In my bid to start yet another thread wherein no one will respond:
Last week, IFC (that's the Independant Film Channel for all you non-cablians / Canadians) showed three Brazilian films directed by & starring José Mojica Marins as, if you haven't figured it out, COFFIN JOE. (His actual name is "Zé do Caixão," but I guess it's COFFIN JOE en Anglais.)
COFFIN JOE is this top-hatted cape-wearing undertaker that doesn't cut his fingernails. He likes to harass townsfolk with polemics about God non-existance, & is jonesing to find some perfect comely lass to father the perfect child. He confronts the townsfolk at least 10 times during each film, & whenever someone steps up to take him down, the following happens:
- close up of his eeeevil eyes
- his eyes turn BLOODSHOT OH NOES
- he beats the shit out of / burns / stabs / defenestrates the town's strongman, then paraphrases Nietschze as the frightened townfolk cower beneath his evil gaze
The films are awkward as hell - part Universal Horror, part Ed Wood, part Reefer Madness - but there's plenty to appreciate (depending on your tolerance for this sort of schlock), & if Wikipedia's any sort of reliable on this topic, the films were wildly popular in their home country & spawned a COMIC SERIES. There are actually panels of the comic shown during the title sequence of his 3rd flick.
My question: WHERE IS THIS STUFF? HAVE YOU SEEN IT?

The DVD notes of the first film contained a funny book Coffin Joe adventure, if I recall correctly ('twas lent to me by a pal a few years back). I can't recall whether Joe figured in the story or whether he played a role similar to the Cryptkeeper...
ALSO - IF YOU'VE READ JAIME HERNANDEZ' "WIGWAM BAM" (CUZ EVERY TOPIC LEADS BACK TO L & R): You'll see Jaime's rendition of good ol' Coffin Joe while Hopey's flipping through channels.

He loved it! (i think--maybe he was just trying to seem cool) I liked it a lot myself. Very INSANE. It's like an awful Wizard of Oz where everything's black and white, and then he goes to Hell and it's GO GO TECHNICOLOR!
