"The new weekly series to follow DC's "52" is called "Countdown." Written by Paul Dini, it will start the week after "52" ends, and will continue the concept of portraying the DC Universe out in real time."

PAUL DINI, PEOPLE.
Too bad about that "real time" concept, which is one of the things about 52 that doesn't work so hot...

Is the new status quo, at least at DC, to have some Event Gotta Read 'Em All all year round?

c('°c) (Leee), Monday, 20 November 2006 23:24 (nineteen years ago)

So wait, are they just going to chain Dini to a desk? I certainly hope other writers are TBA...

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Monday, 20 November 2006 23:38 (nineteen years ago)

So are they going to release Countdown in reverse order? 52, 51, 50, 49...

Are they going to kill Blue Beetle in every issue?

Are you going to blog it? ;)

Tom (Groke), Monday, 29 January 2007 23:00 (nineteen years ago)

I'm currently discussing that with a couple of entities that might pay me to. Not gonna do it for free.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 00:43 (nineteen years ago)

Who've you been talking to? Do they rhyme with 'Osama' and 'Horses'?

Vic F (Vic Fluro), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 02:43 (nineteen years ago)

I think LITG mentioned that Sean McKeever is also going to be on the series. (I already gave RJ my one weekly click; NO MORE.)

Yeah, I'm sorta wondering about this too! I mean, on a purely practical level, how are they gonna keep changing worlds if there's no actual time to establish a status quo of any sort?

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

Well, so far, 52 hasn't been so much world-changing as world-illuminating, obviously with the big coded secret whatevered, worlds will change, but for the most part, the best stuff has really been sorta limited in scope. Like, the Space Heroes stuff hasn't (yet) resulted in Batman having gone to finishing school with KGBeast or Elongo Man's journey to the Soul World caused Hal Jordan to trade in his Air Force hat to open an A&W in Coast City. 52's ramifications (so far) have been largely personal. I guess that'll all change with WWIII, though.

Says Didio: "It's not supposed to be taken literally, you NERDS."

My guess, since all these characters are from the "same Earth" (tho not necessarily the same timeline???) is the Kingdom Come Robin might be post-redemption Jason Todd, which will either happen in Outsiders or Green Arrow, since no one except Winick gives a shit (and why should they?).

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 19:56 (nineteen years ago)

If "redemption" includes "killing Nightwang," sign me up!

1) First off – and asked multiple times – this image was clearly based on the promotional image generated for The Sopranos. Why? What was it about those characters, or the coming drama that mapped out to the DCU?

Dan Didio: Actually there were several inspirations for the piece and each character was chosen because of their importance to upcoming storylines in the DC Universe. This is not about one book or one story but about the major events that will unfold throughout the year.

lol
