Marvel vs DC: Pop tunes

OK, people argue constantly whether Marvel or DC have the better characters, better stories, better continuity. Whatever. It seems to me they are going about it the wrong way. Surely the best way of finally settling the Marvel vs DC debate is vvia the simple method of pop music.

Basically are there more better pop songs written about Marvel characters or DC characters? That'll sort it.

One way or another, this should be the answer to the question.

The best parts are where the camera pulls back to show the first couple rows, which are completely empty.

As opposed to the rest of the venue...?

It strikes me that the obvious answer to this question is Superman, who appears to have popped up in quiet a few songs. Then however someone mentioned Angel. Now not ever song that has the word Angel in it is about
the X-Men character, but it could be argued that they are.

If you include X-Men code names suddenly the balance may tip to Marvel.

No it can't be.

Willie Nelson - "Oh no, Warren Worthington III! You need more altitude to escape from Blockbuster! Hey, that gives me an idea for a song..."

Alan, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:52 (seventeen years ago)

odd thing is i was musing about doing a "comics set" for poptimism the other day. before i realised it would be rubbish. swamp thing was all that was left from that line of thought, natch, :-)

Well of course that is what actually started the conversation.

How does Vertigo do? (If we ignore the song by U2). Well Enter Sandman / Mr Sandman er er er.

Pete, Monday, 3 September 2007 15:03 (seventeen years ago)

Well, DC has a Sandman either way!

Black Sabbath were not writing about Tony Stark. Come on now!

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 09:19 (seventeen years ago)

Black Sabbath were not writing about Tony Stark. Come on now!

I thought the idea was that they were!

For Marvel:

"Magneto & Titanium Man" by Paul McCartney & Wings (also features the Crimson Dynamo)
"In The Garage" by Weezer ("I've got Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler too")
"R.E.C. Room" by Inspectah Deck talks about "Spider-Man, alias Peter Parker"
MF Doom's career collectively ought to be considered a Marvel allusion...

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 9 September 2007 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

Black Sabbath were SO writing about Tony Stark. I just heard it in the trailer for the movie.

Career of Judge Dread/ Dredd?

Pete, Monday, 10 September 2007 14:59 (seventeen years ago)

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I could have sworn Ted Hughes was the inspiration for Da Sabs.

Oilyrags, Monday, 10 September 2007 15:05 (seventeen years ago)

Well, how about Ghostface Killah then?

Dr. Superman, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 05:42 (seventeen years ago)

mostly accidental originally - isn't the story that he came up with the alias Tony Starks and then Meth tipped him off to the near-namesake?

energy flash gordon, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 08:57 (seventeen years ago)
