Army at Love 6
Checkmate 17
Captain America 29

DP7 Classics?
How to Draw Dynamic Comic Books?

Oilyrags, Monday, 13 August 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

AQUAMAN SWORD OF ATLANTIS #55 - IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT THIS IS BEING CANCELLED.
BRAVE AND THE BOLD #6 - featuring "half the DCU".
CATWOMAN #70 - OH NOES an Amazons Attack tie-in.
FLASH #231 - this is being kept really quiet by DC, unsure what the big deal is beyond Wally being back.
GRIFTER MIDNIGHTER #6 - oh well, it's the last one.
HELLBLAZER #235 - the first part of this was pretty good, Andy Diggle is hitting his stride here.
TERROR INC #1 - this is a MAX revival of some minor 70s character who is decomposing and needs body parts to stay alive. David Laphma writing, Cable & Deadpool guy on pencils. If my LCS get it, I'll buy it.
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #112 - I could get upset about Bendis' recent scripting, but STUART IMMONEN, PEOPLE.

Quite a light week, so I'll pick up the Minx title as well if Diamond have decided to ship them to Britain yet.

aldo, Monday, 13 August 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

expecticons:

BOOSTER GOLD #1 - From the minds that brung you Infinite Crisis and Zero Hour!
BRAVE AND THE BOLD #6 - OH YEAH
FLASH #231 - Can't resist the Waid.
ROBIN #165 - fun
KILLING GIRL #1 (OF 5) - ESPINOZA!
CAPTAIN AMERICA #29 - still dead

Dr. Superman, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

Booster Gold, Brave and the Bold, Checkmate, The Programme, Captain America, Super Villain Team-Up: MODOK's 11.

I might pick up Flash. I enjoyed that special last month, although that last page was ugly as hell, and I think that guy is the new regular artist.

Garrett Martin, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

Missed MODOK's 11 - yeah, I'll keep going with that thing, too.

Oilyrags, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Nothing! Just last week's stuff.

Jordan, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

So Captain America is still coming out, even though he is dead? Is someone else wearing the uniform or are they doing WWII stories?

earlnash, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:37 (eighteen years ago)

So Superman is still coming out, even though he is dead? Is someone else wearing the uniform or are they doing racket-busting stories?

energy flash gordon, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

Light week for me--

BOOSTER GOLD #1--because of its title
BRAVE AND THE BOLD #6--this issue, everybody gets drawn by George Pèrez!
CAPTAIN AMERICA #29--yeah, this is neat

Douglas, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 02:33 (eighteen years ago)

Okay all of you MUST buy that DP7 book.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 03:26 (eighteen years ago)

What extras does the DP7 Classics have? For a 32 issue run, DP7 Classics seems like The Best of the Gin Blossoms. (not a complaint, mind you - loved that series)

Has newuniversal brought DP7 or Psi-Force into the series yet?

scampering alpaca, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 04:45 (eighteen years ago)

Couldn't you buy the entire DP7 series for less than that trade?

Garrett Martin, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 13:11 (eighteen years ago)

BOOSTER GOLD #1 -- Jurgens and Johns, together at last!
BRAVE AND THE BOLD #6 -- Not a bad issue so far.
FLASH #231 -- The art looks dire, but yay Waid.

Chuck_Tatum, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

BRAVE AND THE BOLD #6 - "Dude!" and so forth.
AND ANY BACK ISSUES THEY'VE GOT OF HELLBOY: DARKNESS CALLS BECAUSE I JUST DISCOVERED HELLBOY (YEAH, I WAS OUT OF THE MAINSTREAM LOOP FOR MOST OF THE NINETIES AND EARLY MILLENIUM) AND NEED MY ADDICTION FED.

R Baez, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

Couldn't you buy the entire DP7 series for less than that trade?

YEAH IF YOU CAN FIND IT

So far Newuniversal has seen:

Nightmask
Star Brand
Justice
Spitfire
Proudhawk

If DP7 analogues show up, I will probably die.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

Booster Gold - flaming bag of turd on my coffee table. There is so much I WANT to like about it, but there's the GIANT KNOWING WINK throughout (instead of just at the end, like Supes used to do) and ABSOLUTE ALL STAR ULTIMATE interior monologue OVERKILL.

Dr. Superman, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

Ha, I thought it was kind of fun. Although I was drunk when I read it.

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 16 August 2007 03:11 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe I am being too hard on the Johnsisms. Maybe this is his chance to do NOT-IMPORTANT storytelling that is well-crafted and fun, like he did early in his Flash run.

Flash is fun. Definitely The IncrediFlashes. Acuna's art has its moments and he does a nice speed effect. But photorealism (photoshopism?) is a bad fit for the Flash.

Black Canary was pretty good. A fairly decent miniseries, with Green Arrow in an excellent turn as supporting player. However, the art turns to complete ass for the last 5 or 6 pages. WHAT GIVES? It looks like "new look" Betty & Veronica.

Dr. Superman, Thursday, 16 August 2007 04:10 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, Acuna's art is really hit-or-miss. His facial expressions are either surprisingly impressive or ridiculously awkward and ugly. Still, not as awful as I expected, after the laughable last page of that ALL FLASH thing.

Garrett Martin, Thursday, 16 August 2007 11:08 (eighteen years ago)

I was pretty happy with Acuna's art! I wouldn't really call what he does photorealism at all! It's very stylized, very interested in giving you a feeling from the colors. It's not dead-stiff Alex Ross stuff in the least.

Mr. Perpetua, Thursday, 16 August 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

I think Acuna and Renato Guedes are both a step in the right direction for DC -- ie, art that is attractive and fresh and doesn't make me wish that I could read the comics without having to look at the art.

Mr. Perpetua, Thursday, 16 August 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, the art wasn't bad, but I'm just not sure whether it was suited to the material. The Kerschl stuff from the last issue seemed so right.

B&B was a bit of a WTF ending, but hey, it's all about the journey, so never mind.

Re: Booster, I assume jokes about "teh awesome" are a bit disco dad, but I was still amused. I think I'm reaching my own disco dad phase anyway.

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 16 August 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

CapAm is just, like, I dunno, so brilliantly paced. I don't want it to come to a head, I'm having so much fun watching all the players circle each other.
B&B was a delight. Not quite as great as the first chapters, but the surprise guest stars made me happy.

Dr. Superman, Friday, 17 August 2007 02:10 (eighteen years ago)

I know it came out a week or two ago, but Spider-Man's beatdown on Kingpin was actually pretty intense. Too much dialogue, though.

Rock Hardy, Friday, 17 August 2007 02:48 (eighteen years ago)

Too much dialogue, though.

Understatement of the year. It's about 15 pages of Claremontian excess that could be reduced to: "I'm gonna kill you because you fucked up my life." "No, wait, I'm not." "No, I won't, but I will, so watch it." JMS cannot leave soon enough.

David R., Friday, 17 August 2007 03:20 (eighteen years ago)

B&B was very confusing... I have a feeling the plot actually made sense, but it was really in need of a recap...

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 17 August 2007 03:37 (eighteen years ago)

No recaps for you! Buy the trade!

Rock Hardy, Friday, 17 August 2007 04:11 (eighteen years ago)

Killing Girl was, um, something. I kinda admire getting Espinosa to do an ersatz noir piece, since his style is very much not what you'd expect for noir, or anything urban actually.

Dr. Superman, Friday, 17 August 2007 05:57 (eighteen years ago)

God I'd forgotten how much I loved DP7.

HI DERE, Friday, 17 August 2007 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

That's weird. You never let US forget!

Oilyrags, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:54 (eighteen years ago)

Was this the first Waid Flash? I have never read Flash regularly before, but I like Waid in general. I ALMOST picked it up at the store today. Also, I stopped reading captain america right after he died but i think that was a mistake.

ian, Sunday, 19 August 2007 22:47 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, this was the first Waid Flash, if you don't count the All Flash special, or all those issues of Flash he wrote in the 90s.

Mr. Perpetua, Monday, 20 August 2007 00:20 (eighteen years ago)

Cap Am has only gotten better w/o the titular character (who was rarely that central before he died anyhow)
