seeking input from ya'll what have comic book blogs or read them…

I am considering starting one, which would find me detailing and explaining my ongoing project wherein every major and semi-major Marvel character is paired up with a corresponding equivalent DC character…

like:

Superman = Thor
Spider man = Blue Beetle
Doom Patrol = Fantastic Four
Teen Titans = X-men

My understanding of the comic book blogosphere is tres limited…do y'all think that, like, anyone would be interested in such a super-nerdy pursuit?

BTW, If Herr Wolk reads this: how is that $75 Action Heroes Ditko fest I am coveting but cannot currently afford?

Hmm, who could be an appropriate DC equivalent to Man-Thing?

(I take it Daredevil=Batman)

actually, no.

Superman=Thor is an interesting one because early on in his strip Thor does take a Superman-style role, but never ever is it suggested that CALLING ON A PAGAN GOD is in any way strange or wrong. Thor is just accepted as the natural order of things - essentially, as soon as he turns up, the entirety of Earth-616 starts worshipping Odin and the Norse pantheon as a matter of course.

Superman, needless to say, doesn't cause that kind of theological kerfuffle.

I'd totally read that blug.

umm…huh? I seem to recall numerous instances in the early Journey Into Mystery/Mighty Thor series of folks in the street saying shit like "wow, I didn't think Thor was real, but there he is, fukking the Grey Gargoyle's shit up" and somesuch. Granted, they'd say that about all the heroes…

but I think you are kidding about the worship business, VF? I ain't never seen that…

Punisher=Batman? Who the heck is Batman?

chap, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

I'm kidding slightly, but not that much. There's more than one episode where a missile runs amuck and the first reaction is to put a call out to Mighty Thor. Which is exactly like DC's similar response when it comes to Superman. Except this is... theologically stickier. Remember those back-up strips where Kirby cheerfully illustrated the origin of the Marvel Universe Earth as being to do with the world-ash and Bram father of Odin? The Christian God is completely absent, whereas in DC he's all over the place like a rash.

Also - Superman is all about strict pseudoscience that might as well be magic, but Thor operates using symbolic logic and rules dictated by Odin - ACTUAL magic.

I too would be an interested party for this blurg. I mean, who is Marvel's Hawk & Dove? (Iron Fist & Power Man?)

Leee, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 03:32 (eighteen years ago)

I think it'd be Cloak & Dagger.

Action Heroes Ditkofest = really fun in places (was glad to see the never-published issue that only ever appeared in Charlton Bullseye, and the Toth Question story), but marred by dull Captain Atom stories and hideous machine lettering.

DC's X-Men is most certainly the Doom Patrol, right down to the shady older leader in the wheelchair!

Mr. Perpetua, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

And DC's FF is obvs Challengers of the Unknown.

Mr. Perpetua, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

There's even a Challengers story in the Showcase vol that pretty much outlines the FF origin (except only one Challenger gets powers, I think it's Rocky).

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 17:24 (eighteen years ago)

And in fact, I would say that after reading the Kirby-written Challengers stuff, that all those guys who say that Stan Lee was just riding on the coattails of his (awesome) artists should shut the fuck up.

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

Spider-Man/Blue Beetle is kinda Challengers/FF in reverse.
