I was pretty sure there was a thread for this, but there ain't! So, w/ Eric Powell getting some "mainstream" exposure thanks to his upcoming Bizarro Action Comics arc, and the return of The Goon regular series AND a Goon graphic novel (in August or September), let's gush!

Oh right! I've seen that on the shelf before and skipped it because it wasn't actually Eddie C.

I'm hoping that the Satan's Sodomy Baby one-shot is just as super fun as everything else goon. EP also wrote a 4-issue mini for Dark Horse - Billy the Kid's Old-Timey Oddities. Not as super fun as his Goon work (& there is no Goon to be had), but it's still a pretty good read, & Kyle Hotz's art is pretty swell.
PS - PRETTY PRETTY PRETTY

And now, for your reading pleasure, a semi-accurate summary of the FOR MATURE READER'S ONLY (lol) Satan's Sodomy Baby one-shot:
- hillbilly dude gets high off turpentine fumes, starts sodomizing a pig that turns into THE DEVIL & flips the script - after sharing his story of buttrape w/ his hillbilly brother, a lil red devil (with a rather sizable penis - uncircumsized, of course) pops out of the hillbilly's buttocks (w/ much brown splort to be had) - Goon & his Art Carney-esque sidekick run into hillbilly folk trying to kill cute wittle Satan baby - Goon & buddy talk to local priest, who say the way to get rid of the Satan baby is to perform an abortion (which, of course, requires putting the Satan baby back into the hillbilly's bum) - Goon & buddy run off to prep for exorcism / abortion, leaving Satanbaby w/ priest (and you know where that goes) - Goon & buddy return w/ hillbilly - priest is now wearing a black speedo & has suction-cup arrows over his nipples; Satan baby's penis is now about 3 feet long - Goon takes engorged Satanbaby, stuffs him back into hillbilly's butt - Buddy takes Gallagher-esque sledge hammer, whacks Satanbaby back into place (while Satanbaby quotes The Exorcist & other such things) - Satanbaby is whack-a-moled back into place, brown ooze splorts everywhere, story ends - next 2 pages = "service announcement" about young men falling prey to rampant homosexual peer pressure (which ends w/ the young man finally subcumming to peer pressure & topping Mr. T) - final 2 pages = Goon's buddy complaining of the off-kilter penis: breast ratio, & gratuitously fondling / licking / canoodling w/ ample naked female bosom (w/ the book's final panel being a self-portrait of the artist, inna inbred unwashed fashion, drooling slackjawed over his drawing board, pleased with his awesome boob-sketching talent)
You may now roll your eyes & pass judgement.

Complete and utter Bill Wray rip-off y/n?

Your search for "eric powell bill wray" or "bill wray the goon" returns fuck all.

Y'know, I used to really love THE GOON. Now I just kinda like it. Maybe it's the loss of the heavy black inks, maybe it's the longform jokes that just really don't end up being that funny, maybe I'm just old and cranky, but I'm not nearly as wowed by it as I used to be. David's summation kinda doesn't make me want to go out of my way to get back into it, either.

I was given the first three in a collected volume. I liked them I have to say. I don't know if I'd chase down more especially not after that summary above!

Sorry to inadvertently mislead, but the SSB issue was a one-off thing - I'm not sure if it was supposed to be part of the (bi)monthly series & was split off becasue of the story's content, or was simply designed from the get-go to be what it was. The regular series is still "gross", but in a shlocky B-movie way, not in an NC17 fashion. Tho I agree w/ Matt re: the series' greatness dimming a smidge of late.

Thoughts? For some reason I always imagined Franky sounding a bit more Pesci, but this will definitely do.

David Fincher is apparently involved with this in some capacity?

Yeah, producing I think. The animation is from the studio that did this thing:

Blur. Yeah, I actually know someone who works for the studio. Seems like an appropriate matching.
