WELCOME TO TRANQUILITY #6 - crossover? time to cut bait.

Dr. Superman, Monday, 30 April 2007 18:14 (eighteen years ago)

WTT is crossing over? Da fug!

David R., Monday, 30 April 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

I think yr confusing "SPECIAL GUEST APPEARANCE" with "RED SKIES DELIGHT," Huckster.

David R., Monday, 30 April 2007 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

might not be this issue, but it's coming (with Gen13 maybe? so gail-on-gail action, but still)

Dr. Superman, Monday, 30 April 2007 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

As for me...
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER - !!!!!!!!!OMG WILLOW'S STUCK IN SEASON SIX WARDROBE SUCKAGE!!!!!!!!!!
RUNAWAYS - Wherein Frank Castle kills the Runaways.
ASTONISHING X-MEN - Wherein Colossus kills a planet with one titanium hand tied behind his titanium back.
SHAZAM: THE MONSTER SOCIETY OF EVIL - Which will involve monsters.
SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE - 'Cuz the three-year old me and his obsession with SPIDER-MAN AND HIS FRIENDS is cheering on any possibility of Spider-Man once again kissing Firestar.

R Baez, Monday, 30 April 2007 19:31 (eighteen years ago)

oh yeah:
SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL: Fraction's involvement has stirred some interest in me w/r/t this. I'm boggled by the fact that I'm probably gonna buy a SPIDER-MAN story in continuity - I've intentionally deluded myself for many a year now that he's still stuck where Kraven buried him.

R Baez, Monday, 30 April 2007 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

Douglas, this is the best ship thread title ever.

WHEDON WEEK!!!

Buffy, Astonishing X-Men, Runaways, Captain America: Civil War tpb, 52 #52!!!, Teen Titans, SHOWCASE PRESENTS WAR THAT TIME FORGOT!!!!!!!!

Mr. Perpetua, Monday, 30 April 2007 19:52 (eighteen years ago)

By the way, I owe Richard because without his cheerleading for Spidey Loves MJ, I never would have bought the hardcover. I totally loved it!

Mr. Perpetua, Monday, 30 April 2007 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

YOU'RE WELCOME, PAL.

R Baez, Monday, 30 April 2007 19:55 (eighteen years ago)

There's a lot of things I like about it, but can I just say how much I appreciate how they made a strong effort to make Queens looks like Queens, especially in the subway scenes?

Mr. Perpetua, Monday, 30 April 2007 20:10 (eighteen years ago)

OCT060301 52 ANIMAL MAN ACTION FIGURE PI

o man
will this be any good?

also, Smithzam for my flatmate.

energy flash gordon, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 11:12 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, the Animal Man figure actually looks awesome, versus the Booster Gold one which looks like he just swallowed a goldfish.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

Amadeo, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 19:43 (eighteen years ago)

Not really a spoiler: 52 #52 is pretty great.

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

52 #52 is really great!!

It's incredible how they manage to wrap all the plot threads (even though I would have liked a coda to the Animal Man story line) and instill some sense of wonder and coolness again in the DCU. It's a good thing also that they managed to keep the Black Adam and Steel storylines to a minimun.

Amadeo, Thursday, 3 May 2007 02:24 (eighteen years ago)

argh
picked up my comix on my way to work, and now I have to sit here, YARDS AWAY from 52/52, and hope that no homeless dudes come by and spoil it for me before my lunch break

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 3 May 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

All you guys big-upping 52 are lying liars w/ singed chinos. I know this for a fact.

David R., Thursday, 3 May 2007 03:31 (eighteen years ago)

yah that shit was a mess

chaki, Thursday, 3 May 2007 04:44 (eighteen years ago)

they didn't have the Animal Man toy, just Isis and Batwoman and some other chick. they were $25 though so probably just as well.

energy flash gordon, Thursday, 3 May 2007 11:48 (eighteen years ago)

omg $25 is 52 backwards!

in other news, Superman wuz good again!

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 3 May 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

Is it Busiek / Pacheco Supes? The fill-ins have been fine wordwise, but the art (esp. last issue's Howell / Baretto debacle) has been teh blech.

David R., Thursday, 3 May 2007 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, Pacheco/Merino Returns! Howev, the art still gets a little dodgy in some spots, as if half the book was done lovingly, half was done under duress of last-minute changes due to Mr. Mind EATING KRYPTO.

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 3 May 2007 18:34 (eighteen years ago)

Buffy was good this week, and I was surprised!

J, Thursday, 3 May 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

Green Lantern (not that I'm reading it) is kinda cool. I think it's just the Acuna art, though, which is kinda breathtaking in a way that his covers never are.

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 3 May 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

Huk, don't lie.

David R., Thursday, 3 May 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

the fraction spidey was really SWEET and heartwarming with magnetic fields shoutout!

also both hulk books totally were kick ass.

chaki, Thursday, 3 May 2007 21:58 (eighteen years ago)

REALLY liked Hulk-Hulk!

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 3 May 2007 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

so who was the guy at the end of buffy, there? this comic is totally not casual fan-friendly

thomp, Friday, 4 May 2007 13:09 (eighteen years ago)

Mr. Anatomy Lesson? Remember what Willow did to Warren in Season 6?

Rock Hardy, Friday, 4 May 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

no, actually, and which one was warren again? was he one of those three nerds?

thomp, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, he was the main villain of season 6.

I agree that this series is catering to hardcore Buffy fans and not doing much of anything to remind us who certain characters are -- Andrew was dropped in without any reminder to let us know "oh right, Andrew," and both Amy and Warren were reintroduced in cliffhangers that were only effective if you were really up on the show. I guess it's fair enough, the people who'd want to read this would be hardcore fans anyway, but still, it'd be nice if every big surprise wasn't rooted in continuity.

Mr. Perpetua, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway, Warren was the misogynistic nerd who was (indirectly) responsible for the death of Tara. That pushed Willow over the edge, and when she went on a rampage, she skinned Warren with her magic.

Mr. Perpetua, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

Is anyone unfamiliar with Buffy going to be reading this?

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know -- it's not like the show would feel the need to boilerplate every character. It did take me a while to figure out who Andrew was, but that was more of an art problem.

Anal fan question: seeing as Willow burnt Warren to a crisp after skinning him, couldn't he just as likely come back as "normal Andrew" as opposed to "grotesque skinless Andrew"?

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

(I mean Warren)

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 4 May 2007 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, he was the main villain of season 6.

Funny you put it that way, I always think of the main villain that season as Dark Willow, with the 3 NERRRRRRRDs as just catalysts/irritations.

It did take me a while to figure out who Andrew was, but that was more of an art problem.

Jeanty's art is seriously ass. Is he the permanent artist or are they changing it up on an arc-by-arc basis?

I guess anal fan answer would be "yes, but where's the fun in that?"

Rock Hardy, Friday, 4 May 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

From what I understand, Jeanty is the main artist, and there will be fill-ins on other arcs.

If you want to think in terms of video game logic, "Dark Willow" is the Big Bad of season 6, but Warren is the primary villain for the majority of the season. He's all about impotent male rage and insidious misogyny -- we're supposed to think he's not a major threat until he goes an accidentally kills one of the main cast members.

Mr. Perpetua, Saturday, 5 May 2007 04:06 (eighteen years ago)

A COMMON RESPONSE, BUT:

My, that SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL certainly was something else.

R Baez, Monday, 7 May 2007 20:05 (eighteen years ago)

yah it was real good.

chaki, Monday, 7 May 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

Was I the only one that bought Showcase: War that time forgot?

REALLY hard going, every story is basically the same. The writing is solid enough Bob Kanigher and the art is pretty good Andru/Esposito fare, but you can only read about trapeze artists throwing grenades at pterodactyls som many times. Or submarines getting captured by giant prehistoric crabs.

I KNOW THIS MAKES IT SOUND LIKE THE BETS THING EVER, BUT IT ISN'T.

aldo, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 09:45 (eighteen years ago)

I'm two stories in and I don't know how much further I can make myself go. Why didn't I learn my lesson with Haunted Tank and Unknown Soldier?

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

You're in time. SAVE YOURSELF. Nobody will give you the bits of your life you spend reading it back. (I only have about 100 pages to go so I might as well see it through, but I started to struggle after about 50.)

aldo, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

I'm gonna start a Showcase vs. Essentials thread to say something

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)
