HE IS SAD BECAUSE HIS WIFE WAS MURDERED BY BRAIN FOOTPRINTS god

David R., Friday, 18 May 2007 01:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Don't you think it speaks volumes of DC's lunacy / stupidity that TINY FOOTPRINTS IN THE BRANE was forgotten so quickly to be replaced with PUNCHED THE UNIVERSE?.

I just realised we live in the Silver Age grim n gritty revival!!!.

chaki, Monday, 21 May 2007 05:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm trying to wrap my brain around the idea that G. Willow Wilson's first published comic is going to be, not the Vertigo graphic novel she's been working on for ages, but METAMORPHO/AQUAMAN.

yay

R Baez, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:08 (seventeen years ago) link

and they're calling it "All-Flash"

Dr. Superman, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:08 (seventeen years ago) link

which indicates oldface quotient

Dr. Superman, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:09 (seventeen years ago) link

yay of lesser intensity

R Baez, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:10 (seventeen years ago) link

and it's resuming the numbering of the Wally West Flash series???
WTF DC, though it's kinda nice to see them come this close to admitting they FUCKED UP BIGTIME ON FLASH.

Dr. Superman, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:12 (seventeen years ago) link

okay, wait. "All-Flash" will just be a special to launch the new/old "Flash" series.

Dr. Superman, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Damn Newsarama and their inability to write clear and concise news items.

Dr. Superman, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:14 (seventeen years ago) link

and damn me for repeating their incoherent mess before I had processed it! I feel like Nancy Grac3 up in here.

Dr. Superman, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:17 (seventeen years ago) link

WTF DC, though it's kinda nice to see them come this close to admitting they FUCKED UP BIGTIME ON FLASH.

They had their reasons - I imagine someone high up thought the TV guys could hook him up with Amanda Pays.

R Baez, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, cuz the TV Flash was such a ratings blockbuster??? (I don't know who Amanda Pays is, so I'm attacking selective parts of statement---NOW I'm GLEN BEK!)

Dr. Superman, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:22 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm actually pretty impressed by the way DC teased the Flash thing--"This is the story that will change EVERYTHING! IT BEGINS HERE!!--oh yeah: next week's issue is the final one, and those solicitations for the next few months? Red herrings."

Douglas, Friday, 15 June 2007 20:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Black Canary (hearts) Green Arrow???

Dr. Superman, Friday, 15 June 2007 23:31 (seventeen years ago) link

That image is really really good. It has no place in a sadface thread!.

Amadeo, Friday, 15 June 2007 23:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Yay to Waid on Flash!

I'm kinda Boo! on the likely return of Barry Allen, but if someone is going to make it good, it's Waid.

The Batman I know and love would never EVER do this.

Dr. Superman, Monday, 18 June 2007 21:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Didn't these used to be well done?
First he rips on the Bottled City cover for being "computerized" when it's obviously a photo of TOYS (which makes it GOOD), then he digs on the Green Lantern "homage" and claims that the hand on the Atom cover is "well drawn" (it ain't--that is, it isn't, y'know, accurate, which is, I think, what "well drawn" is supposed to fill in for).

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 15:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 19 June 2007 15:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Given that Moore's major work (& my only exposure to his particular talents) was, in hindsight, excessively punchable, then, yeah, I'm gonna wait until the pudding contains some proof before I go & sully my spoon on that stuff. Goofing on the lesbian thing is (I thought) obvious hyperbole, but his handling of romantic & friendly relationships in SiP (i.e. the very thing that drives the book he's taking over) left a little to be desired. Regardless, I'm not going to stick around once he comes on board, so if any of you suckers are game to give him a go, let me know how that turns out, plz.

David R., Tuesday, 3 July 2007 04:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Several people have pointed out that this image is based on "The Last Supper," and that the parallels apparently have symbolic value. Which means that about eighteen million times more thought and care has gone into that image than into the entirety of Countdown so far.

Douglas, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 07:01 (seventeen years ago) link

I guess the Scarlet Skier's fucked, then.

Chuck_Tatum, Wednesday, 4 July 2007 14:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Wait a minute, are they copping to not only writing to, but adjusting content to the whims of the Internet?
What kind of fucking railroad are they running?

Dr. Superman, Saturday, 14 July 2007 11:32 (seventeen years ago) link

David R. is OTM.
Mr. Perpetua is Mr. Save-An-Awful-Writer.

HI DERE, Saturday, 14 July 2007 13:25 (seventeen years ago) link

This doesn't really belong in the sadface thread, but Metal Men is probably going to be a very wonderful 15-18 issues.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago) link

You mean 8 issues, Huk - it's a mini-series.

David R., Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Meanwhile, UNCLE SAM gets free reign!?!?!? Can someone unearth some pictures of Didio giving Joe Quesada a massage or something?

(BTW, the last issue of Blue Beetle managed to have ties to Identity / Infinite / Weekly Crisis horseshit w/out coming off as punchable nonsense - girl raised by the Dibnys sons the nu-Eclipso inna magick stylee, & makes time w/ BB! Yay!)

David R., Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh. I thought it was an ongoing that wouldn't be ongoing for long.
xpost yeah, Sinestro Blue Beetle might be good even.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 15:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, fuck off.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 18:34 (seventeen years ago) link

yay heroes?

David R., Tuesday, 17 July 2007 18:57 (seventeen years ago) link

And when they need another house clearing exercise are they going to rename this series, in trade format, NOT SO QUITE FINAL CRISIS?.

Amadeo, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 19:04 (seventeen years ago) link

PENULTIMATE CRISIS!

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 19:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm still waiting for INFINITE CRISSI!

David R., Tuesday, 17 July 2007 19:07 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm just gonna keep reading my Parker-written Marvel comics. Y'all can keep your sadface.

Oh, and just because a lot of thought went into those COUNTDOWN preview images doesn't mean they're any damn good at all.

Matt M., Monday, 6 August 2007 16:02 (seventeen years ago) link

I've been reading up on this whole Infinite Crisis/Civil War background of current DC and Marvel universes and it seems like a pretty big mess to me.

The editors for both companies seem to be big on doing some killing. I hadn't even heard they had temporarily bumped off Spiderman. I had heard about Captain America (who I suppose is still dead for now) and Superman's temporary death.

Bumping off Blue Beetle, c'mon...that seems a bit harsh.

earlnash, Monday, 6 August 2007 23:21 (seventeen years ago) link

nu better mexi beetle though

chaki, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 01:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Spider-Man wasn't really "killed" though, it was just a part of a crappy story. He was "alive" again by the next week.

The Yellow Kid, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 07:26 (seventeen years ago) link

oh the text on those DitF covers was Sadface ahead of its sadtimes!

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 19:54 (seventeen years ago) link

"Middle East" should be uppercase, surely.

Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 20:52 (seventeen years ago) link

You should read the letter-pages following that storyline.

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 02:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I remember one lengthy one about Shi'ite and Sunni and the Ayatollah (who guest-starred in DitF!!! He hired Joker as Iran's ambassador to the UN--which resulted in Superman stopping Batman from exacting revenge from J-Man for killing R-boy, what with diplomatic immuno)

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 02:14 (seventeen years ago) link

OH MY

Dr. Superman, Friday, 10 August 2007 05:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Have just read first issue (director's cut!) of Immortal Iron Fist. Very good! Is sort of like Green Arrow if Green Arrow didn't suck!
Actually it's A LOT like the 1983 Green Arrow miniseries (the last time GA didn't suck for an extended period?) right down to the artwork. Aja's PLEASINGLY reminiscent of Trevor Von Eeden's stuff back then. Not totally, but there's that same sweet murk to it.

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 03:01 (seventeen years ago) link

nothing particularly revelatory in either DC or Marvel's Nov. Solicits, but we can discuss them anyway.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 21 August 2007 22:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Although Countdown: Arena seems like, um, Ultimate Fanwank.

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 17 October 2007 06:33 (seventeen years ago) link

wtf re: Chuck Dixon's triumphant return to DC? he's writing EVERYTHING not written by Gray & Palmiotti.
Am kinda bummed, since I rilly liked Adam Beechen's Robin stuff, and y'know BACKWARDS.

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 18 October 2007 08:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh man can they please rename this storyline GROPING IN THE DARK?

Mr. Perpetua, Monday, 29 October 2007 17:25 (seventeen years ago) link

"Death signature"???

Mr. Perpetua, Monday, 29 October 2007 17:26 (seventeen years ago) link

from LITG:

In June/July, DC are killing off Batman. Or rather, Bruce Wayne. Robin will inherit the Batman cowl. One of the Robins anyway. Tim Drake. Jason Todd. Or possibly Red Hood. Hey, maybe Jean-Paul Valley, it has been ten years since Azrael.

HOT DOG!

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 04:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Isn't this the third or fourth time this has been rumoured in recent years? I mean I'm not saying it won't happen, but...

aldo, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 11:22 (seventeen years ago) link

in that image from Death of the New Gods, i don't know why my eyes keep getting drawn to Vixen peeping on top of the fridge. It just looks even inherently sillier than a bunch of people standing around in tights in a kitchen.

The whole composition of the scene vaguely reminds me of something from a Richard Scarry book. It doesn't need dialogue. It needs vocabulary captions.

orb_q, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 13:51 (seventeen years ago) link
