A WINNAH IS US (if us is wanting to get CIVIL WAR in the crotch again, what with the crotchbat that is FRONTLINE winding up).

David R., Monday, 26 February 2007 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

Damn you carriage returns!

Let's also talk about Marvel's fancy upcoming HALO regular series, to be essayed by ... BENDIS & MALEEV?!?!?!?

David R., Monday, 26 February 2007 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

Jack of Fables (lol @ going from part 1 of 2 of one storyline --> part 1 of 2 of a new storyline)

Runaways

Jordan, Monday, 26 February 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

52.43, Daredevil

Wow, light this time. Good thing too, considering the moths in my wallet.

Oilyrags, Monday, 26 February 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

Yup, just 52 and Daredevil for me. Interesting to see where Brubaker's going from here. I hope he doesn't chuff it up, the last storyline was a little tortuous.

Also: yellow stripey-pants aliens!

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 26 February 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

This is the week I like the most every month -- Daredevil, Runaways, and Legion always seem to ship together.

Anyway: 52, Action Comics, Supergirl and the Legion of Super Heroes, Daredevil, Runaways, X-Factor, X-Men.

Mr. Perpetua, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, just took a look at next week -- that's when Buffy comes out! Nice.

Mr. Perpetua, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 01:10 (eighteen years ago)

SHOWCASE PRESENTS GREEN LANTERN VOL 2 TP

M.V., Tuesday, 27 February 2007 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

For me:
52 WEEK 43--the return of Buddy and the ay-lee-unz
FIRESTORM, THE NUCLEAR MAN #33--because Shilo Norman's in it, that's why
SHOWCASE PRESENTS GREEN LANTERN VOL. 2-- because I fixated on this stuff as a child, that's why
SUPERGIRL/LEGION #27--approaching the end of the Waid/Kitson run
DAREDEVIL #94--where's the story gonna go next? is this the romance issue? I think so
DOCTOR STRANGE: THE OATH #5--really, this is as good a Doc Strange as we're gonna get right now
TO TERRA VOL. 1 TP--because I do whatever Anne Ishii tells me to do
ALAN MOORE'S EXIT INTERVIEW SC--actually bought that already this weekend

Douglas, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 02:42 (eighteen years ago)

ALAN MOORE'S EXIT INTERVIEW SC - was ist das?

James Morrison, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 05:23 (eighteen years ago)

A small paperback with a longish interview with Moore in which he describes his disgruntlement with virtually the entire comics establishment, but especially DC, at great length. Moore will soon become the Noam Chomsky of comics: I can imagine a few books a year appearing under his byline that are basically just interviews in which he holds forth about whatever...

Douglas, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 06:08 (eighteen years ago)

52
ANNIHILATION HERALDS OF GALACTUS I gotta tread carefully with this spill-off stuff, but I think Giffen wrote some of this, so it could be good.
DAREDEVIL
DR. STRANGE: THE OATH what Douglas said. hopefully Bendis will take some pointers from BKV.
ETERNALS
WONDER MAN I think I'm one of four people in the world reading this book.
X-FACTOR
X-MEN

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

and oh, I'll probably grab SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE, 'cuz I read the first 14 issues in like an afternoon the other day and gracious how great they be

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

GM, how is WM? I was gonna buy it, but opted not to in an uncharacteristic pique of spendthriftiness.

David R., Tuesday, 27 February 2007 16:04 (eighteen years ago)

Eh. I had hopes for Wonder Man, y'see, 'cuz I genuinely like the character, dating back to his WCA and solo book days, and also of course Peter David is usually at least competent. Unfortunately the book thus far has been less about WM and more about this new-fangled villainess character with the lame-o name o' Ladykiller. There've been some laughs, for sure, and even though it was mostly before my time I have a fondness for the Beast / WM relationship, which has been mostly ignored forever, it seems, so it's good to see somebody acknowledge There's definitely good stuff here. Still, it's kind of boring, the art is sometimes ugly, and the whole book just feels kind of pointless. The concept of "superhero by night, washed-up b-actor by day" should still have some good stories left in it, but David hasn't delved too far into that. Mostly though I'm just buying it because I have to spend my deceased uncle's million-dollar fortune within 150 days or forfeit an even larger inheritance.

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

Buy me a pony?

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 19:11 (eighteen years ago)

Oh hey, by the way, how long has it been public knowledge that the Waid/Kitson was coming to an end? I found out over the weekend from that Newsarama article, and I'm really bummed out about it. I really hope that they get someone good to replace them, but I am rather pessimistic about it.

Mr. Perpetua, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

ONCE MORE, IN THE MIGHTY MARVEL MANNER:

RUNAWAYS - Next month guest stars Spidey! An' the Punisher! An' Xander!!!
SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE - But Marvel hates, hates, hates her.
DAREDEVIL - I'm still gettin' this, Matthew. Don't quite know why; don't let me down, Red Man...
DOCTOR STRANGE: THE OATH - Night Nurse saves the day!

R Baez, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

Daredevil is at a really awkward point right now -- the last issue would have been a perfectly fine "this is the final DD story! you can all go home now!" sort of thing.

Mr. Perpetua, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

52 WEEK #43 - Yellow aliens! GAH! Excitement.
ACTION COMICS #846 - Phantom Snooze.
BLUE BEETLE #12 - The last issue, which was the first post-Giffen issue, I think, was actually REALLY, REALLY good.
SHOWCASE PRESENTS GREEN LANTERN VOL 2 TP - More sidekicks turning into birds, and more Qward, please!
DAREDEVIL #94 - I didn't get the last issue. I don't know why. Did I forget to add it to my list when I switched? DID MY COMIC SHOP SELL MY ISSUE TO SOMEONE ELSE AND THEN NEVER REPLACE IT??? (they did that with one of the Ostrander-Batman issues, but replaced it the next week--I hadn't even missed it)
ACTION PHILOSOPHERS #8 SENSELESS VIOLENCE SPECTACULAR

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:49 (eighteen years ago)

Also, there seems to be about 4 times as many action figures in the Superman/Batman line than there have been issues. Not that I mind anymore, since it's gone from the most to least interesting title starring either S or B (not counting JLofA) over the last three years.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

52 WEEK #43 - As everyone said: Yellow Aliens!!
BLUE BEETLE #12
FLASH THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE #9 - Is this the first number of the new team?
JACK OF FABLES #8
SUPERGIRL AND THE LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #27 - Somehow missed 26, so I'll have to download both = P

DOCTOR STRANGE OATH #5 (OF 5) (which actually means I'll be downloading the entire series)
RUNAWAYS #24
X-FACTOR #16

Amadeo, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 18:55 (eighteen years ago)

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane is so so so good!
Thank you. I wouldn't have payed attention to it if it wasn't for you, guys.

Amadeo, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 22:39 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, Sobek.

Mr. Perpetua, Wednesday, 28 February 2007 22:46 (eighteen years ago)

Why did nobody he met ever think he was Killer Croc? WHY?

James Morrison, Thursday, 1 March 2007 02:46 (eighteen years ago)

Poor old Osiris. Still, I have to say, that's the first bit of violence I've seen in 52 that's been genuinely chilling, as opposed to just gratuitous limb ripping. There's something awfully poignant about being bitten in half by a comedy alligator.

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 1 March 2007 03:50 (eighteen years ago)

52 WEEK #43
DEADMAN #7
JACK OF FABLES #8
JLA CLASSIFIED #35
JUSTICE #10
SHOWCASE PRESENTS GREEN LANTERN VOL 2
SUPERGIRL AND THE LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #27
WETWORKS #6
JACK STAFF #13
DAREDEVIL #94
DOCTOR STRANGE OATH #5
ETERNALS #7
IRON MAN #15
MARVEL 1602 FANTASTICK FOUR #5
SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE #15
X-FACTOR #16
FALLEN ANGEL IDW #13

Or at least that's what I'm hoping to pick up in a couple of hours.

aldo, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

These writers, they have messed with my emotions. I had love for Sobek, true love. The truest.

Garrett Martin, Thursday, 1 March 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

Nu-Nu-Flash - PRETTY GOOD! Art is borderline awful (maybe cuz it was a rush job?), but Guggenheim lays down the law: "All that really matters is that I run fast and I help people."

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 1 March 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

EXTENDED COMMENTS FROM AN EFFEMINATE YOUNG HISPANIC MALE:

DOC STRANGE - THE OATH: PREDICTION (RE: RECENT NEW AVENGERS): Night Nurse is the new Ronin - this I believe.
DAREDEVIL: Typically I'd say "Senor Exposition es muy malo...", but I like you, placeholder issue!
RUNAWAYS: I've found this title fairly underwhelming since Gertie's death, but re-reading Vaughan's last arc last night, I was pleasantly surprised. Upgraded to "very good".
SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE: NOTE "EFFEMINATE YOUNG HISPANIC MALE". So yeah: A+!

R Baez, Thursday, 1 March 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

CIVIL WAR FRONT LINE: Horribly underwhelming, but I'd already forgotten most of the plot points from the rest of the series. Kind of like CIVIL WAR except this one had plot points to forget. Dull.

DAREDEVIL: Extreme extreme filler issue, recap of Matt/Milla relationship. Nice to get a little bit more from her perspective (I miss the scenes with her and her friend back when she first showed up) but it's rather dull and adds nothing.

RUNAWAYS: A competent finish to an amazing, amazing run that unfortunately probably should have cut itself off before Skrulls and dead Gertie. Curious to see what happens with Joss though.

X-MEN: More pretty-looking fight scenes, but that's what I read this thing for. Bachalo's a little shaky this time; there are some incredibly goofy faces, even for him. As fun as this ever is.

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 1 March 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

Guggenheim lays down the law: "All that really matters is that I run fast and I help people."

Ugh, really? I hated that. I bought the book because I'm interested in how they develop Bart as the Flash, and that comic just made me think that Guggenheim was just as clueless as the idiots who ran it into the ground for the first eight issues. Nobody seems to have any real ideas, Bart isn't written as any sort of charismatic or unique person (saying "dude" a lot doesn't count, okay?), and they aren't doing anything interesting or FUN about Bart being so fast. He could be anywhere, he could go all over the place! He could hang out in 15 cities in one day, but he's hung up on being a cop and spending most of his time in one place? That's just ridiculous. He's a person who lost years off his life, he should be overcompensating right now.

Mr. Perpetua, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:01 (eighteen years ago)

Um, Dr. Casino, Huberto Ramos drew that issue of the X-Men, not Chris Bachalo. Ramos did the last three issues, and Bachalo is back next month. I also take issue with the notion that the art was "pretty," unless you're just way into Lady Mastermind's watermelon tits.

Mr. Perpetua, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

Ha, shows how much I'm paying attention! Strike that one from the record.

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 1 March 2007 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

re: Ugh, really?

Well, I guess what appealled to me about it was that Gug basically admitted that spending the next 50 issues trying to make sense of Bart Allen was going to get in the way of FUTURE FUN, so, like, let's get Flashy. But yeah, ultimately, only pretty good in light of the previous 8 issues. Plus, I still hate Red Arrow (and will forever, even though I like Roy Harper).

Dr. Superman, Friday, 2 March 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

The Flash has been rub since Wally got morals.

Groke, Friday, 2 March 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)

doing the old "JLA IS GODS!" thing is pretty silly when the JLA'ers in question are GL, Speedy, and Black Canary.

Garrett Martin, Friday, 2 March 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

Well, Meltzer JLA surely seems a throwback to the satellite days rather than continuing the thread started by Morrison when every one was the living embodiment of something and the MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE ON THE WORLD. Only that this time they're all friends! and they call everyone by their first names! even though there are villains present!. Because they TRUST each other, you see?. That was the entire point of Infinite Crisis!.

Fuck Meltzer.

Amadeo, Friday, 2 March 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

Amen.

Dr. Superman, Friday, 2 March 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

Hey! How's the Shiloh Norman/Mister Miracle issue of FIRESTORM?

R Baez, Friday, 2 March 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

How is that I've somehow (possibly accidently) stopped getting Daredevil but am still PAYING CASH MONEY for Green Lantern?

Dr. Superman, Sunday, 4 March 2007 04:51 (eighteen years ago)

The FIRESTORM issue is very odd--definitely the liveliest that series has been in a while, and it does seem to be treating Seven Soldiers as canon, which is nice. Still a little disjointed: the wisecracks seem out of character in a few cases, and I wasn't sure who some characters were, having not been paying attention for most of the last year. Also, there are a few lines that suggest that this issue is part of the setup for COUNTDOWN and whatever comes after it, and that the plot of the big crossover is going to be a modified Find The Object scenario.
