But will he grow the IRON MOUSTACHE?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 29 September 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

Click the link, Tatum!
Downey, who has battled his fair share of inner demons, worked hard to get the role, getting in shape and even growing a goatee like the one Stark sports in the comic books.

c('°c) (Leee), Friday, 29 September 2006 20:25 (nineteen years ago)

The not-so-good:
The comic debuted in the 1960s, and Iron Man's origin involved Stark being a prisoner of the Viet Cong. The movie version will be set in today's geopolitical climate.

Not to rehash any of the V for Vendetta haberdashery from months gone by.

c('°c) (Leee), Friday, 29 September 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

Today's geopolitical climate = IRON MAN RAMPAGE ON FOX NEWS SUNDAY

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 29 September 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 23:46 (nineteen years ago)

Any clues on who's gonna be the bad guy?

Who's a do-able crowd pleaser? Spymaster? Titanium Man?

If I was in charge I'd make sure it was MODOK. Think about it... they wouldn't need costly CGI, just get good old Frankie Muniz all prosthetic-ed up...

Eyemelt (Eyemelt), Thursday, 18 January 2007 18:26 (nineteen years ago)

Any clues on who's gonna be the bad guy?

I think the White Russian.

Turns out the White Russian was OTM.

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Tuesday, 6 February 2007 23:36 (nineteen years ago)

So this one will continue the tradition of superhero films with middle-aged villains.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 8 February 2007 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

Magneto: rich & well-connected
Green Goblin: rich & well-connected
Doc Ock: well-connected
Lex Luthor: rich & well-connected
Ra's Ah Ghul: rich & well-connected

See a trend, perhaps? Or do you want to see Wolferine take down Richie Rich once & for all?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 8 February 2007 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

Magneto is rich?

mh. (mike h.), Thursday, 8 February 2007 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

I don't doubt it! He's got, um, mountain hideaways & fancy helmets!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 8 February 2007 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Are Magneto and Ra's Al Ghul really rich? The fact that they have loyal followers doesn't necessarily entail a massive fortune.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 8 February 2007 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

Also, neither is well-connected, if you don't count their henchmen.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 8 February 2007 15:05 (nineteen years ago)

Ra's managed to get into a Bruce Wayne's last party! He'll be dining out on that for a while.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 8 February 2007 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

And mountain retreats & mid-ocean robberies don't pay for themselves!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 8 February 2007 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

Anyway (& I'm asking for it, but whatever), the "ho hum another middle-aged villain" thing, I don't get it. Pulp stories always had (GROSS GENERALIZATION ALERT) peers beating on peers (or aliens), most Golden Age superhero books did the same, and Marvel's heyday worked the establishment / counterculture || experience / age angle. And since most superhero movies of late (Spidey, X-Men, Bats, even [ugh] Daredevil & [sigh] Hulk) feature anti-establishment protagonists, it makes total sense to have them tee off against authoritative figureheads, at least initially.

Of course, the next Spidey flick has Topher Grace playing Venom, & the next Batman will have Heath Ledger as the Joker (& the first Batman had Cillian Murphy as a heavy!), so, um, yeah, I don't get it.

Of course, Iron Man's a different ball of wax.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 8 February 2007 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

Next Spidey also has James Franco as the Green Goblin II, right?

Plus the Blade movies have featured non-middle aged villains: Parker Posey, what's-his-name from the first one, etc.

lumberingwoodsman (Chris Hill), Thursday, 8 February 2007 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

When do we see Old Man Superpants beating up on children?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 9 February 2007 01:54 (nineteen years ago)

Okay I just came here to post that I just got the reference in the title and SERIOUSLY THAT IS JUST AWFUL. ;p

From Blog@Newsarama (via Variety):

Actor Justin Theroux, who penned the upcoming comedy Tropic Thunder, will write the sequel to Iron Man.

He’s best known for roles in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and HBO’s Six Feet Under (AND MULLHOLLAND DRIVE AND THE BAXTER COME ON DUDE - Ed.).

Variety also reports that Marvel Studios is “close to a deal” to bring back director Jon Favreau and star Robert Downey Jr. That’s a more cautious assessment of Favreau’s status than what Hollywood gossip columnist wrote last week.

The Iron Man sequel is set to open on April 30, 2010. The first movie has grossed $566 million worldwide since its opening on May 2.

David R., Wednesday, 16 July 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

Still think that the sequel should be called "War Pigs"

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 18:22 (seventeen years ago)

As opposed to "Supernaut"???

R Baez, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 18:27 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, so many possibilities when you think about it.

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 19:14 (seventeen years ago)

He’s best known for being son of Paul and brother of Louis!

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 16 July 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

See, that's just being elitist.

David R., Wednesday, 16 July 2008 22:28 (seventeen years ago)

Actually he's the nephew of Paul Theroux.

mh, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 23:16 (seventeen years ago)

But still the brother of Louis? INTERESTING.
