It's up: here

For me: 52 Week #44--in which Adam goes 'splodey
All-New Atom #9--rapidly becoming guiltier, as pleasures go
Authority #2--I remember reading the first issue back when I was a kid
Detective Comics #829--looks like an interesting premise
Shazam: The Monster Society of Evil #2--loved the first issue, and the plot hadn't even really started yet
Showcase Presents House of Mystery vol. 2--more twist-ending fun w/ excellent art!
Age of Bronze #25--hasn't it only been like three months since the last one? anyway I love this series
Captain America #25--if what I hear rumored is true, everyone's gonna want to see this one
Criminal #5--double the Brubakery goodness in one week
Daredevil by Frank Miller & Klaus Janson Omnibus HC--be curious to see how well this stuff stands up--I adored it at the time
Mighty Avengers #1--because I am Bendis's fool

Good heavens that's a big week.

The Cap 25 spoiler thread on Newsarama infuriated me last night. (Not because of the spoiler, which sounds grebt).

I think I am easily infuriated, plus a food for reading a Newsarama thread.

Groke, Monday, 5 March 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

The DD Omnibus -- is that not already collected in the FM Visionaries?

Leee, Monday, 5 March 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

A food! But which food? A fool, I mean.

Gooseberry.

52 WEEK #44 - Less Punch, More Judy, please.
DETECTIVE COMICS #829 - Paging JH Williams!
MIDNIGHTER #5 - Wait a minute? This isn't a miniseries either? Is Sprouse gone?
SHAZAM THE MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL #2 (OF 4) - Reminds me, I need to go to the store and pick up some PB&J.
SHOWCASE PRESENTS HOUSE OF MYSTERY VOL 2 TP - Okay, seriously, EVERY WEEK NOW?
SUPERMAN BATMAN #32 - KNEEL BEFORE ZOOK!
WELCOME TO TRANQUILITY #4 Uh-oh, I thought this was a mini. I don't know if I like it enough to keep buying it FOREVER.
CAPTAIN AMERICA #25 CW - Spoiler? What spoiler?
CIVIL WAR INITIATIVE - Is this the Slott book?

Dr. Superman, Monday, 5 March 2007 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

INITIATIVE is the one-shot (ha, almost typed an I in there) by Bendis & Ellis & Marc Silvestri that's supposed to either sum shot* up or lay the groundwork for more shot. The Slott thing is AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE. To be followed by GLX: THE LACK OF INITIATIVE.

* - cussing kills Baby Speedball

David R., Monday, 5 March 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

& then to be followed by FASAUD: INITIATIVO

(I ban myself.)

David R., Monday, 5 March 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

WHO I AM - HOW I CAME TO BE:

SHAZAM: THE MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL #2- That really is the greatest title ever.
THE AUTHORITY #2- Hey! With stuff! Maybe.
FANTASTIC FOUR #543 - Paul Pope does a Spidey/Human Torch story - will Ty Templeton now go manga?

R Baez, Monday, 5 March 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

aldo, Monday, 5 March 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

what happened to those little Love and Rockets books? don't tell me Forbidden Planet Glasgow haven't ordered the fuckers

Ward Fowler, Monday, 5 March 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

Hahahahahahahahahaha at Authority #2 (which I will buy)!

HI DERE, Monday, 5 March 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

Big, expensive week for me: 52, The Authority, Detective Comics, Ex Machina vol 5, Captain America, Civil War: The Initiative, Mighty Avengers, Uncanny X-Men.

I'm pretty bummed out that Buffy #1 got pushed back. That was on the [expected list]http://www.diamondcomics.com/shipping/expected_030707.txt[/link] for this week last week and I was all psyched up for it!

Mr. Perpetua, Monday, 5 March 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

Paul Pope on FantaFour for real?

Dr. Superman, Monday, 5 March 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)

I'm gonna try and remember to check out that Pope FF thing, gotta pick up the Smith Captain Marvel for my flatmate, and will look at the Jeffrey Brown collection if the shop got it in. Plus getting last week's TCJ from bookshop.

what happened to those little Love and Rockets books? don't tell me Forbidden Planet Glasgow haven't ordered the fuckers

I've seen 'em, they're pretty nice. the lettering is likely to be completely unreadable by the time Beto's doing four tiers though.

SHAZAM: THE MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL #2- That really is the greatest title ever.

leave the wizard out of it:

energy flash gordon, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 03:11 (eighteen years ago)

I'm just plain satisfied with that Shazam: MSOE cover. I don't even care what's inside.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 04:58 (eighteen years ago)

52
Atom
Helmet of Fate Zauriel
Captain America
Criminal
Fantastic Four
Uncanny X-Men

equal parts dread and intrigue when it comes to Mighty Avengers, but no thanks for almost four entire dollars.

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

Paul Pope on FantaFour for real?

As per his blog.

.

R Baez, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

COOL.

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 00:28 (eighteen years ago)

Oh right, that's the Captain America spoiler. Um, point, exactly?

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

The point is press and $$$.

But historically, every time Steve Rogers stops being Captain America, it leads to a good story.

Groke, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

It is getting press.

scampering alpaca, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

Big whoop. I don't expect this will affect the Captain America comic that much since it's been The Adventures of Bucky and Sharon ever since Civil War started anyway.

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 20:13 (eighteen years ago)

Is it the comic still going with Bru after this is done?

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

I've not read any CIVIL WAR, aside from PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL (I stay away from events, and do so in an arrogant and self-righteous fashion - I'm sure to affect a literal nose-in-the-air stance when such books cross my path), but it strikes me that this turn of events was foreshadowed extensively in PWJ. Italics and all, it seemed.

R Baez, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:14 (eighteen years ago)

WHERE IS FALLEN SON: D-MAN?

Groke, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

FANTASTIC FOUR THE END #6 (OF 6)
2000 AD #1523
2000 AD #1524

M.V., Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:26 (eighteen years ago)

THE GIFT THAT JUST KEEPS GIVING:

(from JEPH LOEB noozarama interview)

"We all agreed that we needed to do what was the comic book equivalent of having the flags all stay at half-mast for 30 days... but what was that? Company crossover? A black band on all the books? What?!!!

...and that's when JMS spoke up. Like Zeus with a lightning bolt, he had written down the five stages of grief that would each be chapters of some kind of memorial book - denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance."

Like Zeus, people!

R Baez, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

I think I might buy the FALLEN SON books for the fancy art stuff. I weep for my tender soul.

BTW, if the latest issue of PWJ did just off about 20+ corny ass 70s/80s villains (Armadillo nooooooo), at least it was done with a little bit of heart & humor. KNEEL BEFORE DOOM RIP.

David R., Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:51 (eighteen years ago)

The 'best bits' of the Loeb i'view are the various questions on the lines of

"So is he actually dead then"

"Hey, I'm writing about the raw pain of the Marvel Universe now man!"

Groke, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

Will the Ultimate Universe Cap sense an eerie disturbance in the force and experience an overwhelming urge to sew wings to his mask?

M.V., Thursday, 8 March 2007 02:06 (eighteen years ago)

Holy fuck, people (aka Nardsaramada) are really acting like this is gonna last the summer.

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 8 March 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

WAIT SO WHAT HAPPENS TO CAPTAIN AMERICA

I HAVE NOT YET HEARD ABOUT THIS

David R., Thursday, 8 March 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

NRAMA: So once it was all decided that Captain America would die in issue #25 did it require any drastic changes of your plans as you had been constructing them for the series?

EB: Not really.

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 8 March 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Also, amid all the hubbub at Marvel, the most shocking development this week is that DC is using the back cover for IN-HOUSE ADVERTISING!!! That either means that they're REALLY excited about WWIII, or that paying advertisers are few and far between.

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 8 March 2007 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

Is Sasquatch the only Canadian on Omega Flight?

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

There's an interview with Brubaker in CBR where he seems really annoyed to have to answer questions about this. I almoust got the feeling that he was thinking "Fuck! Cap will be back in six months but if tell anyone Quesada and Millar will kick my ass".

Amadeo, Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

Talisman (the girl with the Power Girly costume) is also Canadian.

David R., Thursday, 8 March 2007 17:51 (eighteen years ago)

BTW, y'all heard that the Slott CW spin-off (AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE) - originally planned to be an ongoing, then changed to mini-series - is back to ongoing, yes?

David R., Thursday, 8 March 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

The Stan Lee story in the FF ish (illustrated by the comedy team of Dragotta, Allred, & Allred ("golly!")) came as a very pleasant surprise. It would be nice to imagine Quesada's office decorated with X-STATIX posters...

R Baez, Thursday, 8 March 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, but the lead story was pukeriffic! (I can't believe I bought the whole thing)
Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness isn't nearly as awful as it should be, and is actually pretty good, even. The final panel was straight out of JLI (only not really).
Superman/Batman = WHAT, there's still another chapter left? Remember when A MILLION THINGS used to happen in each issue (except the supergirl and the Maximums stories)? It's like it's not even the same people writing and drawing it anymore.
JLA, er, JLOFA is ONE GIANT STEP BACKWARD for Robot Pride. Oh, why don't we just cast all the robots as servants and entertainment units now? Nice one, Meltzer, you bigot.

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 8 March 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't puke once during that FF main story!

I want to say that Captain America was surprisingly well done, but then it's Brubaker, and it's absolutely no surprise when he does well. No idea how editorially mandated the death was, but Brubaker made it work pretty excellently with everything he's built up over the last couple of years. This was maybe the most satisfying big time death shockah ever.

Garrett Martin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

I just hate children. (when did the Reeds have a girl?)

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 8 March 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

When you were watching GA comb his beard.

David R., Thursday, 8 March 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

And how come Franklin is a tot in his own book, but like 35 in FF? (or was that Johnny Storm?)

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 8 March 2007 22:06 (eighteen years ago)

That was Willie Lumpkin.

David R., Thursday, 8 March 2007 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

Verdict: HOSTILE
No wonder they keep trying to cancel you, Manhanter.

BLOODY WOMEN. You turn your back for ONE MINUTE and they become HYSTERICAL HYPNO-DUPES of the RED SKULL. You wouldn't get this kind of trouble with D-MAN.

Groke, Friday, 9 March 2007 10:02 (eighteen years ago)

HARDCORE ROFFLES

HI DERE, Friday, 9 March 2007 13:07 (eighteen years ago)

OK, a big old EAT IT to Dirk "With a C" Deppey for posting the ACTUAL DEATH PANEL, so now certain someones who won't be able to read the story for another 6 days now know how it happened.

The Internet really sucks.

David R., Friday, 9 March 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

good thing he was the ONLY PERSON ON THE INTERNET OR IN PRINT MEDIA to post it!

energy flash gordon, Friday, 9 March 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)

LOVE CHUNKS

David R., Saturday, 10 March 2007 00:14 (eighteen years ago)

Also CAP KILLED BY LIBERALS SHOCKER according to every half-baked message board. DIRTY PINKO COMMIE SCUM FILTH KILLED OUR CAP. Yes it was the Red Skull who killed him technically and actually I agree with the Red Skull on a number of issues like his stance on immigration and creeping liberalism BUT THE WRITER IS A DIRTY LIBERAL AND POSSIBLY NON ARYAN GRRRRRRRRR THAT'S NOT WHAT CAP STANDS FOR etc etc etc etc.

Oh internetpaws.

Vic Fluro, Saturday, 10 March 2007 00:19 (eighteen years ago)

Plus Iron Man so BLATANTLY represents the military-industrial complex--!
