RIP Massimo Belardinelli

It's yet to be fully confirmed, but apparently Massimo Belardinelli passed away at the end of March.

To say this was a unique talent is putting it mildly. He turned his hand from everything to the sublime (Ace Garp, Peter Milligan's The Dead) to the the shit (Moonrunners) but had thrill-power throughout. Even Moonrunners was pretty to look at and Ace Garp leapt off the page at you and forced itself into your mind, to the extent that I remember an episode which had a whole page of him just going mental while presumably Wagner and/or Grant has a sneaky fag somewhere.

RIP Belardinelli.

I think we should celebrate his life and achievements by remembering his work. For example, Massimo Belardinelli was the man who gave THIS to the world.

So without him there would be no thrill-power as we know it.

This is sad, I LOVE his Ace Trucking Co stuff. So much detail and weirdness all rendered with a strange elegance.

:(

Given the right material nobody else could do what he did.

I think it was the Groke who once said that Bellardinelli is an example to us all - a man who could hold down a successful career as a comics artist despite being entirely incapable of drawing people.

God bless him.

Sad news. I always think of him drawing far more stuff than I think he actually did, because he seemed so dominant in early 2000AD.

My tribute to Massimo - includes self-hyping Pitchfork link action.
