THIS WEEK:
- BKV's long-awaited GN about lions and tigers and no bears!
- the third part of BKV's super-keen Escapists mini!
- the newest issue of Ultimate X-Men, which BKV used to write!
- a new Casanova, a series I'm sure BKV loves!
- a new Walking Dead, which is back on track (and I'm sure BKV would agree!)

AND MORE!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 11 September 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

So far, Fables & Doom Patrol TP (fuck a BKV)

(not really, I kid because I like)

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 11 September 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, absolutes nothin'. Good wallet week.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 11 September 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

52, Annihilation, Captain America, and probably the Doom Patrol trade, although I think there's some overlap there with issues that I bought back at the time. And maybe another DC Showcase, as I've been reading them constantly this past week, and might be able to finish off the what I have left before I hit the store on Friday.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Monday, 11 September 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

Just 52 and Ultimate X-Men. C'mon!

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Monday, 11 September 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

52, some Green stuff, mebbe Martian Manghunter, CapAm

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 11 September 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

Cappin 'merica
Hulk (even though I am getting kind of tired of this. my initial enthusiasm ahs SRSLY waned.)

disappointing goth fest line-up (orion), Monday, 11 September 2006 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

Yay, Essential Hulk Vol 4, lotsa nice Trimpe/Severin, some of Roy the Boy's best scripting (ie no Golden Age Hulk to 'revisit' hurrah), maybe even a nice little underrated Englehart run on the title

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Monday, 11 September 2006 16:33 (nineteen years ago)

The actual list is up: http://www.diamondcomics.com/shipping/shipping_091306.txt

I'm gettin':

52 WEEK #19 the reconfabulation of Booster!
DOOM PATROL VOL. 4 man do I love this stuff
CASANOVA #4 Jesus, already?
ESCAPISTS #3 although I'm on the fence about it
KLEZMER SC actually I have this already
KRAMERS ERGOT VOL. 6 this too
LOVE & ROCKETS VOL. 2 #17 and this
COMIC ART MAGAZINE #8 plus also this, although PLUG PLUG I've got an article in it

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

Love & Rockets, sweet.

I looked through a bunch of (recent) back-issues last week and had a hell of a time trying to figure out what I had already read in the trades. It's kinda random, i.e. I would look at Luba's Stories #8 and say "oh yeah, I've read that" but #7 was totally new to me.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

LIST:

PHONOGRAM #2 - I LOVE THE 90S: PART DEUX
CASANOVA #4 - Hopefully the George Harrison look will keep for a while more. PLUS: Are there now two Ruby Sechelles running around?
DOOM PATROL: MUSCLEBOUND TPB - Despite my ownership of the singles, I'm tempted to make this mine solely for the stunderful Bolland cover.
LOVE AND ROCKETS VOL 2. #17 - If you've neglected to do so, please read SLOTH.

Richard Baez (Johnny Logic), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:24 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, then, also add Aquaman and Green Lantern Corps to my list above. Which will almost definitely prevent me from also grabbing another Showcase.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

this is the HUGEST week evar!

KRAMER'S ERGOT #6!!!!!
COMIC ART #8!!
Seth's 40 CARTOON BOOKS OF INTEREST!!!
possibly the new KAMPUNG BOY edition!
maybe the LAST LONELY SATURDAY hardcover if the design's nice even though I've got the softcover because it's cheap!
MOME vol 5!
if there wasn't so much already then KLEZMER!

not that I'll see any of this stuff this week, but just so I can play along...

kit huge (kit brash), Monday, 11 September 2006 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

first kit (kit brash), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 02:07 (nineteen years ago)

OKAY I AM NOT MAKING A NEW THREAD IN CASE THIS TURNS OUT TO BE NOT TRUE BUT UH JOSS WHEDON IS TAKING OVER RUNAWAYS.

http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=83669

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 02:10 (nineteen years ago)

runaways will still suck.

disappointing goth fest line-up (orion), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 02:12 (nineteen years ago)

I'm with Iang, because somehow the cult of Whedon missed me when it was rounding up nerds into its clique.

c('°c) (Leee), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 02:24 (nineteen years ago)

There have been many attempts to make me a Whedon fan in the past--I've watched a good chunk of Buffy, and don't get me wrong, I still follow Astonishing. HOWEVER, I've just never fallen hard for his stuff like some people do. If I had spent my youth watching Buffy reruns instead of Star Trek:TNG reruns I might feel different.

disappointing goth fest line-up (orion), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 02:59 (nineteen years ago)

I spent middle school watching Buffy so obviously Whedon is close to my heart but to be honest I am more excited because I don't really like BKV REALLY <3 BKV, I PINNED THE PICTURE OF HIM ONTO MY WALL BECAUSE I WANT TO MARRY HIS BALD MUG, SWOON.

IAN IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GEEKIER THAN THOU CONTEST YOU BEST BE READY TO REPRESENT.

ugh I am totally tweaked on nicotine.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 03:08 (nineteen years ago)

I don't really like BKV

c('°c) (Leee), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 03:48 (nineteen years ago)

to put it mildly.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 03:54 (nineteen years ago)

Aight, I'm going to bed before I do something I might regret to some tasteless BKV hater. (~_O)

Escapists, Ex Machina, Fables, Casanova, Ms. Marvel (enjoying her Civil War x-over).

I've loved Runaways so far, but I wasn't too broken up hearing Vaughan and Alphona were leaving. Whedon seems like a particularly apt replacement, and BKV will probably just create something else I'll like as much as all his other stuff. With Ex Machina and Y both ending within the next two years, he'll have some time on his hands.

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 06:29 (nineteen years ago)

Oh wow, guess I'll have to start reading "Runaways". I won't say anything more because ppl being Whedon-hatas is the one thing that can send me into Lexlike fits of outrage (and BKV, though I like him, would make a perfect Artic Monkeys for this scenario, too.) Never bothered before because the title is so EMO

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 07:43 (nineteen years ago)

Runaways is great, hope it comes out more often than every three months.

I seldom make intelligent choices and when I do they usually turn out to be really stupid decisions.

That sentence really irritates me!

So I'm going with love. Following Brian [Vaughan] on any book is idiotic, but playing with these kids makes it worth the hilarious drop in quality we're all gonna enjoy.”

Heh.

I'm sending them to Manhattan, where they'll meet some stalwart Marvel folk they haven't met before

Didn't this happen a few months ago?

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

I guess the night's sleep didn't keep me from doing something stupid.

I don't like BKV either! I LOVE HIM IN A MANLY WAY.

Ok, who's next?

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

Klezmer = new U.S. translation of Joann Sfar graphic novel

Your killing me and my meager finances, Douglas.

Richard Baez (Johnny Logic), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

God, I thought that read "new U.S. translation of Jonathan Safran Foer graphic novel"!

In other news, I've changed the name of the board to I Love Communism.

God, I thought that read "new U.S. translation of Jonathan Safran Foer graphic novel"!

Steve Bissette could draw the "sex that glows" scene from ILLUMINATED, ala ABBY/SWAMPY lovin'!

Richard Baez (Johnny Logic), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

52 was pretty decent this week if you are able to forgive the idiocy of direct visual references to Catholicism in deep space. Like, conceptually, it's sound, but the iconography is a bit much.

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

But you know, I guess Lobo stuff ought to be totally nonsensical.

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 18:54 (nineteen years ago)

52's been very un-emo for a while, which is good. The art is seriously dragging it down, though -- the second full-page of nu-Booster is uggggggggly. And the repeated six-panel pages are driving me bonkers. Is it some kind of Chester Brown thing, where repeatedly using the same six-panel design makes it easier to cut/add new panels? Or is it just, y'know -- lazy?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

Could the six-panels be a Giffen thing? He used to do that nine-panel biz all the time, back in the day.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah -- nine panels is the quintessential Keith Giffen style -- and it is a style, whereas splitting the page into six squares just seems a bit lazy/generic to me.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

dude's got to lay out four issues a month and have them comprehensible to whichever hack rolls through the door that week = most basic American comic book layout is seen as practical, I'd guess.

keith brash (kit brash), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

Have you been looking at Giffen's layouts at 52thecomic.com? I almost always like them way better than the finished art.

Douglas (Douglas), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

CASANOVA remains exemplary. Featuring this generation's incarnation of the Buddha. And Sabine Seychelle!

Richard Baez (Johnny Logic), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 22:21 (nineteen years ago)

Liked the Weather Wizard mini-splash, total Infantino.
Green Lantern was kinda good. Green Lantern Corps was kinda AWESOME (except the parts where the inking was shit-tay).
Green Arrow sucked giant-sized man-things. I'm entirely convinced that Winick's story mechanics ARE BROKEN. I mean, what did we learn from this issue that wasn't covered by the eighteen "I took my family to an island and we trained" mentions in the last six or seven issues??? That Scott McDaniels shouldn't draw anything but ninjas?
Marmot Marmothunter was okay.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 22:33 (nineteen years ago)

This is one of those no good comics weeks, so I have ended up buying ship like DMZ.
