I'm looking forward to the Slott Spider-Man, Unseen Peanuts, the preview from Eddie Campbell's Black Diamond Detective, Gumby, and maybe that Comics Festival! thing.

The Yellow Kid (The Yellow Kid), Friday, 26 January 2007 07:52 (eighteen years ago)

Slott, Peanuts and Eddie Campbell for me too. Plus Owly and probably the Kirkman Wolf-Man thing. Assuming my local shop gets a decent selection this year.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 26 January 2007 11:51 (eighteen years ago)

Why does Slott-Spidey have to also be Jimenez-Spidey??? I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT TY TEMPLETON WAS AVAILABLE.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 26 January 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

Ty Templeton don't sell (free) books like Phil Jimenez, tho!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 26 January 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

Little Archie is a Bob Bolling story, so I'm curious.
Curious about the Slott/Jimenez Spidey.
Lynda Barry!
Unseen Peanuts!
Comics Festival w/ Bryan Lee O'Malley!!!
I'd say Whiteout but I already have the TPBs. But if you don't, it's worthwhile.
NEXUS!!
Owly!
Gumby!

A bit saddened that the Finder FCBD thing that was tentatively on the schedule for this year didn't come through, though.

Douglas (Douglas), Friday, 26 January 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES IN THE 31st CENTURY #1—FCBD EDITION
by J. Torres & Chynna C1ugst0n-Flores

OMG I did not know she divorced and remarried!

oh man, the first thing this thread made me think about was how I dumped my girlfriend a week after free comic day last year. we had gone on a trip the weekend before and there was a free comic display in the strip mall.

on a brighter note, Unseen Peanuts? I'm there!

mh. (mike h.), Saturday, 27 January 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)

Unseen Peanuts and Slott Spidey are musts -- I'll probably get Owly because I think I could get my nephew to read it (though if I got Mickey Mouse and he liked it, I could get him a subscription).

Owly was definitely my favorite free comic last year, though.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 27 January 2007 01:48 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know of any comics shops in NYC that will give you whatever you want on free comics day, but I'd quite like the Legion thing.

M Perpetua (mperpetua), Saturday, 27 January 2007 02:03 (eighteen years ago)

I thought ordering online wd get me locked out of FCBD last year. A few weeks later, tho, I got about 10 in my next shipment! It was very nice. Buying way too many comix has its privileges!

On the other hand, there are enough stores that you can probably get everything you want if you're willing to make multiple trips. Last year Jim Hanley's was "pick any 5", while Forbidden Planet didn't even seem to be giving out the FCBD comics, it was "here's some crap we were going to throw out." I'm not sure how Midtown was doing it.

The Yellow Kid (The Yellow Kid), Saturday, 27 January 2007 04:30 (eighteen years ago)

LYNDA BARRY
SLOTT/JIMENEZ SPIDER-MAN (For the first time in a very long while, I'm impressed with Marvel - pairing him with Jimenez behind a book that's almost certain to be widely read is almost certainly a profile raiser for Slott)
EDDIE CAMPBELL
THE UNSEEN PEANUTS (divorced from context, what a strange, strange phrase)
COMICS FESTIVAL
WHITEOUT

three months pass...
Bump.

The Yellow Kid, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

OMG may already

The last one I got included Darywn Cooke blowing George Strombolopol0us's head off, so a must buy.

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 30 April 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

I want Comics Festival sooooooooooooooooooo bad for the Scott Pilgrim stuff, but I just KNOW that I'm going to get effed out of this by my local stores.

Mr. Perpetua, Monday, 30 April 2007 21:16 (eighteen years ago)

They're producing it at my local store, The Beguling, so I can probly grab some extras if anyone misses out.

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 30 April 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

Have read (all of) these already; reviewing on Salon later this week. Yes, you want to grab Comics Festival for sure. Also the Lynda Barry and Unseen Peanuts ones are amazing, but you knew that. Thing I had never heard of but enjoyed immensely: Love and Capes. Astounding Wolf-Man is fun too.

Douglas, Monday, 30 April 2007 23:08 (eighteen years ago)

So I picked up the Slott/Jimenez Spider-Man and the little Eddie Campbell Black Diamond Detective Agency at my one comic store. I think I'll grab the Rucka book, Owly and maybe something else when I hit my other store in a couple of days. Not read them yet.

And you?

Oblivious Lad, Saturday, 5 May 2007 20:45 (eighteen years ago)

I managed to get the Comics Festival thing with Scott Pilgrim, Dinosaur Comics, Hope Larsen, Cameron Stewart, etc! I had to go to more than one store to get it, but it's miiiiine.

Between the two shops I got: Spider-Man, the Iron Man/Hulk thing, the Eddie Campbell book, the Dark Horse sampler with that thing from the My Chemical Romance guy, that ridiculous Wizard "how to draw" thing, and a stack of random free stuff that include some Wildstorm thing, an issue of Superman I already had, Martian Manhunter #1, Infinite Crisis #7, and some crappy semi-recent issue of Marvel Team Up.

Mr. Perpetua, Saturday, 5 May 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

Between two stores and one (1) library (!), I got Owly, Slott Spidey, Irong Mang vs. Hulk, Unseen Peanuts, LOSH, Eddie Campbell. I looked longingly at the Umbrella Academy because of the Gabriel Ba art, wracking my branes to figure out why the name "Gerald Weigh" was familiar, then it was like "EEW" when I remembered who he was. Didn't once see the Comics Festival thing, though. -_-

Leee, Saturday, 5 May 2007 23:17 (eighteen years ago)

Couldn't find the Slott :(

The BLO'M thing is very cute though. The last slice of bread thing really hit home to me.

Chuck_Tatum, Sunday, 6 May 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

The Slott story, it's been explained to me, takes place at a future point in continuity, which is intriguing, given e.g. the Jackpot/tiger business.

Douglas, Sunday, 6 May 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, the Slott was gone when I got to my store, and so was Love & Capes.

The Yellow Kid, Sunday, 6 May 2007 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

Seriously, you didn't miss too much on the Slott/Jiminez Spidey front. It's really mediocre and I already gave away my copy.
