For me:

ARMY@LOVE #3--yes indeedy
BATMAN #665--what did happen in that cave in Nanda Parbat? DEVIOUS MINDS WANT TO KNOW.
MIGHTY AVENGERS #3--yay Bendis! enjoying the Avengers franchise now as much as I ever have
ULTIMATES 2 #13--do you think this U2 on my chest stands for... no, that's not it.

Douglas, Monday, 14 May 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

Batman, Checkmate (although I haven't read the Outsiders side of things), Uncanny X-Men, X-Factor, X-Men First Class Special.

Garrett Martin, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

Bats and U2.

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

Fables, All-Star Batman (hopefully hilarious), last week's comics

Jordan, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

SHOWCASE PRESENTS THE FLASH VOL 1 TP - whoop
FALLEN SON DEATH OF CAPTAIN AMERICA CAPTAIN AMERICA - I rilly liked the Wolverine one (cuz I like Winter Soldier), but the Avengers one was CRAP, so who knows?

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #9

M.V., Monday, 14 May 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

HUK DON'T DO IT!

David R., Monday, 14 May 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

Fallen Son or Countdown?

Dr. Superman, Monday, 14 May 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

FALLEN SON OF COURSE

David R., Monday, 14 May 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

oh right, already forgot about Countdown. I have a coupon for a free copy of #50. Might as well give it a shot.

Garrett Martin, Monday, 14 May 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

I am very non-plussed by Countdown's gratuitous "52" logo-steal. Is a giant "37" really the best way to pull ver kids into comics?

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 14 May 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

I had a conversation a while back about All Star Batman & Robin that pretty much talked me out of buying it ever again. It's ridiculous and gross, but it's also deeply misogynistic and I don't want my money supporting that, you know?

What I will buy: Morrison Batman, Justice League of c'mon you guys the Legion are in it!, Countdown, Mighty Avengers, Ultimate X-Men, ULTIMATES 2!!!, Uncanny X-Men, and X-Factor.

Mr. Perpetua, Monday, 14 May 2007 18:42 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah. I'm finding JLA and JSA (like the two Avengers titles at Marvel) are both pretty readable at the moment, even if I sort of hate as lot of things about them. In a way, 52 made me think Geoff Johns is actually pretty good at the grand guignol-y kind of stuff. He just can't do characters.

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 14 May 2007 18:50 (eighteen years ago)

BPRD - Garden of Souls (WHERE IS THE LOVE FOR GUY DAVIS?!??!)
Army@Love
Batmorrison
Checkmate

Oilyrags, Monday, 14 May 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah, Coutdown.

Oilyrags, Monday, 14 May 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

I've a great deal of love for Guy Davis (picking up a SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATER trade, despite the presence of evil lesbian antagonists, due to him), but I'm picking up the trade on BPRD.

Meanwhile...
BATMAN - cuz who knows?
SHOWCASE PRESENTS FLASH - at the opposite end of the spectrum, almost a certainty.

R Baez, Monday, 14 May 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

This downsizing, it ain't helping so much:

BPRD GARDEN OF SOULS #3 (OF 5) -- hay Guy

BATMAN #665 -- I think JH Williams is drawing this!
CHECKMATE #14
COUNTDOWN 50
EX MACHINA #28 (MR)
FABLES #61 (MR)
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #9
PLAIN JANES -- whenever there is a new Big Two publishing initiative, I am there to support it for the 3 months it exists

MIGHTY AVENGERS #3 CWI -- RIP boobless Ultron
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #109 -- RIP Mark Bagley
ULTIMATE X-MEN #82
ULTIMATES 2 #13 -- RIP Bryan Hitch
UNCANNY X-MEN #486
X-FACTOR #19
X-MEN FIRST CLASS SPECIAL -- JEFF PARKER CLONE YO DELF

WARREN ELLIS BLACK GAS 2 #2 -- GEE THANKS WARREN
WASTELAND #9 (MR) (NOTE PRICE) -- I need to find all my back issues of this & give this a thorough reading-thru

David R., Monday, 14 May 2007 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

BATMAN #665 -- I think JH Williams is drawing this!

No, he's not.

R Baez, Monday, 14 May 2007 20:09 (eighteen years ago)

> (picking up a SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATER trade, despite the presence of evil lesbian antagonists, due to him)

It's not as bad as you might think, R.

The overarching theme of SMT was 'hate crimes' and in "The Vamp" storyline, there is indeed a lesbian murderer - who is taking revenge on the men who gang raped her and then used their position of privilege to evade prosecution. It's been ages since I read it, but as I recall, her character was moderately sympathetic. It's definitely pulpy material and borderline cliche, but I wouldn't call it exploitative at all.

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

I guess I'm getting the Army@Love. Keep your eyes peeled for recanting/bitching over at the Army@Love thread. Updates imminent!

Mordechai Shinefield, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 01:41 (eighteen years ago)

Also: Fables, obv. After the Cape, and X-Factor 19. Thin week. Sob.

Mordechai Shinefield, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 01:43 (eighteen years ago)

Oh god I'm getting ASSBATS. Nooooooooooooooooo.

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:05 (eighteen years ago)

I'm also getting the latest issue of Local, tho, so that eases the pain.

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:05 (eighteen years ago)

Or shd I say it soothes my LOVE CHUNKS.

David R., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 05:16 (eighteen years ago)

Ultimates 2 !!!!!!!
OMG!
Can it really be true?
Will it be in my hands soon?

Anyway after that's over. Is Iron Fist any good? I'm toying with the idea of getting that as a replacement title after Ultimates 2 finishes.

Stone Monkey, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 11:47 (eighteen years ago)

ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN THE BOY WONDER #5 - I THOUGHT 'ONE YEAR LATER' WAS A PLOT CONTINUITY THING, NOT DC'S PUBLISHING STRATEGY
AQUAMAN SWORD OF ATLANTIS #52 - Tad Williams is definitely trying to get some kind of Silver Age vibe going on. He may not quite be there yet, but I don't think it's far away.
BATMAN #665 - Grant fills some 52 holes.
CATWOMAN #67 - The last OYL hole with BIG FITES.
COUNTDOWN 50 - I might as well.
EX MACHINA #28 - This is solid without being spectacular, or even notable.
FABLES #61 - More Flycatcher.
FLASH THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE #12 - About to CHANGE FOREVER!!1!!!
SHOWCASE PRESENTS THE FLASH VOL 1 - Why am I convinced this is actually going to suck?
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #109 - This is kind of in a lull at the moment.
ULTIMATE X-MEN #82 - Ultimate Morlocks, people.
ULTIMATES 2 #13 - PART 7 OF 6. This tells you all you need to know.
X-FACTOR #19 - sort of passing me by just now, to be honest.

aldo, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 12:06 (eighteen years ago)

ARMY @ LOVE - I'm giving this one last try to be awesome instead of meh
BATMAN
COUNTDOWN - I'm not sure why, though
EX MACHINA
FABLES
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA - I can't help myself
ULTIMATES 2
WARREN ELLIS BLACK GAS 2 - I'm not sure why again. I liked Marvel Zombies a lot more!

J, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

Is Iron Fist any good?

I'd say so - the writers deliver, interestingly enough, thrillpower in a po-faced fashion (far more enjoyable than the phrase implies) while the art shifts from Aja (gritty and Lark-y with genuinely swell J.H. Williams-isms scattered throughout) to Foreman (bright, immediate, and mythic - appropriate for both pirate battles and meetings between gods), et al. ("et al." being the understatment of the day: John Severin, Sal Buscema, and Russ Heath each cameo with lovely pieces - you'd be astonished how well that big yellow collar fits these fellows, whose combined age probably surpasses 200). Plus issue four features a top-hatted gentleman emerging from a flaming airship, brandishing gunpower and threatening the mystical city of K'un Lun - I mentioned this moment in a previous SHIP thread, but it's a delight that doesn't lose any flavor.

R Baez, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 19:41 (eighteen years ago)

Ta v much. I had a look at the latest issue and it looked to be a whole heap of fun. But I'll probably end up waiting for the trade, as I don't like the idea of hunting down the back issues.

Stone Monkey, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

So... Assbats.

Dr. Superman, Sunday, 20 May 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not sure whether it was less or more bonkers than I expected. FRANK THINKS IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO COUNTER ACCUSATIONS OF MISOGYNY BY REINVENTING WONDER WOMAN AS A MISANDRIST.

aldo, Monday, 21 May 2007 06:44 (eighteen years ago)

I'm just going to assume ASSBATS is meant to be funny -- it is meant to be funny, right? - because I'd have a terrible headache if it wasn't.

Chuck_Tatum, Monday, 21 May 2007 07:25 (eighteen years ago)

ASSBATS: Just awful. If it's meant to be funny, it's not. If it's meant to be serious, it's not. It's just shit.

James Morrison, Monday, 21 May 2007 23:45 (eighteen years ago)

http://community.livejournal.com/seebelow/293529.html

There's a brief defense of assbats here, but I find it unconvincing. And I find the comic really awful.

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 13:37 (eighteen years ago)

So far I've found it to be awful in a pretty hilarious way. I really couldn't say if it's intentional or not.

Jordan, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 14:48 (eighteen years ago)

I don't see how it can't be intentional. Whether or not it the hilarity the WTF-HAHA-factor is proportional to Miller's intent is another question.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 22 May 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

ATTN EWING BROS

BERNARD THE POET IS IN THE X-MEN: FIRST CLASS SPECIAL

PASS IT ON

David R., Friday, 25 May 2007 01:27 (eighteen years ago)

I meant, of course, I don't see how it can't NOT be intentional

Dr. Superman, Friday, 25 May 2007 02:11 (eighteen years ago)

No, I don't think you do...

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 25 May 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

OTM. I don't know what I'm doing anymore.

Dr. Superman, Saturday, 26 May 2007 03:36 (eighteen years ago)

Just like Frank Miller.

Leee, Saturday, 26 May 2007 05:23 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, so you've read my testoro-noir treatment for Katzenjammer Kids?

Dr. Superman, Saturday, 26 May 2007 06:38 (eighteen years ago)

i can't believe anyone is still reading ASBatRob
