For me:

52 WEEK #37 --who is Superwhatsis?
HELMET OF FATE: DETECTIVE CHIMP #1 --I love that this is where the x-over starts
THE SPIRIT #2 --the "Action Mystery Adventure" bullet convinced me
CASTLE WAITING VOL. 2 #4 --although we better get more than 12 pages of story this time

Also: my bribe to myself each week for fulfilling one of my new year's resolutions is a volume of DEATH NOTE, although I'm still on vol. 3.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 15 January 2007 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

Wow I can't remember the last time there's been such a weak shipment. Just 52 and Ultimate X-Men for me, though in fairness, at least I'm looking forward to reading both of them.

GREEN LANTERN #16 - DON'T LOOK AT ME, I'M HIDEOUS!!!
HELMET OF FATE DETECTIVE CHIMP #1 - Who am I kidding? I'm not gonna buy this, even with Shawn McManus monkey art. But only because if I buy this, then I'll probably have to buy Helmet of Fate: Ibis the Ibistible and his Ibistastic Ibistick.
OMEGA MEN #4 (OF 6) - NO REALLY, THIS IS FUN AND GOOD!

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 15 January 2007 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

52, Sandman Mystery Theater, Spirit

What's "Alan Moore's Another Suburban Romance"? That sounds likely.

Candy: tastes like chicken, if chicken was a candy. (Austin, Still), Monday, 15 January 2007 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

Batman Year 100 TPB
Y
Shehulk

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 15 January 2007 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

The Alan Moore from memory is a reprint of an Avatar T&A&gore-style cash-in "adaptation" based on text pieces he wrote elsewhere.

James Morrison (JRSM), Monday, 15 January 2007 23:32 (nineteen years ago)

SPIRIT #2 - This is neither fun, nor good, but it makes me feel like a man.

Wait, is Darwyn Cooke on this yet?

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 01:24 (nineteen years ago)

YES

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 01:36 (nineteen years ago)

Darwyn Cooke's been on it since the get-go! And it totally is fun!

Seriously, anybody else here reading Death Note?

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

So Huk is saying Darwyn Cooke Spirit = not good or fun? SHOCK SCANDAL IN THIS ISSUE SOMEONE DIES!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 01:40 (nineteen years ago)

Just Y and She Hulk on my pull list. I really liked the first issue of the Spirit, so I'll probably grab that, too.

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 06:24 (nineteen years ago)

I was just being a LIAR.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

52 WEEK #37
AQUAMAN SWORD OF ATLANTIS #48 (RES)
BIRDS OF PREY #102
HELMET OF FATE DETECTIVE CHIMP #1 - why GULACY on the regular series, huh?
SHADOWPACT #9 - um, probably my last?
SPIRIT #2 - yayayayayayayayayayayayay

FANTASTIC FOUR #542 CW - um, probably my last?
SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN #34
SHE-HULK 2 #15
SPIDER-MAN REIGN #2 (OF 4) - it IS very DKR (Parker is OLD), but it's also not bad!
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #104
ULTIMATE X-MEN #78 - the lover that dare not shave his head with a Bic!
WISDOM #2 (OF 6) (MR) - oh LOL @ this thing finally coming out; first issue was neato, but Trevor Hairsine needs a year's headstart to get anything out on a monthly basis, which is why he got BOUNCED
X-MEN FIRST CLASS #5 (OF 8)

CASTLE WAITING VOL II #4

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, Ultimate X-Men was total junk this month. And what's with all the silhouette panels? Did they censor really graphic drawings, or was it planned out that way? If it's the latter, baaaaaaad call.

The reveal at the end of 52, on the other hand, was really cool!

M Perpetua (mperpetua), Thursday, 18 January 2007 02:24 (nineteen years ago)

Yay new castle waiting! And JLA showcase!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 18 January 2007 03:35 (nineteen years ago)

Spider-Man: Reign even has Jimmy Olsen/Tucker Carlson pastiche named Miller Janson. AND OLD MAN SPIDER-BALLS. It's like the locker room at the Y.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 18 January 2007 04:50 (nineteen years ago)

Man, how fun is Helmet of Fate: Detective Chimp? It's about as awesome as that name would have you expect.

This is a good week for comics. Even Fantastic Four is pretty fine, dramatically better than it's been the last several months. Slott's JLA Confidential was the only weak spot; that thing's a total mess.

barefoot manthing (Garrett Martin), Thursday, 18 January 2007 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

That's because it's Slott AND JURGENS' JLA:C. Slott half-wrote it, then signed his exclusivity deal w/ Marvel, so DJ took it over (including scripting duties).

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 January 2007 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

I WANT MY COMICS, but there's no way I can stay up until 11 a.m. (only 4 more hours), and it's unlikely I'll get up and out of the house before I have to come back to work again. Why can't they just deliver them to me?
The harder I work, the lazier I get.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 18 January 2007 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

Awesome 52 issue this week, no?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 18 January 2007 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

SHUT UP!!!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 18 January 2007 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

FF4 was really bad!

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 18 January 2007 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

Compared to teh other shitty issues of FF? The rest of CIVIL WAR? Kidney stones? A handjob from Grandma?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 January 2007 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

dude :(

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 18 January 2007 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

PROFIT

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 18 January 2007 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

omg Dave wow hahaha

The Android Cat (Dan Perry), Friday, 19 January 2007 04:05 (nineteen years ago)

God, it WAS bad - the crux of the explanation for Mr. F siding w/ EVIL was fine (if a bit belabored), & definitely sounds more sensible than the other BS, but everything else was so ... awkward. And the art! Did some 4-year-old get the job of inking Valeria or something? She looked like a FOX TROT character!

You are DROPPED.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 19 January 2007 04:45 (nineteen years ago)

I'm actually amazed - I drop 4 titles from my pull list, but when I went to add upcoming minis & such, it's like I added 3. GAH.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 19 January 2007 04:54 (nineteen years ago)

Also DROPPED:

* BLADE: because whatever Howard Chaykin used to have must've been stolen or taken from him. Marc Guggenheim could be channeling Stan & Jack with a twist of Dark Phoenix, but I wouldn't know because HC's tendency to draw action sequences as if he's light-tabling Polaroids of action figures is way too distracting.

* SHADOWPACT: because Tom Derenick draws a shitty Detective Chimp, and everyone else in the book is a cypher. Tho explaining away The Demon's lack of rhyme as him trying to buck his demon caste (& dinging Blue Devil as his replacement) was cute.

Not DROPPED, but don't push me:

* ULTIMATE X-MEN: what the hell WAS that? Did Kirkman forget he had to wrap up the Cable arc this issue? Did Oliver forget that he was right-handed? This better be a speedbump.

* FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN: uhhhhh - between the corny redemption of Deb Whitman (she sold out Spidey because of the hospital bills, honest!), Spidey (or "Spidey") attempting to smother the Vulture mit a pillow, & corny-ass Ms. Arrow being jealous of Betty Brant's flirting w/ Flashie boy and almost shivving her with a SPIDER FANG ... this is reminding me of those awful issues of SUPERGIRL I read.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 19 January 2007 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

who is buying Supergirls and WHY???

i dropped shadowpact too. sigh.

chaki (chaki), Friday, 19 January 2007 22:07 (nineteen years ago)

Was it because Tom Derenick draws a shitty Detective Chimp, Chaki?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 19 January 2007 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

Willingham is on my "just write more Fables stuff, not this other junk" list. Well, it's not a list, it's ... just him. But I keep being surprised how little I like his non-Fables work. Even Claremont wrote good non-X-Men stuff.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 19 January 2007 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

had you read any Willingham pre-Fables?

elemongrels (kit brash), Friday, 19 January 2007 23:45 (nineteen years ago)

I read The Elementals, but haven't read it since it came out so don't know what I thought of it (except that I liked it to keep reading). The only other thing that comes to mind is his Merv Pumpkinhead one-shot, which I thought was cute -- so really, come to think of it, it's his stuff since Fables started that I'm complaining about.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 19 January 2007 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

so I guess you're saying that I shouldn't pick up the first eight issues of Shadowpact just 'cuz they're all half-off.
