Taking Sides: Commando v. Starblazer

both DC Thompson published, I believe.

Commando was (and indeed is) full of BIG WAR ACTION, while Starblazer was a series of science fiction one-offs.

Commando does well for the fact that it is still being published, but Starblazer surely wins because SF is more exciting than War (because SF often features WAR in SPACE, the most exciting type of War).

what do you think?

What little I've read of Starblazer was DULL, DULL, DULL beyond belief.

Bah. The art was often good in them, but you might be right in asserting that the stories could be a bit turgid.

my favourite artist was the guy who could only draw things in two dimensions, which is fine if you are drawing long spindley spaceships from the side. his interiors always had an almost HR Giger-y feel to them. I wish I knew his name. He also did that "Mercenary" story for The Crunch. Any help, David A.?

three years pass...

according to the Internet, Grant Morrison wrote AND drew Algol The Terrible for Starlord.

I recently bought an issue of Commando. It was set during the Franco-Prussian War and the Paris Commune, and was VERY EXCITING. It had a revolutionary leftist bias. Deadly.

Jesus. I remember reading Commando as a kid. So depressing iirc :(

one month passes...

I missed the immediate sequel to the Franco-Prussian war one, but I did manage to pick up the latest episode, which featured yer man in THE BOXER REBELLION. I have not read it yet.

That Starblazer artist I mentioned seems to have been some guy called something like Alcatena. Like all south american artists, he seems to have had a sideline drawing smut, which is amusing given his Bellardinelli-like inability to draw people.

one year passes...

in other Starblazer related news, there is now a roleplaying game based on this comic, billing itself as a "space rock opera" game.
