Did you interview the Rawhide Kid while you were there? SCOOP!

ATTENTION BLOSSOMING METAL BANDS:

Why not call yourself Vartox, eh? It's vaguely menacing and sounds kinda like an unpleasant chemical - ergo, perfect.

It sounds like a toilet cleaner..

seven months pass...
I'M POSTING THIS HERE, CUZ I CAN'T ACCESS MY WARLOCK ACCOUNT. I THINK IT'S GOOD FOR A GIGGLE:

Via a series of events too epic to fully recount here, Warlock Magazine - The Only Media Outlet To Pass Off A Seance As A Credible Source (BEAT THAT, DRUDGE!!!) - has finagled an interview with the Impresario Of Angst, John Sweden! Best known for the television extravaganzas BUFFI - FEMALE EMPOWERMENT ICON, spin-off CAP'N CONDITIONER, the sci-fi western SCI-FI WESTERN and its film adaptation ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS - IN SPACE!!!, Mr. Sweden phoned us from a submarine somewhere in the Mediterranean depths to discuss the forthcoming two-dimensional incarnation of Buffi. Here's the gist:

The first issue '”Faster…” starts with Buffi attempting to rescue the first manned spaced mission to the sun! An overdose of solar radiation triggers a fatal chain reaction in her cell structure, P.R.O.J.E.C.T. specialists race to create a new Buffi and...well, you'll have to wait and see.

The Fortress Of Loneliness, Fear, And Doubt appears in issue #2, stuffed with a ton of new toys and gets haunted by the bandaged ghost of the Unknown Buffi of 3 Billion(!!!!) AD. Buffi gets a new power. She winds up sharing a prison cell with (in a DC crossover event!) Lex Luthor in issue #5. The Buffzarro Cube Earth invades our world in an epic 2-part adventure (no 'decompression' here!) and we're recasting the Buffzarros as a frightening, unstoppable zombie-plague style menace. Buffzarro Tweedy McPipesmoke and the Buffarro Scoobeeeee Gang turn up in the second part of that story too. What else? We meet Earth's replacement Buffi and our favorite icon of feminity takes on a new superhero identity...Ten of the 12 issues are complete short stories in 22 pages, so lots of stuff happens. And it all links together as a maxi-arc or whatever they call them these days, entitled 'The 12 Labors of Buffi'.

Buffi's Rogues Gallery is pretty weak, so I've tried to add some characters I think might enhance the mix...I figured Buffi could use a 'Subhuman' counterpart, so I've created Droll, an evolved dinosaur dictator who rules a monstrous civilization at the center of the earth. He's only in the story for a few pages but the concept is strong and feels like one that could be used again. Then there's the Doomed Yeti, a tragic scientist who's a bit like a refrigerated Incredible Hulk and turns up for a couple of pages. Buffi needs some good tough monsters to fight, so I've tried to think along those lines. In most cases, the villains only get walk-on roles in this one, however. Overall, the series is more about Buffi's relationships with her pals and with the world than anything else.

People know my stuff and I'm sure they can guess what to expect. It's going to be big, bold sci-fi Buffi for 30 issues, spaced out over seventeen years."

JOSS DONE RIPPED MY CONCEPT

Wasn't there some Neil Gaiman scripted comic back in the 90's with an evolved dinosaur dictator?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 09:53 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah, it was called "Teknophage", though apparently only the concept was by Gaiman, and the actual comic was by Bryan Talbot.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

The first six issues were written by Rick Veitch and pencilled by Talbot, 7-10 were by some other people, and then there was a six issue Phage: Shadowdeath mini written by Talbot and drawn by some guy called David Pugh, or something. Not Steve Pugh.
