uncanny since 1992.

bachalo's art in x-men made it difficult for me to discern what was happening. and is cable going to be on that team? i hate that guy. rogue is the team leader? over cable? cannonball is a lot different from how i remember him in new mutants. how many x-teams are there now?

is new x-men a totally different team as well?

Cannonball has been written many different ways over the years, many of the characterizations being totally at odds with one another. Carey does a good job of it, writing him as the capable, level-headed, experienced guy who was the leader of the New Mutants and X-Force and has spent a significant chunk of time as a full-time X-Man.

Cable is kind of a better character now - more of a messianic character, less of a psycho. I imagine that Rogue drafts him into her group, and that's that. I'm really curious to see how things work out with Cable, cos I'm skeptical about his presence too. On the other hand, Carey kinda killing it in that first issue, so maybe I should just trust him.

New X-Men is not really the X-Men, it's really the new version of New Mutants. It is awful, which is does not have to be. It's sad, cos I can think of a dozen ways to make a killer New Mutants comic, and New X-Men goes in the opposite direction.

Uncanny: Charles Xavier, Nightcrawler, Havok, Polaris, Marvel Girl (Rachel Grey), Warpath, Darwin

There's also X-Factor, which is a detective agency. That group includes: Jamie Madrox, Wolfsbane, Strong Guy, M, Layla Miller, Rictor, Siryn

There's also a new, somewhat pointless version of Excalibur: Captain Britain, Dazzler, Juggernaut, Nocturne, Pete Wisdom, Sage. This book largely exists to give something for Claremont to do, though he's currently on a leave of absence for health reasons.

Also, if anyone has the patience, I'd love to understand the last issue of B4Bludhaven, if anyone can be bothered. Monarch? Captain Atom nukes a whole city and then dies? Er?

And I assumed they were flashing forward to things that have yet to happen! Like Pa Kent dying (unless he is dead), and Bats dying, and EARTH 2 IN THE FUTURE.

As for Gert eating it - I don't know that it's a shark-jumping moment for the series. It didn't seemed earned, tho (unlike Alex's death in the first "season"). That said, I'm glad BKV has enough faith in his chops (or hates himself enough) to write himself into these interesting little cul-de-sacs, and enough respectful disdain for his fannies to remove favorite characters from the mix and see where that leads.

BTW, this means BKV has killed a black kid and a pleasantly plump girl, both rarities in today's comic marketplace - START THE HATE MAIL CHAIN!
