Just Jack of Fables + last week's stuff

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 20 November 2006 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

Big expensive week for me: 52, Action Comics, Supergirl & Legion of Super Heroes, Wonder Woman, Daredevil, Runaways, and X-Factor, PLUS Y The Last Man: Kimono Dragons, Ex Machina: March To War, and Captain America: Red Menace vol 2, though I may skip that last one for the time being.

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Monday, 20 November 2006 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah + Runaways

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 20 November 2006 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

[xpots]

You're skipping the wrong one, Skippy - I heart Ex Machina more than anyone here, I'm guessing, but you shd pick up BruCap before that.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 20 November 2006 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

Well the reasoning is that the last Cap volume I bought just sat around unread for a few weeks, whereas I'll probably burn through Ex Machina quickly on a train ride, which I have to do the next day.

52, Action (this better get better soon), Amazing Spider-Man (still fighting the urge to drop now instead of waiting for this CW nonsense to play out), Daredevil, X-Factor, in addition to New Avengers and Green Lantern Corps from last week.

I bought the first three issues of the Beetle. They were okay. I was kinda broke. I chose to spend my money on far less okay stuff like the Amastic Spider-Four. Same fate befell the new Aquaman. I sorta liked both of them, but not enough to shell out three bucks a month.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 01:09 (nineteen years ago)

I really like Blue Beetle! Possibly the best "new" thing to come out of OYL!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 01:57 (nineteen years ago)

There's really a lot to like about Blue Beetle, esp. Jaime (aka Nu-Blu). When was the last time a new character was launched with an old name where the new guy was actually sympathetic? It's a return to the Peter Parker archetype (the Peter Parker Principle, even) (ironic, since Ditko's Blue Beetle never seemed like anything less/more than an "other" Spider-Man) that works, vs. the PPP-lite of Kyle Rayner.
Like Peter Parker, Jaime is a teenager with typical teenage woes (he worries about EVERYTHING--everything:teenager=family/friends) and typical teenage sass (though not quite as sassy as Spidey). Plus, he's got COSMIC powers. And when DCU stuff shows up, it's not your typical FITE->TEEM-UP dynamic, it's generally, "OH CRAP, THESE PEOPLE ARE CREEPY."
Also, Cully Hamner = Good art.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

He's got Cosmic Powers that weird him out all the time, too!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 21 November 2006 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

New issue of 52 is probably the most solid and entertaining issue to date. Best line, undoubtedly penned by Grant Morrison: "SILENCE! If I hear of ANYONE ever calling me any one of NINE THOUSAND AND NINE DISGRACEFUL NAMES, I WILL ACT WITH NO MERCY!"

The new issue of Wonder Woman was fun and very well illustrated and generally well worth the wait. Runaways was great too, and much better than the last three issues, though that's probably a lot to do with Alphona being back on the book for the final BKV issues.
