You know, I was thinking when catching up on Outsiders that I'm really tired of the Huge Tit Trope, and even if they were drawn realistically instead of ... like strange gym equipment ... they just wouldn't be titillating anymore. (Pun unavoidable.)

That's not directly related to this, though. I should revive the comics round-up thread (speaking of which, we seem to have lost VermontGirl).

(And by Huge Tit Trope, I really mean that it's just become a convention now, not a choice; some artists obviously get into it, but it's so omnipresent that it's become more like speedlines or thought balloons, something to be stylized according to personal taste, emphasized or muted, but never left out.)

Who ARE you calling "jerkoff", you fucking bondage whore? I mean, really, come on!

Re: the HTT - I rarely notice it/them anymore, except in this case, just because the WW art thrusts them to the forefront. Well, OK, in _Outsiders_ and _Birds of Prey_, they're kinda unavoidable. ESPECIALLY _Birds of Prey_, where the regular artist seems to take his cues from Bettie Page pin-ups half the time, and for no apparent effect other than to titillate (such a great word).

I imagine some (male) folks might feel (themselves & say) the HTT is a (welcome?) response to the HPT (P is for Pec) that's "plagued" comicdom since whenever.

But, seriously: more female artists, please.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it doesn't jump out at me every time ... I think only when the artist is making a particular point of it (any issue of Witchblade) or it's especially badly done or out of place. (In Outsiders, it seems out of place. Why it should seem more out of place there than elsewhere, I don't know. Winnick isn't a Huge Tit writer, maybe? But I have no idea how to quantify that.)

From the desk of Judd Winick:

PANEL 1: Jade uppercuts Baron Blood. HUGE TITS WITH KUNG FU NIPPLE ACTION, Tom!!! SOUND FX: BOOBIE!

The arc of Queen & Country where Tara Chace suddenly got huge tits (and assorted other sex symbol traits) disturbed me a bit.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The lettercol responses to Leandro Fernandez's interpretation of Tara are fantastic (and totally right).

In what sense?

(I read the trades, so no letters)

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Tep's idea of interior thoughts appearing in gigantic knockers.

xpost - what Jordan asks.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I can't recall the editor's / Rucka's responses verbatim, but essentially, they answered a lot of the criticism re: "this isn't Tara; her breasts are too big; this is a travesty" by saying, "it's the same character, just a different visual interpretation; boob size don't mean shit; get over it".

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I loved that episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where Ray got in the doghouse by telling his wife he wouldn't object to her visually interpreting herself differently.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha. Yeah, personally speaking, I think I might be a very different character if I was suddenly turned into a sexbomb.
