Has anyone read it? Is it that good? (*ie As good as the reviews say it is).

I like tawkin' lions as much as the next man, but how is this tale of lions in war-torn Baghdad?

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

I have it to read, but have not yet read.

Do the lions talk?
(waiting for softcover)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

Do the lions talk? They never shut the hell up!

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

Oh. This has just dropped down a few spots on the Things I Want to Read List.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, they don't talk. They sing.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

ooooh do they rap?!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

this looks awful btw!

WHATEVER

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

It's not a proper children's animal story if it doesn't end with the petrifying, violent death of the main character that scars you for months afterwards (Thanks a fucking bunch, Henry Williamson.)

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

It's good! A bit didactic and pedantic, but it definitely gets by, has some wry wrinkles, and the art is GORGEOUS.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 21 September 2006 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

there's art?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 22 September 2006 05:42 (nineteen years ago)

Does it get preachy? Because as a poacher, I don't want to read anything that would be anti-poaching.

I was wondering why that sounded familiar...

Q_Q

I'm surprised PoB is only the art guy's SECOND work/graphic novel ever. The colors were what made it for me. That and the Todd Klein lettering.

Still, dialogue at points definitely reads like standard BKV dialogue. Some continuity quibbles aside: 4 Roaring Lions out of 5.

two weeks pass...
Wow, suck an awful story. I was very disappointed by the overly cliches (no, my keyboard doesn't make the fancy "e" even though cliche supposedly needs it) that rampaged through it. Sorry but the death of 650,000 Iraqi civilians are more important than the story of the death of (motherfucking spoiler) 4 stupid lions (the motherfucking has stopped) that probably wanted to eat the Americans.

christopherscottknudsen (christopherscottknudsen), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 07:42 (nineteen years ago)

HELLO METAPHOR

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

Why doesn't Superman use his powers to help out mankind isntead of getting out of Lois' marriage traps?

Would someone trade the new Fables hardback for my Pride of Baghdad, I will make it worth your time (by trading Pride of Baghdad for the Fables hardback)?

christopherscottknudsen (christopherscottknudsen), Sunday, 22 October 2006 08:31 (nineteen years ago)

three months pass...
Hey, this was quite good! And excellent to see my earlier comment confirmed.

Not sure I'd give it to the kids, though. Brr.
